    A Rare Presentation of Crohn's Disease

    Free peritoneal perforation is a rare complication of Crohn's disease with a report of only 100 cases in the literature. It needs an emergency exploration and an unaware general surgeon is confounded in intraoperative decision-making. We present our experience when this rarity struck us in a district hospital and briefly review the guidelines of optimal management of this complication of Crohn's disease

Basically, the family consists of two relationships, husband and wife. Later on, the blood of the two expands into the system of continuous son and daughter. Moreover, all those who live around in families belong to family relationships. When did the system of the family appear in relationships? Research to find an answer to the question is continuing. The family system must have arisen only after the emergence of human beings. Thus, in the poems of Manushyaputran, the study of this article is only a summary of the pattern of affection in family relations and some of the changes that take place in it

    Prickly acacia (Vachellia nilotica subsp. indica), a native multipurpose tree in India, is a weed of National significance, and a target for biological control in Australia. Based on plant genetic and climatic similarities, native range surveys for identifying potential biological control agents for prickly acacia were conducted in India during 2008-2011. In the survey leaf-feeding geometrid, Isturgia disputaria Guenee (syn. Tephrina pulinda), widespread in Tamil Nadu and Karnataka States, was prioritized as a potential biological control agent based on field host range, damage potential and no choice test on non target plant species. Though the field host range study exhibited that V. nilotica ssp. indica and V. nilotica ssp. tomentosa were the primary hosts for successful development of the insect, I. disputaria, replicated no - choice larval feeding and development tests conducted on cut foliage and live plants of nine non-target acacia test plant species in India revealed the larval feeding and development on three of the nine non-target acacia species, V. tortilis, V. planiferons and V. leucophloea in addition to the V. nilotica ssp. indica and V. nilotica ssp. tomentosa. However, the proportion of larvae developing into adults was higher on V. nilotica subsp. indica and V. nilotica subsp. tomentosa, with 90% and 80% of the larvae completing development, respectively. In contrast, the larval mortality was higher on V. tortilis (70%), V. leucophloea (90%) and V. planiferons (70%). The no-choice test results support the earlier host specificity test results of I. disputaria from Pakistan, Kenya and under quarantine in Australia. Contrasting results between field host range and host use pattern under no-choice conditions are discussed

    Computational evaluation of small molecule inhibitors of RGS4 to regulate the dopaminergic control of striatal LTD

    Parkinson’s disease is a neurodegenerative disease which is the result of the degradation of the dopaminergic neurons in the substantia nigra pars compacta, leading to a disregulation of thalamocortical circuits. Traditional treatment involves the use of levodopa which increases the dopamine level in the striatum. There is a need for alternative non-dopamine therapy to prevent the side effects of the conventional drugs used. Recently small molecule inhibitors of RGS have become the prime candidates in studies related to regulating RGS by binding to its allosteric site and thus changing its structure. Through the docking studies we observed that these small molecule modulators of RGS4 make stable complexes with RGS4 when compared to native RGS4. The Gq(alpha)–GS4–rug complexes are less stable. The increase in flexibility of the RGS4–rug complex could be the reason for the inability of the RGS4–rug complex to bind to the G protein. In our docking results, CCG63802 formed the most promising drug as a RGS4 inhibitor as it formed the most stable complex with RGS4 and also formed the least stable complex, Gq(alpha)–RGS4–CCG63802 complex.     The Effectiveness of Engineering Design in Developing Engineering Habits of Mind among Eight Grade Students in Sultanate of Oman

    This research investigates the effect of engineering design on the development of the engineering habits of mind among eighth grade students in the Sultanate of Oman. The study adopted the semi-experimental research design. The study sample had two experimental groups; the first group (23 students) was enrolled in a special program of engineering design; and the second group was a control group (25 students) which had not participated in any engineering design programs. The quantitative results revealed statistically significant differences at the level of significance (  between the performance of students of the two groups in identifying problem habits, optimization and development, and system thinking in favour of the experimental group in the scale of the habits of the engineering mind. However, there were no statistically significant differences between the performance of the two groups in the habits of visualizing, creativity in problem solving, and adaptation. Analysis of qualitative data reached similar findings. Taken together, these findings suggest a set of recommendations, including the integration of engineering design into science curricula for contribution to the development of engineering habits of mind. Further surveyed studies can be conducted to discover the most common engineering habits of mind among students of all stages in the study

    Assessment of ferritin and its association with C - reactive protein and malondialdehyde in acute myocardial infarction

    Background: There is increasing evidence that moderately elevated body iron stores, below levels commonly found in genetic hemochromatosis, may be associated with adverse health outcomes. Ferritin status has been implicated in atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease and hypothesis is that high iron status is associated with increased oxidation of LDL. The main objective of study is to evaluate the ferritin status and its association with C - reactive protein, malondialdehyde and serum lipids in acute myocardial infarction patients compared with healthy volunteers.Methods: Sixty seven acute myocardial infarction (AMI) patients in the age group of 30 to 50 years were selected for this study and 40 healthy age matched subjects were selected as control group. Diagnosis of AMI was made using guidelines of American College of Cardiology and European Society of Cardiology. The comprised group of 67 consecutive patients was divided based on the C - reactive protein (CRP) level into two groups (Group I <5 mg/L and Group II ≥5mg/L). Serum ferritin was assessed by ELISA method, C-reactive protein by turbilatex method and malondialdehyde (MDA) by Thiobarbituric Acid Reactive Substances (TBARS) method. Routine investigations were analysed by ERBA EM-360 fully automated analyzer.Results: The mean serum ferritin level was significantly increased in AMI patient groups compared with controls. The group II patients showed significantly increased serum ferritin levels compared to group I. In both the groups ferritin levels positively correlated with CRP and malondialdehyde. In group II serum ferritin levels showed positive correlation with serum Cholesterol, TGL, LDL and negative correlation with and HDL.  In group I serum ferritin levels showed positive correlation with triglycerides and LDL and there was no statistical significant correlation with HDL and total cholesterol.Conclusions: Iron, an essential dietary constituent is now considered as a pro oxidant. Higher levels of ferritin, seems to be a strong risk factor for AMI. Regular monitoring of serum ferritin level can be useful in reducing cardiovascular morbidity and mortality.
