Background: The term asymptomatic bacteriuria is defined as the presence of > 100,000 colonies of a single bacterial species per millilitre of urine (105 cfu /mL), cultured from clean catch midstream sample in the absence of declared symptoms. The aim of this study was to know the incidence of asymptomatic bacteriuria in pregnancy and the various factors influencing it, to identify the pathogens and their antibiotic susceptibility patterns. Methods: Clean catch mid-stream urine samples were collected from 3000 pregnant women (all trimesters) aged between 18-35 years of age attending the antenatal OPD in GMCH, Guwahati for a period of one year (July 2018-June2019).  Identification of organisms and antibiotic sensitivity tests were performed as per standard methods. Results: In our study, incidence of asymptomatic bacteriuria was found to be 12.1%. Most women (52.89%) were in the age group of (20-30) years, mostly in second trimester (47.1%). Gram negative organisms were the commonest organisms isolated; among which Escherichia coli (56.75%) was the principal urinary pathogen followed by Klebsiella sp (14.33%) and Staphylococcus saprophyticus (12.67%). The isolates were most sensitive to Nitrofurantoin (87.88%).Conclusions: Asymptomatic bacteriuria is common in pregnancy. Once ASB is recognized during pregnancy, it should be appropriately treated with antibiotics and promptly followed up

Trimethylsilyl chloride assisted conjugate addition-elimination of organocopper reagents to 2-bis(methylthio)nitroethylene: an efficient and highly stereoselective synthesis of 2-methylthio-2-alkyl/aryl-1-nitroethylenes and their application for synthesis of nitroheterocycles

An efficient method for the synthesis of novel 2-methylthio-2-alkyl/aryl-1-nitroethylenes 2 has been developed via conjugate addition-elimination of organocopper reagents to nitroketene dithioacetal 1 in the presence of TMSCl. The product nitroethylenes 2 have been further utilized for the synthesis of substituted 3-nitro-2-alkyl/arylpyrroles 5 by their reaction with aminoacetaldehyde dimethylacetal followed by acid catalyzed cyclization in ethereal HCl. The reaction of 2 with propargyl alcohol has also been investigated

Ion Mobility Studies of Electronically Excited States of Atomic Transition Metal Cations: Development of an Ion Mobility Source for Guided Ion Beam Experiments

The design of an ion mobility source developed to couple to a guided ion beam tandem mass spectrometer is presented. In these exploratory studies, metal ions are created continuously by electron ionization of the volatile hexacarbonyls of the three group 6 transition metals. These ions are focused into a linear hexapole ion trap, which collects the ions and then creates high intensity pulses of ions, avoiding excessive ion losses resulting from the low duty cycle of pulsed operation. The ion pulses are injected into a six-ring drift cell filled with helium where ions having different electronic configurations can separate because they have different ion mobilities. Such separation is observed for chromium ions and compares favorably with the pioneering work of Kemper and Bowers (J. Phys. Chem. 1991, 95, 5134). The results are then extended to Mo+ and W+, which also show efficient configuration separation. The source conditions needed for high intensities and good configuration separation are discussed in detail and suggestions for further improvements are also provided

A semi-analytical approach to perturbations in mutated hilltop inflation

We study cosmological perturbations and observational aspects for mutated hilltop model of inflation. Employing mostly analytical treatment, we evaluate observable parameters during inflation as well as post-inflationary perturbations. This further leads to exploring observational aspects related to Cosmic Microwave Background (CMB) radiation. This semi-analytical treatment reduces complications related to numerical computation to some extent for studying the different phenomena related to CMB angular power spectrum for mutated hilltop inflation.Comment: 7 pages, 2 figures.
