    SCET sum rules for heavy-to-light form factors

    We consider a sum rule for heavy-to-light form factors in soft-collinear effective theory (SCET). Using the correlation function given by the time-ordered product of a heavy-to-light current and its hermitian conjugate, the heavy-to-light soft form factor zeta_P can be related to the leading-order B meson shape function. Using the scaling behavior of the heavy-to-light form factor in Lambda_QCD/m_b, we put a constraint on the behavior of the BB meson shape function near the endpoint. We employ the sum rule to estimate the size of zeta_P with the model for the shape function and find that it ranges from 0.01 to 0.07.Comment: 11 pages, 5 figure

    p120 catenin is required for the stress response in Drosophila

    p120ctn is a ubiquitously expressed core component of cadherin junctions and essential for vertebrate development. Surprisingly, Drosophila p120ctn (dp120ctn) is dispensable for adherens junctions and development, which has discouraged Drosophila researchers from further pursuing the biological role of dp120ctn. Here we demonstrate that dp120ctn loss results in increased heat shock sensitivity and reduced animal lifespan, which are completely rescued by ectopic expression of a dp120ctn-GFP transgene. Transcriptomic analysis revealed multiple relish/NF-κB target genes differentially expressed upon loss of dp120ctn. Importantly, this aberrant gene expression was rescued by overexpression of dp120ctn-GFP or heterozygosity for relish. Our results uncover a novel role for dp120ctn in the regulation of animal stress response and immune signalling. This may represent an ancient role of p120ctn and can influence further studies in Drosophila and mammals

    Transferability of Human Capital and Immigrant Assimilation – An Analysis for Germany

    This paper investigates the transferability of human capital across countries and the contribution of imperfect human capital portability to the explanation of the immigrant-native wage gap. Using data for West Germany, our results reveal that, overall, education and labor market experience accumulated in the home countries of the immigrants receive signicantly lower returns than human capital obtained in Germany. We further fi nd evidence for heterogeneity in the returns to human capital of immigrants across origin countries. Finally, imperfect human capital transferability appears to be a major factor in explaining the wage diff erential between natives and immigrants.Human capital; rate of return; immigration; assimilation

    Nonlinear resonance absorption in laser-cluster interaction

    Rare gas or metal clusters are known to absorb laser energy very efficiently. Upon cluster expansion the Mie plasma frequency may become equal to the laser frequency. This linear resonance has been well studied both experimentally and theoretically employing pump probe schemes. In this work we focus on the few-cycle regime or the early stage of the cluster dynamics where linear resonance is not met but nevertheless efficient absorption of laser energy persists. By retrieving time-dependent oscillator frequencies from particle-in-cell simulation results, we show that nonlinear resonance is the dominant mechanism behind outer ionization and energy absorption in near infrared laser-driven clusters.Comment: 4 pages, 4 figures, REVTeX, minor modifications according to referee comments, accepted for publication in Phys.
