    Being subjects of the higher order of life that extends beyond primitive means of sustenance, humans are designed to accustom themselves to the dynamic interrelations in society. Social interactions mould everyday life and are also instrumental in forming perceptions about the world. People are required to perform in multiple ways, and this gets them located in various subject positions. “Gender” and its implications as a social construct are of primary concern in this regard. Refined and reinterpreted over time, gender positively incorporates the possibilities for myriad levels of understanding associated with its practice. However, it is when people choose to selectively misconstrue gender roles that it becomes a problematic subject, thereby affecting the healthy existence of the male-female dichotomy in both personal and social spaces. Cultural conditioning and parental rearing are among the major factors that lead to the establishment of essentialist gender roles. Beginning with its base on the Freudian Psychoanalytic theory of male development, “masculinity” has come to be analysed from different standpoints by psychologists and literary theorists alike. In this paper, my attempt is to map the characteristics that outline the “masculinity” and “male ego” of the characters Esteban Trueba from The House of the Spirits and Pedro Musquiz from Like Water for Chocolate. Both the novels, though predominantly female-oriented, provide ample instances to explore the psyche of these not-so-minor male characters

    CD4 count evaluation in HIV-TB co infection before and after anti-tubercular treatment

    Background:The global impact of Tuberculosis (TB) and Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) co-infection is one of the major public health challenge. India has a very high burden of TB according to the WHO. A decrease in CD4 counts in HIV-TB co-infection leads to an increase in morbidity and mortality.Methods:Information regarding the duration of HIV, type of TB, CD4 counts before and after ATT and any associated Opportunistic Infections (OIs) were collected from the records of 100 patients with HIV-TB co-infection who attended ART centre for a period of one year. The collected data was statistically analyzed.Results: In the study group, 35 had Pulmonary Tuberculosis (PTB) and 65 had Extra Pulmonary Tuberculosis (EPTB), 40 had OIs. Mean CD4 count prior to ATT in PTB was 197 (7-940), EPTB 192 (13-683) and with OIs 129 (7-288). After completion in PTB was 300, EPTB 302 and 252 in OIs. Least CD4 count of 121 was observed in patients above 50yrs and after completion it was 133. Incidence of both EPTB and PTB was higher in males 66.2% and 62.9%, and in the age group of 31-50 yrs 50.8% and 60% (Cell counts expressed in cells/µl.).Conclusion:In our study, we found that there was significant recovery of CD4 cells following ATT. Difference in CD4 counts among patients with PTB and EPTB was not significant. There was remarkable reduction of CD4 counts in patients who had other OIs and the recovery after ATT was also marginal.

    Aerobic bacterial profile and their antimicrobial sensitivity pattern in patients of otitis media with ear discharge

    Background: The average prevalence of Chronic suppurative otitis media (CSOM) in India is 5.2%. It is more prevalent due to various predisposing factors such as malnutrition, overcrowding, poor hygiene, inadequate health care, and recurrent upper respiratory tract infection. In recent years, there is increased preponderance of multi drug resistant organisms due to the irrational use of antibiotics, making treatment of CSOM more difficult.Methods: Samples from 100 subjects of uncomplicated CSOM who presented to the Oto-Rhino-Laryngology outpatient department of our hospital were collected. Aerobic bacterial profile and its Antimicrobial susceptibility were studied by conventional methods. Results were compiled and evaluated by descriptive statistics and inferential statistics.Results: Pseudomonas aeruginosa (50.7%) and Staphylococcus aureus (19.04%) were the predominant isolates in our study. Aminoglycosides and Fluoroquinolones were found to be effective first line drugs, followed by Carbapenems.Conclusions: These antibiotics can be used to prevent the life-long complications of CSOM. Timely culture and sensitivity helps in the management of these cases.

