Comments on the Monopole-Antimonopole Pair Solutions

Recently, the monopole-antimonopole pair and monopole-antimonopole chain solutions are solved with internal space coordinate system of θ\theta-winding number mm greater than one. However, we notice that it is also possible to solve these solutions numerically in terms of θ\theta-winding number m=1m=1 instead. When m=1m=1, the exact asymptotic solutions at small and large distances are parameterized by a single integer parameter ss. Here we once again study the monopole-antimonopole pair solution of the SU(2) Yang-Mills-Higgs theory which belongs to the topological trivial sector numerically in its new form. This solution with θ\theta-winding and ϕ\phi-winding number one is parameterized by s=0s=0 at small rr and s=1s=1 at large rr.Comment: Two figures, 13 pages, to be sent for publicatio

    Decoherence of Einstein-Podolsky-Rosen steering

We consider two systems A and B that share Einstein-Podolsky-Rosen (EPR) steering correlations and study how these correlations will decay, when each of the systems are independently coupled to a reservoir. EPR steering is a directional form of entanglement, and the measure of steering can change depending on whether the system A is steered by B, or vice versa. First, we examine the decay of the steering correlations of the two-mode squeezed state. We find that if the system B is coupled to a reservoir, then the decoherence of the steering of A by B is particularly marked, to the extent that there is a sudden death of steering after a finite time. We find a different directional effect, if the reservoirs are thermally excited. Second, we study the decoherence of the steering of a Schr\"odinger cat state, modeled as the entangled state of a spin and harmonic oscillator, when the macroscopic system (the cat) is coupled to a reservoir

NOTATIONAL ANALYSIS OF INTERNATIONAL BADMINTON COMPETITIONS

Notational analysis of competitions is a widely used method for observing the playing patterns of many sports. An experiment was carried out to determine the playing tactics adopted by athletes in international badminton competitions. A total of 10 major competitions were recorded and the data was processed using a generic notational analysis software. The types of techniques used, the success and failure rates of the various shots were computed and compared using statistical methods of analysis. The results showed that the top three most popular shots used were Lift, Net and Clear. It was also found' that there were significant differences among the percentage of shots used in the three court areas as well, as the type of shots used by males and females

    Half-Monopole and Multimonopole

We would like to present some exact SU(2) Yang-Mills-Higgs monopole solutions of half-integer topological charge. These solutions can be just an isolated half-monopole or a multimonopole with topological magnetic charge, 1/2m{1/2}m, where mm is a natural number. These static monopole solutions satisfy the first order Bogomol'nyi equations. The axially symmetric one-half monopole gauge potentials possess a Dirac-like string singularity along the negative z-axis. The multimonopole gauge potentials are also singular along the z-axis and possess only mirror symmetries.Comment: 12 pages and 4 figures; typos corrected, reference adde

Factors affecting product quality and reliability: A comparison of developed and developing countries

    Get PDF
Increasing global competition has led to the need for organisations to continually improve their quality performance. In particular, developing countries such as China are focused on catching up with more developed countries. This study examines the relationships between improvement in three factors (health and safety conditions, worker motivation and satisfaction, work/life balance policies) in increase in product quality and reliability in developed countries. Based on a questionnaire, the study shows that improvement in health and safety conditions have a significant direct impact on increase in product quality and reliability while improvement in work/life balance do not have the same effect

A survey on touch dynamics authentication in mobile devices

© 2016 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved. There have been research activities in the area of keystroke dynamics biometrics on physical keyboards (desktop computers or conventional mobile phones) undertaken in the past three decades. However, in terms of touch dynamics biometrics on virtual keyboards (modern touchscreen mobile devices), there has been little published work. Particularly, there is a lack of an extensive survey and evaluation of the methodologies adopted in the area. Owing to the widespread use of touchscreen mobile devices, it is necessary for us to examine the techniques and their effectiveness in the domain of touch dynamics biometrics. The aim of this paper is to provide some insights and comparative analysis of the current state of the art in the topic area, including data acquisition protocols, feature data representations, decision making techniques, as well as experimental settings and evaluations. With such a survey, we can gain a better understanding of the current state of the art, thus identifying challenging issues and knowledge gaps for further research
