    Get PDF
The Yangtze River Delta (YRD) Economic Circle has experienced a long period of development. From the original Shanghai Economic Zone in 1983, altogether 10 cities encompassing Suzhou, Wuxi, Changzhou, Nantong and Hangzhou, Jiaxing, Huzhou, Ningbo and Shaoxing surrounding the Shanghai Core, to the final stage in 2003 when the latest leaguer, Taizhou of Zhejiang Province joined the family, the YRD has been experiencing a long time of expansion. Focusing on the aggregation, see Table 1, the YRD attracted almost half the FDI in the nationwide scale, over 1/3 export and import, around 6 percent of the fixed investment and produced nearly 1/5 of the GDP. We should say this was, and is a miracle in the river of regional economic growth

AbstractArterial medial calcification (AMC) is prevalent in patients with chronic kidney disease (CKD) and contributes to elevated risk of cardiovascular events and mortality. Vascular smooth muscle cells (VSMCs) to osteogenic transdifferentiation (VOT) in a high-phosphate environment is involved in the pathogenesis of AMC in CKD. WNT/β-catenin signaling is indicated to play a crucial role in osteogenesis via promoting Runx2 expression in osteoprogenitor cells, however, its role in Runx2 regulation and VOT remains incompletely clarified. In this study, Runx2 was induced and β-catenin was activated by high-phosphate in VSMCs. Two forms of active β-catenin, dephosphorylated on Ser37/Thr41 and phosphorylated on Ser675 sites, were upregulated by high-phosphate. Activation of β-catenin, through ectopic expression of stabilized β-catenin, inhibition of GSK-3β, or WNT-3A protein, induced Runx2 expression, whereas blockade of WNT/β-catenin signaling with Porcupine (PORCN) inhibitor or Dickkopf-1 (DKK1) protein inhibited Runx2 induction by high-phosphate. WNT-3A promoted osteocalcin expression and calcium deposition in VSMCs, whereas DKK1 ameliorated calcification of VSMCs induced by high-phosphate. Two functional T cell factor (TCF)/lymphoid enhancer-binding factor binding sites were identified in the promoter region of Runx2 gene in VSMCs, which interacted with TCF upon β-catenin activation. Site-directed mutation of each of them attenuated Runx2 response to β-catenin, and deletion or destruction of both of them completely abolished this responsiveness. In the aortic tunica media of rats with chronic renal failure, followed by AMC, Runx2 and β-catenin was induced, and the Runx2 mRNA level was positively associated with the abundance of phosphorylated β-catenin (Ser675). Collectively, our study suggested that high-phosphate may activate WNT/β-catenin signaling through different pathways, and the activated WNT/β-catenin signaling, through direct downstream target Runx2, could play an important role in promoting VOT and AMC

In Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), treatment based on ZHENG (also called TCM syndrome and pattern) differentiation has been applied for about 3 thousand years, while there are some difficulties to communicate with western medicine. In the present work, metabonomic methods were utilized to differentiate ZHENG types and evaluate the therapeutic efficiency of Fuzhenghuayu (FZHY) tablet in hepatitis-B-caused cirrhosis (HBC). Urine samples of 12 healthy volunteers (control group, CG) and 31 HBC patients (HBCG) were analyzed by gas chromatography mass spectrometry (GC/MS) and multivariate statistical analysis. The significantly changed metabolites between CG and HBCG were selected by PLS-DA loading plot analysis. Moreover, 4 ZHENGs were differentiated mutually, suggesting that there was urine metabolic material basis in ZHENG differentiation. The efficiency of FZHY tablet on subjects with spleen deficiency with dampness encumbrance syndrome (SDDES) and liver-kidney yin deficiency syndrome (LKYDS) was better than that of other syndromes. The efficiency of FZHY treatment based on ZHENG differentiation indicated that accurately ZHENG differentiating could guide the appropriate TCM treatment in HBC

Exploration of Macro-Micro Biomarkers for Dampness-Heat Syndrome Differentiation in Different Diseases

