Transonic separated flow predictions based on a mathematically simple, nonequilibrium turbulence closure model
A mathematically simple, turbulence closure model designed to treat transonic airfoil flows even with massive separation is described. Numerical solutions of the Reynolds-averaged, Navier-Stokes equations obtained with this closure model are shown to agree well with experiments over a broad range of test conditions

Industry-Science Connections in Agriculture: Do public science collaborations and knowledge flows contribute to firm-level agricultural research productivity?
Prior research identifies a direct positive link between the stock of public scientific knowledge and agricultural productivity; however, an indirect contribution to agricultural productivity is also possible when this stock facilitates private sector invention. This study examines how “connectedness” between the stock of public scientific knowledge and private firms influences firm-level research productivity. Bibliographic information identifies the nature and degree to which firms use public agricultural science through citations and collaborations on scientific papers. Separated transonic airfoil flow calculations with a nonequilibrium turbulence model
Navier-Stokes transonic airfoil calculations based on a recently developed nonequilibrium, turbulence closure model are presented for a supercritical airfoil section at transonic cruise conditions and for a conventional airfoil section at shock-induced stall conditions. Comparisons with experimental data are presented which show that this nonequilibrium closure model performs significantly better than the popular Baldwin-Lomax and Cebeci-Smith equilibrium algebraic models when there is boundary-layer separation that results from the inviscid-viscous interactions
Design and development of a six degree of freedom hand controller
The design objectives of a six degree of freedom manual controller are discussed with emphasis on a space environment. Details covered include problems associated with a zero-g environment, the need to accommodate both 'shirt sleeve' and space suited astronauts, the combination of both manipulator operation and spacecraft flight control in a single device, and to accommodate restraints in space. A variable configuration device designed as a development tool in which rotational axes can be moved relative to one another, is described and its limitations discussed. Two additional devices were developed for concept testing. Each device combines the need for good quality with its ability achieve a wide range of adjustments
Statistical Inference for Partially Observed Markov Processes via the R Package pomp
Partially observed Markov process (POMP) models, also known as hidden Markov
models or state space models, are ubiquitous tools for time series analysis.
The R package pomp provides a very flexible framework for Monte Carlo
statistical investigations using nonlinear, non-Gaussian POMP models. A range
of modern statistical methods for POMP models have been implemented in this
framework including sequential Monte Carlo, iterated filtering, particle Markov
chain Monte Carlo, approximate Bayesian computation, maximum synthetic
likelihood estimation, nonlinear forecasting, and trajectory matching. In this
paper, we demonstrate the application of these methodologies using some simple
toy problems. We also illustrate the specification of more complex POMP models,
using a nonlinear epidemiological model with a discrete population,
seasonality, and extra-demographic stochasticity. We discuss the specification
of user-defined models and the development of additional methods within the

A Firm Upper Limit to the Radius of the Neutron Star in SAX J1808.4-3658
We show that observations of X-ray pulsing from SAX J1808.4-3658 place a firm
upper limit of 13.8 m^{1/3} km on the radius of the neutron star, where m is
its mass in solar units. The limit is independent of distance or assumptions
about the magnetospheric geometry, and could be significantly tightened by
observations of the pulsations in the near future. We discuss the implications