    The design of RF-MEMS Switch is useful for future artificial intelligence applications. Radio detection and range estimation has been employed with RF MEMS technology. Attenuators, limiters, phase shifters, T/R switches, and adjustable matching networks are components of RF MEMS. The proposed RF MEMS technology has been introduced in T/R modules, lenses, reflect arrays, sub arrays and switching beam formers. The uncertain RF MEMS switches have been faced many issues like switching and voltage alterations. This study aims in the direction of design, simulation, model along with RF MEMS switching analysis including consistent curving or meandering. The proposed RF MEMS Switch is a flexure form of the Meanders that attain minimal power in nominal voltage. Moreover, this research work highlights the materials assortment in case of beam along with signal-based dielectric. The performance analysis is demonstrated for various materials that have been utilized in the design purpose. Further, better isolation is accomplished at the range of -31dB necessary regarding 8.06V pull-in voltage through a spring constant valued at 3.588N/m, switching capacitance analysis has been found to be 103 fF at ON state and 7.03pF at OFF state and the proposed switch is optimized to work at 38GHz. The designed RF MEMS switch is giving 30% voltage improvement; switching frequency is improved by 21.32% had been attained, which are outperformance the methodology and compete with present technology

    A CASE REPORT ON ALLOPURINOL INDUCED DRESS SYNDROME

    Allopurinol-induced DRESS Syndrome or Drug Rash with Eosinophilia and Systemic Symptom is a rare but potentially fatal drug reaction. Fever, rashes, swelling, and hematologic abnormalities, particularly short-term or long-term injury to one or more organs, have been reported by over 0.4 percent of patients following the course of medicine. Here, a 54-year-old female patient was admitted to the hospital with complaints of fever, purpuric rashes over the body with itching mainly in the oral cavity and lips, and the extent to the upper back and lower limbs for three days. She had known complaints of Type 2 Diabetes, Systemic hypertension, Coronary artery disease with recent NSTEMI, Dyslipidaemia, Psychosis (20y), and Chronic kidney disease. She had been taking Allopurinol for the past three months for hyperuricemia. Allopurinol treatment stopped while topical Steroid treatment started along with supportive therapy. After ten days, the rashes improved significantly, allowing her to leave the hospital

    On possible wormhole solutions supported by non-commutative geometry within f(R,Lm)f(R, L_m) gravity

    Non-commutativity is a key feature of spacetime geometry. The current article explores the traversable wormhole solutions in the framework of f(R,Lm)f(R,L_m) gravity within non-commutative geometry. By using the Gaussian and Lorentzian distributions, we construct tideless wormholes for the nonlinear f(R,Lm)f(R,L_m) model f(R,Lm)=R2+Lmαf(R,L_m)=\dfrac{R}{2}+L_m^\alpha. For both cases, we derive shape functions and discuss the required different properties with satisfying behavior. For the required wormhole properties, we develop some new constraints. The influence of the involved model parameter on energy conditions is analyzed graphically which provides a discussion about the nature of exotic matter. Further, we check the physical behavior regarding the stability of wormhole solutions through the TOV equation. An interesting feature regarding the stability of the obtained solutions via the speed of sound parameters within the scope of average pressure is discussed.     Wormhole Geometry and Three-Dimensional Embedding in Extended Symmetric Teleparallel Gravity

    In the present manuscript, we study traversable wormhole solutions in the background of extended symmetric teleparallel gravity with matter coupling. With the anisotropic matter distribution we probe the wormhole geometry for two different gravity models. Primarily, we consider the linear model f(Q,T)=Q+2 ξ T f(Q,T) =Q + 2 \, \xi \,T. Firstly, we presume a logarithmic form of shape function and analyze the scenario for different redshift functions. Secondly, for a specific form of energy density, we derive a shape function and note its satisfying behavior. Next, for the non-linear model f(Q,T)=Q+α,Q2+β,Tf(Q,T) = Q + \alpha ,Q^2 + \beta ,T and a specific shape function we examine the wormhole solution.
