Quantum support vector data description for anomaly detection
Anomaly detection is a critical problem in data analysis and pattern
recognition, finding applications in various domains. We introduce quantum
support vector data description (QSVDD), an unsupervised learning algorithm
designed for anomaly detection. QSVDD utilizes a shallow-depth quantum circuit
to learn a minimum-volume hypersphere that tightly encloses normal data,
tailored for the constraints of noisy intermediate-scale quantum (NISQ)
computing. Simulation results on the MNIST and Fashion MNIST image datasets
demonstrate that QSVDD outperforms both quantum autoencoder and deep
learning-based approaches under similar training conditions. Notably, QSVDD
offers the advantage of training an extremely small number of model parameters,
which grows logarithmically with the number of input qubits. This enables
efficient learning with a simple training landscape, presenting a compact
quantum machine learning model with strong performance for anomaly detection.Comment: 14 pages, 5 figure
Subwavelength localization and toroidal dipole moment of spoof surface plasmon polaritons
We experimentally and theoretically demonstrate subwavelength scale localization of spoof surface plasmon polaritons at a point defect in a two-dimensional groove metal array. An analytical expression for dispersion relation of spoof surface plasmon polaritons substantiates the existence of a band gap where a defect mode can be introduced. A waveguide coupling method allows us to excite localized spoof surface plasmon polariton modes and measure their resonance frequencies. Numerical calculations confirm that localized modes can have a very small modal volume and a high Q factor both of which are essential in enhancing light-matter interactions. Interestingly, we find that the localized spoof surface plasmon polariton has a significant toroidal dipole moment, which is responsible for the high Q factor, as well as an electric quadrupole moment. In addition, the dispersion properties of spoof surface plasmon polaritons are analyzed using a modal expansion method and numerical calculations
Performance of a prototype active veto system using liquid scintillator for a dark matter search experiment
We report the performance of an active veto system using a liquid
scintillator with NaI(Tl) crystals for use in a dark matter search experiment.
When a NaI(Tl) crystal is immersed in the prototype detector, the detector tags
48% of the internal K-40 background in the 0-10 keV energy region. We also
determined the tagging efficiency for events at 6-20 keV as 26.5 +/- 1.7% of
the total events, which corresponds to 0.76 +/- 0.04 events/keV/kg/day.
According to a simulation, approximately 60% of the background events from U,
Th, and K radioisotopes in photomultiplier tubes are tagged at energies of 0-10
keV. Full shielding with a 40-cm-thick liquid scintillator can increase the
tagging efficiency for both the internal K-40 and external background to
approximately 80%.Comment: Submitted to Nuclear Instruments and Methods in Physics Research

Bucillamine prevents cisplatin-induced ototoxicity through induction of glutathione and antioxidant genes.
Bucillamine is used for the treatment of rheumatoid arthritis. This study investigated the protective effects of bucillamine against cisplatin-induced damage in auditory cells, the organ of Corti from postnatal rats (P2) and adult Balb/C mice. Cisplatin increases the catalytic activity of caspase-3 and caspase-8 proteases and the production of free radicals, which were significantly suppressed by pretreatment with bucillamine. Bucillamine induces the intranuclear translocation of Nrf2 and thereby increases the expression of γ-glutamylcysteine synthetase (γ-GCS) and glutathione synthetase (GSS), which further induces intracellular antioxidant glutathione (GSH), heme oxygenase 1 (HO-1) and superoxide dismutase 2 (SOD2). However, knockdown studies of HO-1 and SOD2 suggest that the protective effect of bucillamine against cisplatin is independent of the enzymatic activity of HO-1 and SOD. Furthermore, pretreatment with bucillamine protects sensory hair cells on organ of Corti explants from cisplatin-induced cytotoxicity concomitantly with inhibition of caspase-3 activation. The auditory-brainstem-evoked response of cisplatin-injected mice shows marked increases in hearing threshold shifts, which was markedly suppressed by pretreatment with bucillamine in vivo. Taken together, bucillamine protects sensory hair cells from cisplatin through a scavenging effect on itself, as well as the induction of intracellular GSH
Geometric Transition versus Cascading Solution
We study Vafa's geometric transition and Klebanov - Strassler solution from
various points of view in M-theory. In terms of brane configurations, we show
the detailed equivalences between the two models. In some limits, both models
have an alternative realization as fourfolds in M-theory with appropriate
G-fluxes turned on. We discuss some aspects of the fourfolds including how to
see the transition and a possible extension to the non-supersymmetric case.Comment: 34 pages, LaTex, 2 figures; v2: Some comments added and references

Hyperons analogous to the \Lambda(1405)
The low mass of the hyperon with , which is
higher than the ground state mass by 290 MeV, is difficult to
understand in quark models. We analyze the hyperon spectrum in the bound state
approach of the Skyrme model that successfully describes both the
and the . This model predicts that several
hyperon resonances of the same spin but with opposite parity form parity
doublets that have a mass difference of around 300 MeV, which is indeed
realized in the observed hyperon spectrum. Furthermore, the existence of the
and the of is predicted by this model.
Comments on the baryons and heavy quark baryons are made as well.Comment: 4 pages, talk presented at the Fifth Asia-Pacific Conference on
