    Solution-processed blue/deep blue and white phosphorescent organic light emitting diodes (PhOLEDs) hosted by a polysiloxane derivative with pendant mCP (1, 3-bis(9-carbazolyl)benzene)

    The synthesis and characterization is reported of an efficient polysiloxane derivative containing the 1,3-bis(9-carbazolyl)benzene (mCP) moiety as a pendant unit on the polysiloxane backbone. In comparison with mCP, the mCP-polysiloxane hybrid (PmCPSi) has significantly improved thermal and morphological stabilities with a high decomposition temperature (Td = 523 °C) and glass transition temperature (Tg = 194 °C). The silicon–oxygen linkage of PmCPSi prevents intermolecular π-stacking and ensures a high triplet energy level (ET = 3.0 eV). Using PmCPSi as a host, blue phosphorescent organic light emitting devices (PhOLEDs) effectively confine triplet excitons, with efficient energy transfer to the guest emitter and a relatively low turn-on voltage of 5.8 V. A maximum external quantum efficiency of 9.24% and maximum current efficiency of 18.93 cd/A are obtained. These values are higher than for directly analogous poly(vinylcarbazole) (PVK) based devices (6.76%, 12.29 cd/A). Good color stability over a range of operating voltages is observed. A two-component “warm-white” device with a maximum current efficiency of 10.4 cd/A is obtained using a blend of blue and orange phosphorescent emitters as dopants in PmCPSi host. These results demonstrate that well-designed polysiloxane derivatives are highly efficient hosts suitable for low-cost solution-processed PhOLEDs

    Boundary Control of a Flexible Manipulator Based on a High Order Disturbance Observer with Input Saturation

    This paper studies a new boundary control strategy for a flexible manipulator subject to unknown fast time-varying disturbances. The flexible manipulator essentially is an infinite dimensional continuum. Hence, a continuous function of space and time can be employed to describe the position of such a distributed parameter structure, the motion of which can be described by partial differential equations (PDEs). To cope with fast time-varying external disturbances, a high order disturbance observer is adopted. A control strategy based on such a disturbance observer is proposed for the rest-rest maneuvering of the flexible manipulator. Moreover, a smooth hyperbolic function is included in the controller to satisfy the requirement of input saturation. The stability of the boundary control is analyzed using LaSalle’s invariance principle. Finally, the performance of the presented boundary controller is verified through comparison with that of employing a constant disturbance observer via numerical simulations

    The effect and safety of anacetrapib in the treatment of dyslipidemia: a systematic review and meta-analysis

    <p><b>Background</b>: Cardiovascular disease (CVD) is the major cause of morbidity and mortality worldwide. Anacetrapib may be a new treatment option that has a cardiovascular benefit for the management of dyslipidemia.</p> <p><b>Objective</b>: The aim of our current study was to perform a systematic review and meta-analysis of all randomized controlled trials (RCTs) assessing the effect and safety of anacetrapib in the treatment of dyslipidemia.</p> <p><b>Methods</b>: We systematically searched PubMed, Embase, and Cochrane Library database from their inception to 5 October 2017, with the terms: ‘anacetrapib’ and ‘placebo’. From 287 initial citations, 10 studies including 34781 patients with dyslipidemia were included in the final systematic review and meta-analysis.</p> <p><b>Results</b>: Pooled results showed that anacetrapib significantly increased high density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-C) [weighted mean differences (WMD) 53.07, 95% confidence interval (95% CI) 46.79 to 59.36] and apolipoprotein AI (ApoAI) (WMD 53.44, 95% CI 45.72 to 61.16). Our study also showed that anacetrapib significantly reduced low density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C) (WMD −32.99; 95% CI −37.13 to −28.86), Non-HDL-C (WMD −39.19; 95% CI −52.22 to −26.16), triglycerides (TG) (WMD −9.97; 95% CI −10.54 to −9.41), apolipoprotein B (ApoB) (WMD −22.55; 95% CI −28.56 to −16.54) and lipoprotein a [LP(a)] (WMD −13.35; 95% CI −18.31 to −8.39). Our results demonstrated that there was no significant difference in all the following adverse events between the anacetrapib group and placebo group: [hepato-toxicity (OR 0.90, 95% CI: 0.75 to 1.07); musculoskeletal injury (OR 1.01, 95% CI: 0.88 to 1.15); drug-related adverse event (OR 1.00, 95% CI: 0.96 to 1.05); drug-related withdrawn (OR 1.01, 95% CI: 0.95 to 1.08)].</p> <p><b>Conclusions</b>: Although further studies are needed, our findings clearly offer support to the use of anacetrapib in the clinical management of patients with dyslipidemia.</p

