    Gravitational waveforms for spinning compact binaries

    The rotation of the bodies and the eccentricity of the orbit have significant effects on the emitted gravitational radiation of binary systems. This work focuses on the evaluation of the gravitational wave polarization states for spinning compact binaries. We consider binaries on eccentric orbits and the spin-orbit interaction up to the 1.5 post-Newtonian order in a way which is independent of the parameterization of the orbit. The equations of motion for angular variables are included. The formal expressions of the polarization states are given with the inclusion of higher order corrections to the waveform

    Maximizing nearest neighbour entanglement in finitely correlated qubit--chains

    We consider translationally invariant states of an infinite one dimensional chain of qubits or spin-1/2 particles. We maximize the entanglement shared by nearest neighbours via a variational approach based on finitely correlated states. We find an upper bound of nearest neighbour concurrence equal to C=0.434095 which is 0.09% away from the bound C_W=0.434467 obtained by a completely different procedure. The obtained state maximizing nearest neighbour entanglement seems to approximate the maximally entangled mixed states (MEMS). Further we investigate in detail several other properties of the so obtained optimal state.Comment: 12 pages, 4 figures, 2nd version minor change

    Control of aversion by glycine-gated GluN1/GluN3A NMDA receptors in the adult medial habenula

    The unconventional N-methyl-d-aspartate (NMDA) receptor subunits GluN3A and GluN3B can, when associated with the other glycine-binding subunit GluN1, generate excitatory conductances purely activated by glycine. However, functional GluN1/GluN3 receptors have not been identified in native adult tissues. We discovered that GluN1/GluN3A receptors are operational in neurons of the mouse adult medial habenula (MHb), an epithalamic area controlling aversive physiological states. In the absence of glycinergic neuronal specializations in the MHb, glial cells tuned neuronal activity via GluN1/GluN3A receptors. Reducing GluN1/GluN3A receptor levels in the MHb prevented place-aversion conditioning. Our study extends the physiological and behavioral implications of glycine by demonstrating its control of negatively valued emotional associations via excitatory glycinergic NMDA receptors

    Probing Spin-Vibronic Dynamics Using Femtosecond X-ray Spectroscopy

    Ultrafast pump-probe spectroscopy within the X-ray regime is now possible owing to the devel- opment of X-ray Free Electrons Lasers (X-FELs) and are opening new opportunities for direct probing the correlated evolution of the nuclei, the electronic and spin degrees of freedom on the femtosecond timescale. In this contribution we use excited state wavepacket dynamics of the photoexcited decay of a new Fe(II) complex, [Fe(bmip)2]2+ (bmip=2,6-bis(3-methyl-imidazole- 1-ylidine)pyridine), to simulate the experimental observables associated with femtosecond Fe K- edge X-ray absorption near-edge structure (XANES) and X-ray emission (XES) spectra. We show how the evolution of the nuclear wavepacket is translated into the experimental observable and the sensitivity of these approaches for following excited state dynamics

    Strict Forest Reserve Research in the Margin of the Carpathians, the Vár-hegy Case-Study

    Sixteen forest reserves are situated in the northern part of Hungary which belongs to the Carpathian region according to EURAC delimitation (Ruffini et al. 2006). These Hungarian forest reserves expand the natural forest remnant/forest reserve net of the Carpathians towards the lower hilly region, representing the deciduous beech and oak forest belts near their lower (xeric) distribution limits. This paper outlines the Hungarian forest reserves belonging to the Carpathian region and the preliminary results of current projects in the Vár-hegy Forest Reserve (Bükk Mts., Hungary) as a case study. The alteration of tree species composition was investigated here based on the reconstruction of forest history in the previous 130 years (management period) and analyses of forest stand inventory. In another project CO2 sequestration changes of these forest stands were modeled since the clear-cutting in the 1880th and carbon stored in the forest ecosystem compartments was estimated. Our results show that the forest reserve stands are presently in a transition state from the managed forest towards a more natural mixed forest with several age-classes

    Effects of clopidogrel in addition to aspirin in patients with acutecoronary syndromes without ST-segment elevation.

    Background: Despite current treatments, patients who have acute coronary syndromes without ST-segment elevation have high rates of major vascular events. We evaluated the efficacy and safety of the antiplatelet agent clopidogrel when given with aspirin in such patients. Methods: We randomly assigned 12,562 patients who had presented within 24 hours after the onset of symptoms to receive clopidogrel (300 mg immediately, followed by 75 mg once daily) (6259 patients) or placebo (6303 patients) in addition to aspirin for 3 to 12 months. Results: The first primary outcome -- a composite of death from cardiovascular causes, nonfatal myocardial infarction, or stroke -- occurred in 9.3 percent of the patients in the clopidogrel group and 11.4 percent of the patients in the placebo group (relative risk with clopidogrel as compared with placebo, 0.80; 95 percent confidence interval, 0.72 to 0.90; P<0.001). The second primary outcome -- the first primary outcome or refractory ischemia -- occurred in 16.5 percent of the patients in the clopidogrel group and 18.8 percent of the patients in the placebo group (relative risk, 0.86, P<0.001). The percentages of patients with in-hospital refractory or severe ischemia, heart failure, and revascularization procedures were also significantly lower with clopidogrel. There were significantly more patients with major bleeding in the clopidogrel group than in the placebo group (3.7 percent vs. 2.7 percent; relative risk, 1.38; P=0.001), but there were not significantly more patients with episodes of life-threatening bleeding (2.1 percent vs. 1.8 percent, P=0.13) or hemorrhagic strokes. Conclusions: The antiplatelet agent clopidogrel has beneficial effects in patients with acute coronary syndromes without ST-segment elevation.     Drug Policy in Hungary: Current Trends and Future Prospects

    The authors consider the theoretical and applied problems of preventing illicit traffic in drugs and psychotropic substances in Hungary in the legal and criminological aspects. The relevance of the study is determined by the fact that the Hungary's third drug strategy expires in 2020 (2013-2020), so a new strategy needs to be developed, but it is not yet known what guidelines it will have, what priorities will be offered to set in it.The study was conducted with a view to considering the legal framework for the prevention of illicit traffic of drugs and psychotropic substances and the problem of its improvement in Hungary. To achieve this goal, the authors analysed statistics on drug use, types and quantity of drugs seized by law enforcement agencies for the last five years. The authors give a description of the drug situation, territorial features of drug use and a multilevel system of measures to counter illegal traffic in drugs and psychotropic substances at the national level. The authors pay special attention to the age and gender characteristics of drug use, which makes it possible to identify the most vulnerable groups, which should be supported by state preventive programs. The authors also analysed data on mortality from drug use and concluded that from 2010 onwards methadone and other non-opiate drugs predominated in death.Based on the results of the study, current trends in drug use in Hungary were summarized. The results obtained are important for the development of an anti-drug strategy and the improvement of legislation, as well as for the prevention of law enforcement agencies, both Hungary and other European countries
