Hunting Local Mixmaster Dynamics in Spatially Inhomogeneous Cosmologies
Heuristic arguments and numerical simulations support the Belinskii et al
(BKL) claim that the approach to the singularity in generic gravitational
collapse is characterized by local Mixmaster dynamics (LMD). Here, one way to
identify LMD in collapsing spatially inhomogeneous cosmologies is explored. By
writing the metric of one spacetime in the standard variables of another,
signatures for LMD may be found. Such signatures for the dynamics of spatially
homogeneous Mixmaster models in the variables of U(1)-symmetric cosmologies are
reviewed. Similar constructions for U(1)-symmetric spacetimes in terms of the

On the area of the symmetry orbits in symmetric spacetimes
We obtain a global existence result for the Einstein equations. We show that
in the maximal Cauchy development of vacuum symmetric initial data with
nonvanishing twist constant, except for the special case of flat Kasner initial
data, the area of the group orbits takes on all positive values. This
result shows that the areal time coordinate which covers these spacetimes
runs from zero to infinity, with the singularity occurring at R=0.Comment: The appendix which appears in version 1 has a technical problem (the

since the appendix is unnecessary for the proof of our results, we leave it

A Modified Version of the Waxman Algorithm
The iterative algorithm recently proposed by Waxman for solving eigenvalue
problems, which relies on the method of moments, has been modified to improve
its convergence considerably without sacrificing its benefits or elegance. The
suggested modification is based on methods to calculate low-lying eigenpairs of
large bounded hermitian operators or matrices
Persistence of singlet fluctuations in the coupled spin tetrahedra system Cu2Te2O5Br2 revealed by high-field magnetization and 79Br NQR - 125Te NMR
We present high-field magnetization and Br nuclear quadrupole
resonance (NQR) and Te nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) studies in the
weakly coupled Cu () tetrahedral system CuTeOBr.
The field-induced level crossing effects were observed by the magnetization
measurements in a long-ranged magnetically ordered state which was confirmed by
a strong divergence of the spin-lattice relaxation rate 1/T1 at T0=13.5 K. In
the paramagnetic state, 1/T1 reveals an effective singlet-triplet spin gap much
larger than that observed by static bulk measurements. Our results imply that
the inter- and the intra-tetrahedral interactions compete, but at the same time
they cooperate strengthening effectively the local intratetrahedral exchange
couplings. We discuss that the unusual feature originates from the frustrated

General Relativity and Gravitation: A Centennial Perspective
To commemorate the 100th anniversary of general relativity, the International
Society on General Relativity and Gravitation (ISGRG) commissioned a Centennial
Volume, edited by the authors of this article. We jointly wrote introductions
to the four Parts of the Volume which are collected here. Our goal is to
provide a bird's eye view of the advances that have been made especially during
the last 35 years, i.e., since the publication of volumes commemorating
Einstein's 100th birthday. The article also serves as a brief preview of the 12
invited chapters that contain in-depth reviews of these advances. The volume
will be published by Cambridge University Press and released in June 2015 at a
Centennial conference sponsored by ISGRG and the Topical Group of Gravitation

Ni3TeO6 - a collinear antiferromagnet with ferromagnetic honeycomb planes
We report a comprehensive study of magnetic properties of Ni3TeO6. The system
crystallizes in a noncentrosymmetric rhombohedral lattice, space group R3.
There are three differently coordinated Ni atoms in the unit cell. Two of them
form an almost planar honeycomb lattice, while the third one is placed between
the layers. Magnetization and specific heat measurements revealed a single
magnetic ordering at TN = 52 K. Below TN the susceptibility with the magnetic
field parallel to the c-axis drops towards zero while the perpendicular
susceptibility remains constant, a characteristic of antiferromagnetic
materials. Neutron diffraction confirmed that the system is antiferromagnet
below TN with ferromagnetic ab-planes stacked antiferromagnetically along the
c-axis. All Ni moments are in the S = 1 spin state and point along the c-axis.Comment: accepted for publication in Journal of Physics Condensed Matte
Fluctuation Superconductivity in Mesoscopic Aluminum Rings
Fluctuations are important near phase transitions, where they can be
difficult to describe quantitatively. Superconductivity in mesoscopic rings is
particularly intriguing because the critical temperature is an oscillatory
function of magnetic field. There is an exact theory for thermal fluctuations
in one-dimensional superconducting rings, which are therefore expected to be an
excellent model system. We measure the susceptibility of many rings, one ring
at a time, using a scanning SQUID that can isolate magnetic signals from seven
orders of magnitude larger background applied flux. We find that the
fluctuation theory describes the results and that a single parameter
characterizes the ways in which the fluctuations are especially important at
magnetic fields where the critical temperature is suppressed.Comment: Reprinted with permission from AAA

Internet-based support for infertile patients: a randomized controlled study
This study aimed to evaluate the efficacy and patient acceptance of the first German-language Internet-based treatment for infertile patients. Infertile patients (N=124) were randomly assigned to either an 8-week Internet-based cognitive-behavioral treatment, or to a waiting-list control group. Participants were assessed at treatment start, post-treatment, and at a 5-month follow-up. Outcome measures included mental health and pregnancy rate. From pre- to posttest, treated participants in contrast to controls did not show significant improvement, although between-group effect sizes were in favor of the intervention group on all mental health measures (Cohen's d ranged from 0.16 to 0.38). The intervention significantly reduced the depression level of clinically distressed and depressed participants. No effects were found regarding pregnancy rate. The treatment was assessed as positive or very positive by 80% of the participants; this finding coupled with the high demand for such support confirm that Internet-based interventions are a promising new approach for infertile patients that needs more development and testin
