    Age-related decrease of miRNA-92a levels in human CD8+ T-cells correlates with a reduction of naïve T lymphocytes

    MicroRNA (miR)-17-92a expression plays a crucial role in lymphocyte ontogeny. We therefore set out to determine miR-92a expression levels in peripheral blood lymphocytes from healthy subjects to ascertain any association between these levels and ageing. We found a positive correlation between the miR-92a expression level and the percentages of RO-CD8+CD27+ (P = 0.0046) and CD3+CD8+CD62L+ (P = 0.0011). This suggests that the majority of miR-92a of CD8+ T cells is derived from naïve cells, and the miR-92a expression level in CD8+ T cells declines progressively with age. These results indicate that the age-related attrition of naïve T cells is linked to a reduction of miR-92a in human T -lymphocytes. Therefore, we should careful attention when evaluating human miRNA levels in T lymphocytes to use normal control values

    Background : The carotid plaque vulnerability is related to myocardial and cerebral infarction. We intended to develop an imaging system which enables to visualize tissue characteristics in the carotid plaques based on ultrasound integrated backscatter(IB). And to test its clinical efficacy, effect of the statin therapy on the plaques was evaluated with our software. Methods and Results : Carotid ultrasound examination was performed and ultrasonographic RAW data of the plaques were obtained from8patients undergoing carotid artery endarterectomy. Tissue characteristics in the plaques of resected examples were compared with preoperative ultrasonic images and the tissue IB values corresponding to the specimens were determined for developing our imaging system. Using this system, Color-coded maps of plaques in the three patients were constructed before and after lipid lowing therapy. We could demonstrate that lipid fraction in each plaque decreased and fibrous or calcification fraction increased in the follow-up study. Conclusions : Changes in histology of carotid plaques by statin could visualized with our imaging system. This technique may become a useful tool for the management of atherosclerosis

The Department of Nursing, Aino University is currently divided into the five areas and further into 12 fields.     予防接種により感染予防が可能な小児期感染症(麻疹、風疹、水痘、ムンプスの4疾患)について、看護学生に対する抗体価検査法の妥当性を得るために、個人の3年間の縦断調査結果を分析した。麻疹(HI法、陰性<8≦陽性)とムンプス(HI法、陰性<8≦陽性)の抗体測定法では、予防接種後の抗体陽転率が82.1%、45.2%であった。風疹(HI法、陰性<8≦陽性)、水痘(EIA法、陰性<2.0≦陽性)に関する現行の抗体測定法では、少数例であったが予防接種後は全員が陽転した。The purpose of this paper is to analyze the results of three&#8209;year longitudinal research on nursing students in order to examine the validity of antibody testing in respects to childhood infections (measles, rubella, chickenpox and mumps) which are preventable by means of vaccination. Measles (HI method, Negative<8≦Positive) and mumps (HI method, Negative<8≦Positive) respectively showed 82.1% and 45.2% a positive conversion ratio of antibody after vaccination. In a few cases, checked by using the current antibody testing, both rubella (HI method, Negative<8≦Positive) and chickenpox (EIA method, Negative<2.0≦Positive) resulted in 100% positive conversion ratio after vaccination

    Mercury content of copepods (Crustacea) collected from the Antarctic Sea

    Inorganic and methylmercury in copepods collected from 9 stations in the Antarctic Sea in December 1985 and February 1986 was measured. There was considerable variation of inorganic mercury in copepods at all stations while inorganic mercury in copepods from deeper (bottom) waters was higher than that from surface waters. This result indicates that the inorganic mercury concentrated in the copepods might have been derived from bottom sediments and/or bottom waters. On the contrary, there is little regional or vertical difference in methylmercury content of copepods which was generally low. Its value is considered to be standard value in sea areas expected to be non-polluted from human activities. The mercury content (mean value) in zooplankton collected from various sea areas was compared with each other. The value of total mercury in the Antarctic Sea (recorded in the present study) was about the same as that in Yatsushiro-kai adjacent to polluted area and was higher than those in the other non-polluted sea areas, except the East Indian Ocean (off Java) affected by active submarine volcanos
