    Experimental & Theoretical Analysis of Composite (Polyester & Silicon-Carbide) Cantilever Beam

    A cantilever beam is made from composite material which is consist of (matrix: polyester) and (particles: Silicon-Carbide) with different volume fraction of particles. A force is applied at the free end of beam with different values. The experimental maximum deflection of beam which occurs at the point of the applied load is recorded. The deflection and slope of beam are analyzed by using FEM modeling. MATLAB paltform is built to assemble the equations, vector and matrix of FEM and solving the unknown variables (deflection and slope) at each node. Also ANSYS platform is used to modeling beam in finite element and solve the problem. The numerical methods are used to compare the results with the theoretical and experimental data. A good agreement is observed between the above methods. The Increase in volume fraction of particles results in increasing the modulus of elasticity and decreasing the deflection of beam. An equation is suggested for modulus of elasticity as functions of volume fraction

    During medical school future student doctors are exposed to a multitude of patients, both natives and non-natives. However, there is no course offering (such as a foreign language or culture class) provided within the curriculum that prepares them for these future interactions. With communication being one of the primary skills used in healthcare, it is imperative to discuss the effects it can cause on a patient if not established. Overall, the goal of this research is to conduct a literary investigation regarding this matter and educate the medical community about the importance of providing effective communication in medicine. This begins with acknowledging the linguistic needs of the growing minority communities in medicine and integrating language courses in a medical school’s curriculum. When language barriers are preventing such communication processes, it compromises the health and quality of treatment of the non-English speaking patient. To combat the issue of language barriers in medicine, an ideal solution would be to teach medical students another foreign language to minimize such issues. However, the problem in doing so is getting students to commit to such a course or courses and the capability of students to learn another language. There has been an extensive amount of research done on language barriers and what is known about them. However, three areas still need to be researched and further discussed within the medical community. Most research shows that patients whose main language is not English usually have a poorer understanding of the care they are receiving and are less satisfied with the quality of healthcare. When a physician speaks the patient’s native language there is an improved patient interaction, understanding, and adherence to the treatment. Minority communities are comforted, proud, and appreciative of the physicians who take the time to learn and speak their language. Science and language should work together to minimize the disparities facing minority communities in medicine

    Post COVID-19 effect on medical staff and doctors' productivity analysed by machine learning

    The COVID-19 pandemic has profoundly affected the healthcare sector and the productivity of medical staff and doctors. This study employs machine learning to analyze the post-COVID-19 impact on the productivity of medical staff and doctors across various specialties. A cross-sectional study was conducted on 960 participants from different specialties between June 1, 2022, and April 5, 2023. The study collected demographic data, including age, gender, and socioeconomic status, as well as information on participants' sleeping habits and any COVID-19 complications they experienced. The findings indicate a significant decline in the productivity of medical staff and doctors, with an average reduction of 23% during the post-COVID-19 period. These results reflect the overall impact observed following the entire course of the COVID-19 pandemic and are not specific to a particular wave. The analysis revealed that older participants experienced a more pronounced decline in productivity, with a mean decrease of 35% compared to younger participants. Female participants, on average, had a 28% decrease in productivity compared to their male counterparts. Moreover, individuals with lower socioeconomic status exhibited a substantial decline in productivity, experiencing an average decrease of 40% compared to those with higher socioeconomic status. Similarly, participants who slept for fewer hours per night had a significant decline in productivity, with an average decrease of 33% compared to those who had sufficient sleep. The machine learning analysis identified age, specialty, COVID-19 complications, socioeconomic status, and sleeping time as crucial predictors of productivity score. The study highlights the significant impact of post-COVID-19 on the productivity of medical staff and doctors in Iraq. The findings can aid healthcare organizations in devising strategies to mitigate the negative consequences of COVID-19 on medical staff and doctors' productivity

This paper describes an experimental investigation of the performance of a two-stage, open loop impedance pump. The results show that, when compared to a single stage open loop impedance pump, the two-stage impedance pump can achieve a significant pressure head and flow rate increment. A pressure head increment of 240 Pa is obtained in the single stage system compared to 480 Pa for the two-stage system. The corresponding flow rates were 5 mL/s and 8 mL/s respectively. This is an indication that impedance pumping system can be scaled up to achieve a variety of pumping assignments

