We will compare the landscape and customs that were the characteristic of each post town during the Edo period in the past with those of the present, and consider the factors behind the changes by Hiroshige Utagawa\u27s "Toukaidou 53 Stations". We completed bibliographic survey and a field survey to analyze the landscape and customs that were characteristic of each post town during the Edo period in the past compared with those of the present, and considered the factors behind the changes. The characteristics that appear in Ukiyo-e, old tales, and legends are valued and easily remain. There are many characteristics that remain in rural areas and residential areas where development is difficult. However, in a big city or an industrial area, there are few characteristics that remain because it is in the commercial and industrial areas with national roads that have changed greatly between the past and the present

Study on Students\u27 GPA in Open-space on Campus : A case of Kansai University

    Get PDF
The university campus has provided a wide range of spaces for learning and activity to ensure that students receive an education of the highest quality. The open space on campus is usually used for extracurricular learning, rest, and places that promote communication among students. Because the location and size of the open space are different and there are other differences in the spaces, the attributes of the students who are using the space may also be different. Thus, grade point average (GPA) was used as the measurement of students\u27 attributes in this study. The relationship between the open space and students\u27 GPA is as follows: 1) GPA in the central part of the campus was found to be higher than that of the surrounding areas and the students\u27 GPA tended to decrease gradually from the center to the periphery; 2) GPA in the smoking area and the open spaces containing a smoking area was lower; and 3) In areas where students from all faculties gathered, the students\u27 GPA was higher, while in areas where students from specific faculties gathered, the students\u27 was lower

LIVING ENVIRONMENT NEEDS OF THE ELDERLY IN WELFARE FACILITIES BASED ON PAST RESIDENTIAL EXPERIENCE

    Get PDF
As of October 1st, 2016, Japan\u27s total population was 126.93 million. The aging rate currently exceeds 27%, and is expected to reach 38.4% in 2065. The elderly population is growing bigger, and it is therefore becoming increasingly important to create a comfortable living environment for the elderly. We conducted a field survey and an interview survey of 15 elderly individuals living at five welfare facilities. We created floor plans of the bedrooms that they had lived in, are currently living in, and want to live in in the future. We analyzed the results of the field survey and the interview survey in order to understand what study participants wanted in their bedroom and why. The results of this research will assist in the creation of more comfortable living environments for the elderly

Children\u27s Living Space: A Case Study in Gulou District, Nanjing, China

The school district system, which compels children to attend primary and secondary schools based on their place of residence, was implemented in 19 major cities across China in 2014. This has resulted in Chinese parents who are focused on the education of their children making housing purchases that enable their children to access the school of their choice. Through a field investigation and interview survey of 19 households in Gulou District, Nanjing, China, this study clarifies the preferred conditions of the parental purchase of commercial housing in a school district as well as children\u27s room planning. The utilization of the house by children is also investigated and analyzed

DIFFERENCES IN IMPRESSION EVALUATIONS BETWEEN PHOTOGRAPHIC AND ACTUAL CAFÉ FACADES : FOCUSED ON EASE OF ENTERING CAFÉ

    Get PDF
Café facades include various elements, such as shape, material, and composition, and the combination of these elements influence visitor impressions. One of the most important requirements in café planning is that the façade appears approachable and attractive. The importance of "ease of entering" remains unclear, however. Photographs of cafés are shown on websites and in magazines, and these photographs sometimes give readers different impressions than visiting the actual cafés. Some visitors are disappointed at the gap between the impression they got from the photograph and that of the actual café façade. This arises because much more information about the actual atmosphere can be gathered when a café is visited in person. In this context, we conducted impression evaluation experiments on photographic and actual café facades using semantic differential techniques in order to identify the elements that influence the ease of entering

Recreational Spaces for the Visually-Handicapped Part 2: Evaluation of Shops on a Guided Bus Tour

It is important to create and modify the environments in which the visually-handicapped can go shopping easily and enjoyably. This study is based on "taking part in a guided bus tour", and we investigate whether they can indeed enjoy shopping in the facilities visited. The guided bus tour takes one whole day, during which they visit five facilities -an aquarium, a multi-purpose dome, a castle, a water bus and a sky observation deck. All these facilities have some shops, except for the water bus.ARCHITECTURE, 50th anniversary editio

Recreational Spaces for the Visually-Handicapped : Taking Part in a Guided Bus Tour

It is important that visually-handicapped people can adapt themselves to contemporary society, operate freely and enjoy leisure as much as normal-sighted people can. This is a case study on enjoying leisure and recreational spaces for the visually-handicapped. The visually-handicapped take part in a guided bus tour, and we investigate whether they can enjoy the bus ride and the facilities visited. The guided bus tour takes one whole day during which they visit five facilities-an aquarium, a multi-purpose dome, a castle, a water bus and a sky observation deck

Walking Environments for the Visually-Handicapped : Recognition of Spaces in a Geometric Model Laboratory

    Get PDF
In daily life it is not safe for visually-handicapped people to walk alone and often they have accidents or lose their way. In order to improve walking environments, it is important to show clearly how visually-handicapped people recognize spaces and their position in spaces, and what the clues to recognition are. In this study, in order to clarify the characteristics of search behavior, experiments are carried out in 12 kinds of model spaces of geometric plan. The behavior of the visually-handicapped is analyzed by walking locus, and the recognition of spaces, by sketch map and interview
