    We present new acrylic monomers derived directly from abundant naturally available terpenes via a facile, green and catalytic approach. These monomers can be polymerised to create new polymers with a wide range of mechanical properties that positions them ideally for application across the commodity and specialty plastics landscape; from packaging, cosmetic and medical, through to composites and coatings. We demonstrate their utility through formation of novel renewable polymer coatings

    La résonance paramagnétique électronique dans l'état excité des centres F dans les halogénures alcalins, a été observée par la méthode du pompage optique saturé. Les facteurs électroniques de Landé de ces états ont été déterminés pour un grand nombre de centres F et Fa. Les données sont interprétées sur la base d'une fonction d'onde très étendue de l'état excité. Sous des conditions expérimentales bien choisies, on observe un signal supplémentaire dans le spectre de résonance paramagnétique qui peut être attribué à un nouvel état dans la configuration relaxée du centre F.Electron spin resonance in the relaxed excited state (RES) of F- and Fa-centres in alkali halides is observed via the change of the electronic groundstate polarization achieved under saturated optical pumping. ESR data on the RES have been measured systematically for a number of crystals. The data are interpreted in terms of a very extended wavefunction of the RES. Under appropriate conditions an additional signal is observed in the RES spectrum that seems to be related to a new state in the relaxed configuration of the F-centre. ESR data of this state are given and other experimental evidence for its existence is discussed

    Since more than ten years, systems of thiols or thioether on gold/silver are known in the case of self-assembled monolayers (SAM). These SAMs are based on the chemical affinity of anchor groups in molecules to the specific surface of electrodes. This leads to specific surface properties. In this research project, a process is developed to produce a new precoating with respect to corrosion protection of iron and low alloyed steel. After synthesis of suitable monomers, SAMs with polymerizable head-groups of thiophene derivatives are brought on iron. Subsequently, it is investigated if a crosslinked monolayer can be synthesized by electropolymerization of head-groups. 3-Thiophene hexyl phosphonic acid (THPA) and hexane phosphonic acids with head-groups of bithiophene (BTHPA and BT-bis-HPA) are synthesized and characterized by nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy. After pretreatments such as cleaning, grinding, degreasing and passivation, SAMs on passivated iron with anchor groups of phosphonic acids are produced. The following electropolymerization of the head-groups of the SAMs on iron is reproducible using bithiophene-hexaphosphonic acids (BTHPS, BT-bis-HPS).
