The large CP phase in B(s)-anti-B(s) mixing from primary scalar unparticles
In this letter we consider the case of primary scalar unparticle
contributions to B(d,s) mixing. With particular emphasis on the impact of the
recent hint of new physics in the measurement of the B(s) mixing phase, phi(s),
we determine the allowed parameter space and impose bounds on the unparticle
couplings.Comment: 8 pages, 8 jpeg figures, using pdflatex. Typo corrected, reference

Robust evolution system for Numerical Relativity
The paper combines theoretical and applied ideas which have been previously
considered separately into a single set of evolution equations for Numerical
Relativity. New numerical ingredients are presented which avoid gauge
pathologies and allow one to perform robust 3D calculations. The potential of
the resulting numerical code is demonstrated by using the Schwarzschild black
hole as a test-bed. Its evolution can be followed up to times greater than one
hundred black hole masses.Comment: 11 pages, 4 figures; figure correcte
A systematic review and thematic synthesis of patients' experience of medicines adherence
Background: Medicines non-adherence continues to be problematic in health care practice. After decades of research, few interventions have a robust evidence-based demonstrating their applicability to improve adherence. Phenomenology has a place within the health care research environment. Objective: To explore patientsâ lived experiences of medicines adherence reported in the phenomenonologic literature. Methods: A systematic literature search was conducted to identify peer-reviewed and published phenomenological investigations in adults that aimed to investigate patientsâ lived experiences of medicines adherence. Studies were appraised using the Critical Appraisal Skills Programme (CASP) Qualitative Research Tool. Thematic synthesis was conducted using a combination of manual coding and NVivo10 [QSR International, Melbourne] coding to aid data management. Results: Descriptive themes identified included i) dislike for medicines, ii) survival, iii) perceived need, including a) symptoms and side-effects and b) cost, and iv) routine. Analytic themes identified were i) identity and ii) interaction. Conclusions: This work describes adherence as a social interaction between the identity of patients and medicines, mediated by interaction with family, friends, health care professionals, the media and the medicine, itself. Health care professionals and policy makers should seek to re-locate adherence as a social phenomenon, directing the development of interventions to exploit patient interaction with wider society, such that patients âget to knowâ their medicines, and how they can be taken, throughout the life of the patient and the prescription
Almost-stationary motions and gauge conditions in General Relativity
An almost-stationary gauge condition is proposed with a view to Numerical
Relativity applications. The time lines are defined as the integral curves of
the timelike solutions of the harmonic almost-Killing equation. This vector
equation is derived by a variational principle, by minimizing the deviations
from isometry. The corresponding almost-stationary gauge condition allows one
to put the field equations in hyperbolic form, both in the free-evolution ADM
and in the Z4 formalisms.Comment: Talk presented at the Spanish Relativity Meeting, September 6-10 2005

Symmetric hyperbolic system in the Ashtekar formulation
We present a first-order symmetric hyperbolic system in the Ashtekar
formulation of general relativity for vacuum spacetime. We add terms from
constraint equations to the evolution equations with appropriate combinations,
which is the same technique used by Iriondo, Leguizam\'on and Reula [Phys. Rev.
Lett. 79, 4732 (1997)]. However our system is different from theirs in the
points that we primarily use Hermiticity of a characteristic matrix of the
system to characterize our system "symmetric", discuss the consistency of this
system with reality condition, and show the characteristic speeds of the
system.Comment: 4 pages, RevTeX, to appear in Phys. Rev. Lett., Comments added, refs

Dynamics of Gravitational Waves in 3D: Formulations, Methods, and Tests
The dynamics of gravitational waves is investigated in full 3+1 dimensional
numerical relativity, emphasizing the difficulties that one might encounter in
numerical evolutions, particularly those arising from non-linearities and gauge
degrees of freedom. Using gravitational waves with amplitudes low enough that
one has a good understanding of the physics involved, but large enough to
enable non-linear effects to emerge, we study the coupling between numerical
errors, coordinate effects, and the nonlinearities of the theory. We discuss
the various strategies used in identifying specific features of the evolution.
We show the importance of the flexibility of being able to use different
numerical schemes, different slicing conditions, different formulations of the
Einstein equations (standard ADM vs. first order hyperbolic), and different
sets of equations (linearized vs. full Einstein equations). A non-linear scalar
field equation is presented which captures some properties of the full Einstein
equations, and has been useful in our understanding of the coupling between
finite differencing errors and non-linearites. We present a set of monitoring
devices which have been crucial in our studying of the waves, including Riemann
invariants, pseudo-energy momentum tensor, hamiltonian constraint violation,
and fourier spectrum analysis.Comment: 34 pages, 14 figure
The Physics of Heavy Flavours at SuperB
This is a review of the SuperB project, covering the accelerator, detector,
and highlights of the broad physics programme. SuperB is a flavour factory
capable of performing precision measurements and searches for rare and
forbidden decays of , , and
particles. These results can be used to test fundamental symmetries and
expectations of the Standard Model, and to constrain many different
hypothesised types of new physics. In some cases these measurements can be used
to place constraints on the existence of light dark matter and light Higgs
particles with masses below . The potential impact of the
measurements that will be made by SuperB on the field of high energy physics is
also discussed in the context of data taken at both high energy in the region
around the \Upsilon({\mathrm{4S}})$, and near charm threshold.Comment: 49 pages, topical review submitted to J. Phys
Does the Isotropy of the CMB Imply a Homogeneous Universe? Some Generalised EGS Theorems
We demonstrate that the high isotropy of the Cosmic Microwave Background
(CMB), combined with the Copernican principle, is not sufficient to prove
homogeneity of the universe -- in contrast to previous results on this subject.
The crucial additional factor not included in earlier work is the acceleration
of the fundamental observers. We find the complete class of irrotational
perfect fluid spacetimes admitting an exactly isotropic radiation field for
every fundamental observer and show that are FLRW if and only if the
acceleration is zero. While inhomogeneous in general, these spacetimes all
possess three-dimensional symmetry groups, from which it follows that they also
admit a thermodynamic interpretation. In addition to perfect fluids models we
also consider multi-component fluids containing non-interacting radiation, dust
and a quintessential scalar field or cosmological constant in which the
radiation is isotropic for the geodesic (dust) observers. It is shown that the
non-acceleration of the fundamental observers forces these spacetimes to be
FLRW. While it is plausible that fundamental observers (galaxies) in the real
universe follow geodesics, it is strictly necessary to determine this from
local observations for the cosmological principle to be more than an
assumption. We discuss how observations may be used to test this.Comment: replaced with final version. Added discusion and ref
A new CP violating observable for the LHC
We study a new type of CP violating observable that arises in three body
decays that are dominated by an intermediate resonance. If two interfering
diagrams exist with different orderings of final state particles, the required
CP-even phase arises due to the different virtualities of the resonance in each
of the two diagrams. This method can be an important tool for accessing new CP
phases at the LHC and future colliders.Comment: 22 pages, v2: discussion of charged particle decays and a few

Symmetric Hyperbolic System in the Self-dual Teleparallel Gravity
In order to discuss the well-posed initial value formulation of the
teleparallel gravity and apply it to numerical relativity a symmetric
hyperbolic system in the self-dual teleparallel gravity which is equivalent to
the Ashtekar formulation is posed. This system is different from the ones in
other works by that the reality condition of the spatial metric is included in
the symmetric hyperbolicity and then is no longer an independent condition. In
addition the constraint equations of this system are rather simpler than the
ones in other works.Comment: 8 pages, no figure