    Tribological investigation of frictional behaviour of mild steel under canola bio-lubricant conditions

    In this study, two stock engine oils were developed using different blends of a vegetable oil (canola oil), mixed with fully synthetic oil (0 %, 20 %, 40 %, 60 %, and 80 % of synthetic oil). The viscosity of the prepared blends was determined at different temperatures (20 ºC – 80 ºC). Tribological experiments were conducted, according to the conditions of the prepared lubricants, to investigate the influence of the newly developed oil on the frictional characteristics of mild steel material against stainless steel subjected to adhesive wear loading. Scanning electron microscopy was used to examine the worn surface of the mild steel. The results revealed that blending the canola oil with synthetic oil increases the viscosity of the lubricants. Moreover, the viscosity of the canola oil and its blends with synthetic oil is controlled by the environmental temperature since increasing the temperature reduces viscosity. The experimental results revealed that the frictional coefficient of the mild steel was dependent on the applied load and velocity rather than the sliding distance. In addition, pure canola oil as a lubricant was able to compete in performance with a blend of 80 % synthetic and 20 % canola oils

    Doctor-Patient Communication A Requisite for Better Medication History Taking: Insight from Sudan

    Despite the awareness of doctors about the significance of obtaining a comprehensive medication history for patients, they often neglect this in their practice, resulting in an incomplete patient medication list. The study aimed to investigate the role of communication skills as a crucial part of optimal pharmacotherapy. An observational, cross-sectional study was carried out at internal medicine department in a tertiary hospital, Wad Medani, Sudan.  The research instrument was a form involved a checklist rating a doctor’s performance during the medical encounters. Among 94 medical doctors, 51% were males and 6.15 (SE) was the average years of experience. About 13% of participants received under-graduation training in communication skills, while 21% had it after post-graduation. Concerning communication skills evaluation, 61% of specialists, 29% of registrars, and 7% of house officers reported an excellent performance. Gender and doctors’ ranking in a medical team had a significant role in communication skills (P-value <0.05) with an overall adjusted R2 of 0.339. Specialists were the most knowledgeable and skillful in obtaining structured medication history; 67% reported an excellent performance. Communication skills had a remarkable impact in getting patient medication history (P-value: <0.05) with an overall adjusted R2 of 0. 763.The study concluded that; gender and doctors’ ranking in the medical team were the main predictors for doctors to be a good communicator. Communication skills have a significant role in medication history taking. There was a gap in knowledge and training in communication skills among internal medicine doctors specifically, “house officers.” This gap negatively contributed to obtaining a comprehensive patient medication history

    In this work, ZnO thin films were grown on sapphire (0001) substrate by Pulsed Laser Deposition using SHG with Q-switched Nd:YAG pulsed laser operation at 532nm in O2 gas ambient 5×10-2 mbar at different substrate temperatures varying from room temperature to 500°C. The influence of the substrate temperature on the structural and morphological properties of the films were investigated using XRD and SEM. As result, at substrate 400°C, a good quality and crystalline films were deposited that exhibits an average grain size (XRD) of 22.42nm with an average grain size (SEM) of 21.31nm

    Experimental Investigation of Jet Impingement Cooling On Ribbed Target Surface

    Experimental investigation of jets impacting at right angleon a flat surfaceis introduced in the present study. Round jet holes of inline arrays arrangements with diameter (5mm) and jet to jet spacing of 4 jet hole diameter are considered. Jet Reynolds numbers of 4000 to 16000 and jet height to diameter ratio (space between the jet plate and target plate) of 2.0 is maintained. The heat transfer model consists of amultiple jet holes, ribbed target plate having back side resistive film. Threetarget models have been considered; model (1) is a clean surface target acting as the baseline case, the model (2) the target surface consists of lateral rib rows and model (3) the target surface consists grids rib arrangement. The ribs height for models (2 and 3) is 0.86 of jet diameter of the triangle shape. The average wall cooling effectiveness and heat transfer coefficients and consequently the Nusselt numbers for each model are estimated. Numerical computations of jets flow field are made.Theresults show that model (3) enhanced both heat transfer coefficients in the target plat inner surface and wall cooling effectiveness in the target plat outer surface greatly,the maximum increments in heat transfer coefficient and wall coolingeffectiveness are 14.5% and 4.5% respectively