    Get PDF
Increased attention is being paid to traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) as a complementary and alternative medicine to provide an effective approach for personalized diagnosis and clinical treatment. TMC performs treatment based on differentiation of TCM syndrome (ZHENG), which may identify special phenotypes by symptoms and signs of patients even if they are in different diseases. There has, however, been skepticism and criticism because syndrome classification only depends on observation, knowledge, and clinical experience of TCM practitioners, which lacks objectivity and repeatability. In order to transform syndrome classification into mainstream medicine, we introduce a macro-micro approach that combines symptoms, clinical indicators, and metabolites. The present paper explores the macro-micro biomarkers of dampness-heat syndrome in chronic hepatitis B and nonalcoholic fatty liver patients, which could provide the basis for developing a possible population-screening tool for selecting target individuals and creating an evaluation index for personalized treatment

AbstractFrom the aspects of shale gas resource condition, main exploration and development progress, important breakthrough in key technologies and equipment, this paper systematically summarized and analyzed current situation of shale gas development in China and pointed out five big challenges such as misunderstandings, lower implementation degree and higher economic uncertainty of shale gas resource, and still no breakthrough in exploration and development core technologies and equipment for shale gas buried depth more than 3500 m, higher cost and other non-technical factors that restrict the development pace. Aiming at the above challenges, we put forward five suggestions to promote the shale gas development in China: (1) Make strategies and set goals according to our national conditions and exploration and development stages. That is, make sure to realize shale gas annual production of 20 × 109 m3, and strives to reach 30 × 109 m3. (2) Attach importance to the research of accumulation and enrichment geological theory and exploration & development key engineering technologies for lower production and lower pressure marine shale gas reservoir, and at the same time orderly promote the construction of non-marine shale gas exploration & development demonstration areas. (3) The government should introduce further policies and set special innovation funds to support the companies to carry out research and development of related technologies and equipment, especially to strengthen the research and development of technology, equipment and process for shale gas bellow 3500 m in order to achieve breakthrough in deep shale gas. (4) Continue to promote the geological theory, innovation in technology and management, and strengthen cost control on drilling, fracturing and the whole process in order to realize efficient, economic and scale development of China's shale gas. (5) Reform the mining rights management system, establish information platform of shale gas exploration and development data, and correctly guide the non-oil and gas companies to participate in shale gas exploration and development

With the hope to provide an effective approach for personalized diagnosis and treatment clinically, traditional chinese medicine (TCM) is being paid increasing attention as a complementary and alternative medicine. It performs treatment based on ZHENG (TCM syndrome) classification, which could be identified clinical special phenotypes by symptoms and signs of patients even if they have a different disease. However, it caused controversy because ZHENG classification only depends on observation, knowledge, and clinical experience of TCM practitioners, which lacks objectivity and repeatability. Although researchers and scientists of TCM have done some work with a lot of beneficial methods, the results could not reach satisfactory with the shortcomings of generalizing the entire state of the body or ignoring the patients' feelings. By total summary, mining, and integration of existing researches, the present paper attempts to introduce a novel macro-microconcept of ZHENG-omics, with the prospect of bright future in providing an objective and repeatable approach for Chinese personalized medicine in an effective way. In this paper, we give the brief introduction and preliminary validation, and discuss strategies and system-oriented technologies for achieving this goal

Landau level splitting in Cd3As2 under high magnetic fields

Three-dimensional topological Dirac semimetals (TDSs) are a new kind of Dirac materials that exhibit linear energy dispersion in the bulk and can be viewed as three-dimensional graphene. It has been proposed that TDSs can be driven to other exotic phases like Weyl semimetals, topological insulators and topological superconductors by breaking certain symmetries. Here we report the first transport experiment on Landau level splitting in TDS Cd3As2 single crystals under high magnetic fields, suggesting the removal of spin degeneracy by breaking time reversal symmetry. The detected Berry phase develops an evident angular dependence and possesses a crossover from nontrivial to trivial state under high magnetic fields, a strong hint for a fierce competition between the orbit-coupled field strength and the field-generated mass term. Our results unveil the important role of symmetry breaking in TDSs and further demonstrate a feasible path to generate a Weyl semimetal phase by breaking time reversal symmetry.Comment: 31 page
