The Pathways to Work/Incapacity Benefit Reforms pilot was introduced in October 2003 and aims to increase the number of incapacity benefit recipients who move towards and into paid work. The reforms comprise a package of measures, initially introduced in seven Jobcentre Plus districts in England, Scotland and Wales. A further 14 districts are being phased into the pilot from October 2005. This report presents findings from a focused study of Return to Work Credit (RTWC) and is based on qualitative research conducted by the Social Policy Research Unit, the National Centre for Social Research and the Policy Studies Institute in 2005/06. This study is one of several being undertaken to inform the overall evaluation of the Pathways to Work pilots

The society of Muara Dilam, Village Kunto Darussalam District, Rokan Hulu are one of costumary society that have land conflict. In this case, actually the society have land right and ather same right in using the land in their area for their prosperity through together agreement of this costumry society. In fact, the land righ was always be conflict, generally in our country, include at Muara Dilam Village. There fore, this study has purposed to find out, what are the trigger factors of land matter, between the society of Muara Dilam Village and PT Citra Sardela Abadi in 2012. The research methodology was qualitative research, and for the data used primary and secondary data. These data were got from main informen and additional informen. Data collection Technique was used interviewing and documentating.Than it analyzed by giving description about research result. From the research was found characteristic conflict issue. It was began because Establiment Palm Oil Platation that took up some society land. Unclarity of Paying also was one of the main factor in making land conflict between the society Muara Dilam Village and PT Citra Sardela Abadi. This conflict also happened because of involving individual conflict, it was the social and economy disprepancy between the society Muara Dilam Village and PT Citra Sardela Abadi. The Situational conflict was about the lacking involving the Muara Dilam Village society, and this conflict didnt involve regional goverment and Badan Pertanahan Nasional get, also some opinion said because the lack epordination of Rokan Hulu government toward the society.Key words : Trigger Factor Matter, Characteristic Conflict Issue, Involving Individual Conflict, and Situasional

© 2019 The Authors. Journal of Applied Research in Intellectual Disabilities Published by John Wiley & Sons Ltd.Background: People with intellectual disabilities are more likely to experience poor health than the general population and are frequently prescribed multiple medications. Therefore, it is important that people with intellectual disabilities understand their medication and potential adverse effects. Method: A scoping review explored people with intellectual disabilities' knowledge of prescription medications, their risks and how medication understanding can be improved. Results: Ten journal articles were included. People with intellectual disabilities often lacked understanding of their medication, including its name, purpose and when and how to take it. Participants were often confused or unaware of adverse effects associated with their medication. Information was sometimes explained to carers rather than people with intellectual disabilities. Some interventions and accessible information helped to improve knowledge in people with intellectual disabilities. Conclusion: There is a need for accessible and tailored information about medication to be discussed with people with intellectual disabilities in order to meet legal and best practice standards.Peer reviewe

Pathways to Work from Incapacity Benefits: A review of research findings on referral practices and liaison with service providers

This working paper presents a review of research findings on the topic of referrals and working relationships between Jobcentre Plus and other organisations and practitioners helping people with health problems and disabilities. This review was carried out by Katharine Nice from the Social Policy Research Unit, University of York, as an early part of the qualitative study of referral practices in Jobcentre Plus Pathways to Work (DWP Research Report 555). This review was conducted in order to draw together and synthesise what was already known about the process of referring incapacity benefits recipients to specialist service provision. The review draws on a selection of qualitative studies completed earlier in the Pathways evaluation, and other published reports on a range of disability employment services. The review covers numerous topics, and the key findings are drawn together to identify topics and questions which were later explored in an empirical study of referral practices

Radio Pulses along the Galactic Plane

We have surveyed 68 deg^2 along the Galactic Plane for single, dispersed radio pulses. Each of 3027 independent pointings was observed for 68 s using the Arecibo telescope at 430 MHz. Spectra were collected at intervals of 0.5 ms and examined for pulses with duration 0.5 to 8 ms. Such single pulse analysis is the most sensitive method of detecting highly scattered or highly dispersed signals from pulsars with large pulse-to-pulse intensity variations. A total of 36 individual pulses from five previously known pulsars were detected, along with a single pulse not associated with a previously known source. Follow-up observations discovered a pulsar, PSR J1918+08, from which the pulse originated. This pulsar has period 2.130 s and dispersion measure 30 pc cm^-3, and has been seen to emit single pulses with strength up to 8 times the average.Comment: 14 pages, 5 figures, AASTeX, accepted by the Astrophysical Journa

Quark Matter in Neutron Stars: An apercu

    Get PDF
The existence of deconfined quark matter in the superdense interior of neutron stars is a key question that has drawn considerable attention over the past few decades. Quark matter can comprise an arbitrary fraction of the star, from 0 for a pure neutron star to 1 for a pure quark star, depending on the equation of state of matter at high density. From an astrophysical viewpoint, these two extreme cases are generally expected to manifest different observational signatures. An intermediate fraction implies a hybrid star, where the interior consists of mixed or homogeneous phases of quark and nuclear matter, depending on surface and Coulomb energy costs, as well as other finite size and screening effects. In this brief review article, we discuss what we can deduce about quark matter in neutron stars in light of recent exciting developments in neutron star observations. We state the theoretical ideas underlying the equation of state of dense quark matter, including color superconducting quark matter. We also highlight recent advances stemming from re-examination of an old paradigm for the surface structure of quark stars and discuss possible evolutionary scenarios from neutron stars to quark stars, with emphasis on astrophysical observations.Comment: 15 pages, 1 figure.
