    Implementation of an integrated quality assurance program for CT-TPS process

    Systematic constancy and accuracy of a treatment planning system (TPS) are crucial for the entire radiation treatment planning process (TPP). The Quality Assurance (QA) of individual components does not necessarily lead to satisfying performance of the whole process due to the possible errors introduced by the data transfer process between components and other fluctuations. However, most of current QA for TPS is confined to the treatment planning computers. In this study, a time efficient and integrated CT-TPS QA procedure is presented, which starts at the beginning of the TPS input --- Computer Tomograhpy (CT). The whole QA procedure is based on the concept of simulating a real patient treatment. Following the CT scan of a head phantom with geometrical objects, a set of reference treatment plans for each accelerator, with all energy beams included, were established. Whenever TPS QA is necessary, the same procedure is repeated and a QA plan is produced. Through the comparison of QA plan with the reference plan, major systematic errors can be found easily and quickly. This method was also applied to VariSeed and PLATO Brachytherapy treatment planning systems. Moreover, if any error is detected in the system, TPS is broken into several parts and individual tests are also set up

    Attitudes and Behavioral Response Toward Key Tobacco Control Measures from the FCTC among Chinese Urban Residents

    BACKGROUND. The Chinese National People's Congress ratified the WHO Framework Convention on Tobacco Control (FCTC) on 27 August 2005, signaling China's commitment to implement tobacco control policies and legislation consistent with the treaty. This study was designed to examine attitudes towards four WHO FCTC measures among Chinese urban residents. METHODS. In a cross-sectional design study, survey data were collected from two Chinese urban cities involving a sample of 3,003 residents aged 15 years or older. Through a face-to-face interview, respondents were asked about attitudes toward four tobacco control measures developed by the WHO FCTC. Data on the four dependent measures were analyzed using multivariate logistic regression analyses. Using descriptive statistics, potential change in smoking behavior that smokers might make in response to increasing cigarette prices is also reported. RESULTS. 81.8% of the respondents in the study sample supported banning smoking in public places, 68.8% favored increasing the cigarette tax, 85.1% supported health warnings on cigarette packages, and 85.7% favored banning tobacco advertising. The likelihood to support these measures was associated with gender, educational level, and personal income. Smokers were less likely to support these measures than non-smokers, with decreased support expressed by daily smokers compared to occasional smokers, and heavy smokers compared to light smokers. The proportion of switching to cheaper cigarette brands, decreasing smoking, and quitting smoking altogether with increased cigarette prices were 29.1%, 30.90% and 40.0% for occasional smokers, respectively; and 30.8%, 32.7% and 36.5% for daily smokers, respectively. CONCLUSION. Results from this study indicate strong public support in key WHO FCTC measures and that increases in cigarette price may reduce tobacco consumption among Chinese urban residents. Findings from this study have implications with respect to policymaking and legislation for tobacco control in China

    X-ray absorption spectra of graphene and graphene oxide by full-potential multiple scattering calculations with self-consistent charge density

    International audienceThe x-ray absorption near-edge structure of graphene, graphene oxide, and diamond is studied by the recently developed real-space full potential multiple scattering (FPMS) theory with space-filling cells. It is shown how accurate potentials for FPMS can be generated from self-consistent charge densities obtained with other schemes, especially the projector augmented wave method. Compared to standard multiple scattering calculations in the muffin-tin approximation, FPMS gives much better agreement with experiment. The effects of various structural modifications on the graphene spectra are well reproduced. (1) Stacking of graphene layers increases the peak intensity in the higher energy region. (2) The spectrum of the C atom located at the edge of a graphene sheet shows a prominent pre-edge structure. (3) Adsorption of oxygen gives rise to the so-called interlayer-state peak. Moreover, O K-edge spectra of graphene oxide are calculated for three types of bonding, C-OH, C-O-C, and C-O, and the proportions of these bondings at 800∘C are deduced by fitting them to the experimental spectru

    Leveraging Label Information for Multimodal Emotion Recognition

    Multimodal emotion recognition (MER) aims to detect the emotional status of a given expression by combining the speech and text information. Intuitively, label information should be capable of helping the model locate the salient tokens/frames relevant to the specific emotion, which finally facilitates the MER task. Inspired by this, we propose a novel approach for MER by leveraging label information. Specifically, we first obtain the representative label embeddings for both text and speech modalities, then learn the label-enhanced text/speech representations for each utterance via label-token and label-frame interactions. Finally, we devise a novel label-guided attentive fusion module to fuse the label-aware text and speech representations for emotion classification. Extensive experiments were conducted on the public IEMOCAP dataset, and experimental results demonstrate that our proposed approach outperforms existing baselines and achieves new state-of-the-art performance.Comment: Accepted by Interspeech 202

    The dynamic effects of maternal high-calorie diet on glycolipid metabolism and gut microbiota from weaning to adulthood in offspring mice

    Dysbiosis of gut microbiota can contribute to the progression of diabetes and obesity. Previous studies have shown that maternal high-fat (HF) diet during the perinatal period can alter the microbiota and induce metabolic disorders at weaning. However, whether dysbiosis of gut microbiota and metabolism could be recovered by a normal diet after weaning and the dynamic changes of gut microbiota have not been fully studied. In this study, C57BL/6J female mice were fed with a normal chow (NC) or HF diet for 4 weeks preconception, during gestation, and until pup weaning. After weaning, male offspring were fed with an NC diet until 9 weeks of age. The microbiota of offspring at weaning and 9 weeks of age was collected for 16S rRNA gene amplicon sequencing. We found that dams fed with an HF diet showed glucose intolerance after lactation. Compared with the offspring from NC dams, the offspring from HF dams exhibited a higher body weight, hyperglycemia, glucose intolerance, hyperinsulinemia, hypercholesterolemia, and leptin resistance and lower adiponectin at weaning. Fecal analysis indicated altered microbiota composition between the offspring of the two groups. The decrease in favorable bacteria (such as norank f Bacteroidales S24-7 group) and increase in unfavorable bacteria (such as Lachnoclostridium and Desulfovibrio) were strongly associated with a disturbance of glucose and lipid metabolism. After 6 weeks of normal diet, no difference in body weight, glucose, and lipid profiles was observed between the offspring of the two groups. However, the microbiota composition of offspring in the HF group was still different from that in the NC group, and microbiota diversity was lower in offspring of the HF group. The abundance of Lactobacillus was lower in the offspring of the HF group. In conclusion, a maternal HF diet can induce metabolic homeostasis and gut microbiota disturbance in offspring at weaning. Gut microbiota dysbiosis can persist into adulthood in the offspring, which might have a role in the promotion of susceptibility to obesity and diabetes in the later life of the offspring
