Spin dependent fragmentation function at Belle
The measurement of the so far unknown chiral-odd quark transverse spin
distribution in either semi-inclusive DIS (SIDIS) or inclusive measurements in
pp collisions at RHIC has an additional chiral-odd fragmentation function
appearing in the cross section. These chiral-odd fragmentation functions (FF)
can for example be the so-called Collins FF or the Interference FF. HERMES has
given a first hint that these FFs are nonzero, however in order to measure the
transversity one needs these FFs to be precisely known. We have used 29.0
fb of data collected by the Belle experiment at the KEKB
collider to measure azimuthal asymmetries for different charge combinations of
pion pairs and thus access the Collins FF.Comment: Results presented at the DIS 2006 conference in Tsukuba, Japa
Sector logic implementation for the ATLAS endcap level-1 muon trigger
We present development of the Sector Logic for the ATLAS endcap Level-1 (LVL1) muon trigger. The muon tracks from the interaction point (IP) are bent by the magnetic fields induced by the ATLAS toroidal magnets. The Sector Logic reconstructs three dimensional muon tracks with six levels of transverse momentum (pT) by combining two sets (R-Z and φ-Z) of information from the Thin Gap Chamber (TGC) detectors. Then, it selects two highest pT tracks in each trigger sector. The Sector Logic module is designed in pipelined structure to achieve no-dead-time operation and shorter latency. Look-Up-Tables (LUTs) are used so that any pT threshold level can be set. To achieve these, we adopted SRAM embedded type FPGA devices. The design and its performance are given in this presentation
Scrutinizing LSP Dark Matter at the LHC
We show that LHC experiments might well be able to determine all the
parameters required for a prediction of the present density of thermal LSP
relics from the Big Bang era. If the LSP is an almost pure bino we usually only
need to determine its mass and the mass of the SU(2) singlet sleptons. This
information can be obtained by reconstructing the cascade . The only requirement is that ,
which is true for most of the cosmologically interesting parameter space. If
the LSP has a significant higgsino component, its predicted thermal relic
density is smaller than for an equal--mass bino. We show that in this case
squark decays also produce significant numbers of and
. Reconstructing the corresponding decay cascades then
allows to determine the higgsino component of the LSP
Observation of Radiative Decay
We report the observation of the decay with a
statistical significance of in 78.1 \ifb of data collected by the
Belle experiment at the KEKB collider. This is the first observation
of a flavor-changing radiative decay of a charmed meson. The Cabibbo- and
color-suppressed decays , are also observed for
the first time. We measure branching fractions \br(D^{0} \to \phi \gamma)

Evidence for CP-Violating Asymmetries in B0->pi+pi- Decays and Constraints on the CKM Angle phi2
We present an improved measurement of CP-violating asymmetries in B0 -> pi+
pi- decays based on a 78 fb^-1 data sample collected at the Y(4S) resonance
with the Belle detector at the KEKB asymmetric-energy e+e- collider. We
reconstruct one neutral B meson as a B0 -> pi+ pi- CP eigenstate and identify
the flavor of the accompanying B meson from inclusive properties of its decay
products. We apply an unbinned maximum likelihood fit to the distribution of
the time intervals between the two B meson decay points. The fit yields the
CP-violating asymmetry amplitudes Apipi = +0.77+/-0.27(stat)+/-0.08(syst) and
Spipi = -1.23+/-0.41(stat)+0.08/-0.07(syst), where the statistical
uncertainties are determined from Monte Carlo pseudo-experiments. We obtain
confidence intervals for CP-violating asymmetry parameters Apipi and Spipi
based on a frequentist approach. We rule out the CP-conserving case,
Apipi=Spipi=0, at the 99.93% confidence level. We discuss how these results
constrain the value of the CKM angle phi2.Comment: 26 pages, 13 figures, submitted to Phys. Rev.