    Endoscopic excision versus radical nephroureterectomy for non-muscle invasive upper tract urothelial carcinoma: A population-based large cohort study

    Background: As an important kidney-sparing treatment for upper urothelial carcinoma (UTUC), whether endoscopic excision can be performed without sacrificing oncologic outcomes remains indefinite. This study aimed to investigate the prevalence and efficacy of endoscopic excision, in patients with non-muscle invasive UTUC (NMIUTUC) and compare them to those of radical nephroureterectomy (RNU). Methods: Using the Surveillance, Epidemiology, and End Results database, we reviewed 4347 cases with NMIUTUC (cTis/Ta/T1-N0-M0,≤ 5.0 cm) between 2004 and 2020. Surgical treatment modalities included endoscopic excision and RNU. Propensity score matching analysis was used to minimize the selection bias between endoscopic excision and RNU, selecting 1:1 matched patients in the two group. Results: A total of 794 patients with NMIUTUC were included after matching (397:397). Patients who underwent endoscopic excision had worse survival outcomes compared with those of patients who underwent RNU (5-year OS: 65.3 % vs. 80.3 %, p < 0.0001; 5-year DSS: 83.2 % vs. 94.0 %, p = 0.00021). After stratification by anatomical sites, the effect of endoscopic excision for NMI renal pelvis cancer was worse than RNU (5-year OS, 62.9 % vs. 82.8 %; 5-year DSS, 78.8 % vs. 91.6 %), while in NMI ureteral cancer, there is no statistically significant difference in OS and DSS between endoscopic excision and RNU. Further stratification according to tumor grade revealed equivalent tumor control effects of endoscopic excision and RNU in low-grade NMI ureteral cancer (5-year OS: 67.7 % vs. 72.5 %, p = 0.23; 5-year DSS: 87.2 % vs. 93.1 %, p = 0.17); while for renal pelvis tumor and high-grade ureteral tumor, endoscopic excision was related with significantly inferior prognosis. Conclusions: Only for low-grade NMI ureteral cancer, endoscopic excision and RNU are oncologically equivalent, indicating that endoscopic excision might be an effective option for low-grade NMI ureteral cancer. This result needs to be further verified in randomized controlled trials

    Broadband, Polarization-Sensitive, and Self-Powered High-Performance Photodetection of Hetero-Integrated MoS2 on Lithium Niobate

    High-performance photodetectors hold promising potential in optical communication and imaging systems. However, conventional counterparts are suffering narrow detection range, high power consumption, and poor polarization sensitivity. Characteristics originating from switchable polarization in ferroelectrics can be used to optimize the photo-to-electric procedure and improve the photodetection performance. In this regard, we constructed a configuration by integrating 2-dimensional molybdenum disulfide (MoS2) with ferroelectric lithium niobate (LiNbO3), resulting in the MoS2/LiNbO3 heterostructured photodetector. Benefiting from the pyroelectric effect of LiNbO3, the limitation of bandgap on the detection range can be broken, thus broadening the response band of the detector to 365 to 1,064 nm, as well as enabling the self-powered characteristic. Meanwhile, high carrier mobility and decent light absorbance of MoS2 introduce robust light-matter interactions with the underlying LiNbO3, leading to ultrafast rise/fall times of ≈150 μs/250 μs and switching ratios of up to ≈190. Moreover, the highest responsivity, specific detectivity, and external quantum efficiency achieved were 17.3 A·W−1, 4.3 × 1011 Jones, and 4,645.78%, respectively. Furthermore, because of the anisotropy of the spontaneous-polarized LiNbO3 substrate, the photocurrent of the device achieved a dichroic ratio of 7.42, comparing favorably to most MoS2-based photodetectors.     Clinical features and risk factors for severe inpatients with COVID-19: A retrospective study in China.

