Engagement With Air Quality Information: Stated Versus Revealed Preferences
Air pollution has a significant impact on health but is often invisible to the naked eye. Real-time air quality information can help people take action to protect their health. However, little is known on how to most effectively frame air quality information to promote public health. We conducted a field experiment to study people’s engagement with real-time air quality information provided through a smartphone application (app). We tested 12 different messaging strategies on both intent to engage with air quality information (through a survey), and actual engagement with air quality information tracked through the app in response to the messaging strategies. Our results, based on 835 survey respondents and 2,740 app users, show that intent to engage and actual engagement differ. Overall, users’ demographics were the most important predictor of engagement with messages. This research demonstrates the significance of testing messaging strategies through field experiments rather than through surveys, and the importance of targeted messages

Management Support System Effectiveness: Further Empirical Evidence
Modern research has engendered frameworks, such as the management support system (MSS), that are designed to provide comprehensive and integrated support for the decision making process. While one recent study has empirically measured the effects of these frameworks on decision making, there have been few, if any, corroborating or deprecating investigations. This article offers further empirical evidence on MSS effectiveness. The paper begins with a brief overview of the previous research. Next, it assesses the influences of the MSS on the process and outcomes of business policy decision making. The paper also examines the implications of the analyses for information systems research and management practice

How organizational performance influences managerial search? - Towards 'informating search' theory
Although we expect managers to use the capabilities of business analytics systems to search for solutions and improve firm performance, we do not have a good understanding of the factors that motivate managers to undertake such search. Drawing on attribution and control theories, we propose a theory that explicates the performance conditions under which managers undertake search activities. Specifically, we theorize that managers are motivated to search for knowledge when both, operational performance and overall organizational performance, are declining. Further, we propose that managers' search response to sustained organizational performance failure is faster (low search latency) when the magnitude of sustained failure is larger. We tested our hypotheses with longitudinal data collected monthly over a period of four years from seven hospitals. Distributed lag model analysis of the data supports our hypotheses. We conclude with implications for research and practice, and plans for future research
PZT thick films by diol chemical solution deposition
Process optimization and properties of lead zirconate titanate (PZT) films for piezoelectric micromachined ultrasonic transducers (pMUTs) for scanning probe devices will be presented. The goal of the work was a replacement of the tetragenic and mutagenic solvent and a decrease of time-consuming PZT 2-methoxy ethanol (2MOE) route. An alternative diol-based solution synthesis process was developed and "Design Of Experiment” (DOE) was used to achieve processing optimization for thick and crack free films. Tight parameter control allowed to develop a highly reproducible PZT diol process. The crystallization behaviour of crack-free PbZr0.53Ti0.47O3 films (1-5μm) with oriented perovskite structure was examined by X-ray diffraction and surface analysis using scanning electron microscopy. Piezoelectric and dielectric properties were examined. The effective transverse piezoelectric coefficient e 31,f of sol-gel processed films was investigated for 4μm thick layers. Best properties were achieved with {1 0 0}-textured films, where a remanent e 31,f value of −7.3C/m2 was measured for 4.1μm thick film
New normality axioms and decompositions of normality
Generalizations of normality, called (weakly) (functionally) θ-normal spaces, are introduced and studied. This leads to decompositions of normality. It turns out that every paracompact space is θ-normal. Moreover, every Lindelof space as well as every almost compact space is weakly θ-normal. Preservation of θ-normality and its variants under mappings is studied. This in turn strengthens several known results pertaining to normality
