Influence of imipramine on the duration of immobility in chronic forced-swim-stressed rats.

We studied the influence of imipramine on the duration of immobility in chronic forced-swim-stressed rats. Both single and chronic administration of imipramine potently shortened immobility in naive rats during forced-swim testing. However, chronic, 14-day forced-swim stress testing blocked the immobility-decreasing effect induced by a single administration of imipramine. When imipramine was administered for 14 days concurrently with forced-swim stress testing, immobility was shortened significantly. From the viewpoint of imipramine's effect, these findings suggest that chronic forced-swim stress testing in rats may be an effective animal model for depression.</p

Pleomorphic adenoma presenting with conductive hearing loss in the ear canal: a case report and review of the literature

INTRODUCTION: Pleomorphic adenoma accounts for 65 percent of all salivary gland tumors. It has been identified in several anatomical regions, but pleomorphic adenoma arising in the ear canal, first described in 1951, is extremely rare. CASE PRESENTATION: A 40-year-old Japanese man’s left ear canal was obstructed by a pleomorphic adenoma that caused mild conductive hearing loss. The tumor was resected and he remains disease-free two years after surgery. CONCLUSIONS: Pleomorphic adenoma usually arises from a major and minor salivary gland, but pleomorphic adenoma of the ear canal is derived from the ceruminous gland. We discuss the present case and 37 other case reports in our effort to clarify the clinical features and the course of pleomorphic adenoma in the ear canal

Synthesis of 11,12-leukotriene A4, 11S,12S-oxido-5Z,7E,9E,14Z-eicosatetraenoic acid, a novel leukotriene of the 12-lipoxy genase pathway

AbstractA simple and efficient method for preparing 11,12-leukotriene A4 has been established by the stereospecific biomimetic route from arachidonic acid. 12S-Hydroperoxy-5Z,8Z,10E,14Z-eicosatetraenoic acid was synthesized using a partially purified 12-lipoxygenase of porcine leukocytes. The methyl ester of the compound was then chemically converted to two labile epoxides with a conjugated triene structure. These compounds were identified by proton NMR and mass spectrometry to be 11S,12S-oxido-5Z,7E,9E,14Z-eicosatetraenoic acid (11,12-leukotriene A4) and its geometric isomer

Expected Reconstruction Error of Arrival Direction in Observation by Water Cerenkov Detector

[Abstract] Reconstruction error of emitted direction of electrons observed in water cerenkov detector is estimated assuming gaussian approximation for multiple scattering process and exponential decrease with increasing mean square angle for detecting efficiency of cerenkov photon. After correcting geometrical limitation by Mott formula we got reasonable result explaining experimental data of wide energy range. Similar estimation by Kamioka group seems unable to explain those data because of inadequate cut of large angle scattering used in EGS simulation code