    BackgroundA worldwide outbreak of coronavirus disease (COVID-19), since 2019, has brought a disaster to people all over the world. Many researchers carried out clinical epidemiological studies on patients with COVID-19 previously, but risk factors for patients with different levels of severity are still unclear.Methods562 patients with laboratory-confirmed COVID-19 from 12 hospitals in China were included in this retrospective study. Related clinical information, therapies, and imaging data were extracted from electronic medical records and compared between patients with severe and non-severe status. We explored the risk factors associated with different severity of COVID-19 patients by logistic regression methods.ResultsBased on the guideline we cited, 509 patients were classified as non-severe and 53 were severe. The age range of whom was 5-87 years, with a median age of 47 (IQR 35.0-57.0). And the elderly patients (older than 60 years old) in non-severe group were more likely to suffer from fever and asthma, accompanied by higher level of D-dimer, red blood cell distribution width and low-density lipoprotein. Furthermore, we found that the liver and kidney function of male patients was worse than that of female patients in both severe and non-severe groups with different age levels, while the severe females had faster ESR and lower inflammatory markers. Of major laboratory markers in non-severe cases, baseline albumin and the lymphocyte percentage were higher, while the white blood cell and the neutrophil count were lower. In addition, severe patients were more likely to be accompanied by an increase in cystatin C, mean hemoglobin level and a decrease in oxygen saturation. Besides that, advanced age and indicators such as count of white blood cell, glucose were proved to be the most common risk factors preventing COVID-19 patients from aggravating.ConclusionThe potential risk factors found in our study have shown great significance to prevent COVID-19 patients from aggravating and turning to critical cases during treatment. Meanwhile, focusing on gender and age factors in groups with different severity of COVID-19, and paying more attention to specific clinical symptoms and characteristics, could improve efficacy of personalized intervention to treat COVID-19 effectively

    Risk Factors in Patients with Diabetes Hospitalized for COVID-19: Findings from a Multicenter Retrospective Study

    Background and Purpose. Diabetes is common in COVID-19 patients and associated with unfavorable outcomes. We aimed to describe the characteristics and identify the risk factors for COVID-19 patients complicated with diabetes. Methods. In this multicenter retrospective study, patients with COVID-19 in China were included and classified into two groups according to whether they were complicated with diabetes or not. Demographic symptoms and laboratory data were extracted from medical records. Univariable and multivariable logistic regression methods were used to explore the risk factors. Results. 538 COVID-19 patients were finally included in this study, of whom 492 were nondiabetes and 46 were diabetes. The median age was 47 years (IQR 35.0-56.0). And the elderly patients with diabetes were more likely to have dry cough, and the alanine aminotransferase, lactate dehydrogenase, Ca, and mean hemoglobin recovery rate were higher than the other groups. Furthermore, we also found the liver and kidney function of male patients was worse than that of female patients, while female cases should be paid more attention to the occurrence of bleeding and electrolyte disorders. Moreover, advance age, blood glucose, gender, prothrombin time, and total cholesterol could be considered as risk factors for COVID-19 patients with diabetes through the multivariable logistic regression model in our study. Conclusion. The potential risk factors found in our study showed a major piece of the complex puzzle linking diabetes and COVID-19 infection. Meanwhile, focusing on gender and age factors in COVID-19 patients with or without diabetes, specific clinical characteristics, and risk factors should be paid more attention by clinicians to figure out a targeted intervention to improve clinical efficacy worldwide
