Southern Arizona riparian habitat: Spatial distribution and analysis
The objectives of this study were centered around the demonstration of remote sensing as an inventory tool and researching the multiple uses of riparian vegetation. Specific study objectives were to: (1) map riparian vegetation along the Gila River, San Simon Creek, San Pedro River, Pantano Wash, (2) determine the feasibility of automated mapping using LANDSAT-1 computer compatible tapes, (3) locate and summarize existing mpas delineating riparian vegetation, (4) summarize data relevant to Southern Arizona's riparian products and uses, (5) document recent riparian vegetation changes along a selected portion of the San Pedro River, (6) summarize historical changes in composition and distribution of riparian vegetation, and (7) summarize sources of available photography pertinent to Southern Arizona
The enormous outer Galaxy HII region CTB 102
We present new radio recombination line observations of the previously
unstudied HII region CTB 102. Line parameters are extracted and physical
parameters describing the gas are calculated. We estimate the distance to CTB
102 to be 4.3 kpc. Through comparisons with HI and 1.42 GHz radio continuum
data, we estimate the size of CTB 102 to be 100-130 pc, making it one of the
largest HII regions known, comparable to the W4 complex. A stellar wind blown
bubble model is presented as the best explanation for the observed morphology,
size and velocities.Comment: 26 pages, 8 figures. Accepted for publication by The Astrophysical

Multi-wavelength analysis of the Galactic supernova remnant MSH 11-61A
Due to its centrally bright X-ray morphology and limb brightened radio
profile, MSH 11-61A (G290.1-0.8) is classified as a mixed morphology supernova
remnant (SNR). H\textsc{i} and CO observations determined that the SNR is
interacting with molecular clouds found toward the north and southwest regions
of the remnant. In this paper we report on the detection of -ray
emission coincident with MSH 11-61A, using 70 months of data from the Large
Area Telescope on board the \textit{Fermi Gamma-ray Space Telescope}. To
investigate the origin of this emission, we perform broadband modelling of its
non-thermal emission considering both leptonic and hadronic cases and
concluding that the -ray emission is most likely hadronic in nature.
Additionally we present our analysis of a 111 ks archival \textit{Suzaku}
observation of this remnant. Our investigation shows that the X-ray emission
from MSH 11-61A arises from shock-heated ejecta with the bulk of the X-ray
emission arising from a recombining plasma, while the emission towards the east
arises from an ionising plasma.Comment: 12 Pages, 8 figures. Accepted for publication in the Astrophysical

Applied Remote Sensing Program (ARSP) to state and local government
Environmental surveys of arid land areas (Arizona) in the United States are presented. Maps of soils, vegetation, drainage patterns, and land use are shown. The distribution of uranium deposits, oil and gas pools, is also shown. Legislation pertaining to the preservation of natural resources is discussed
Bistability in a simple fluid network due to viscosity contrast
We study the existence of multiple equilibrium states in a simple fluid
network using Newtonian fluids and laminar flow. We demonstrate theoretically
the presence of hysteresis and bistability, and we confirm these predictions in
an experiment using two miscible fluids of different viscosity--sucrose
solution and water. Possible applications include bloodflow, microfluidics, and
other network flows governed by similar principles
