Culture teaching in EFL through computer/critical thinking
The purpose of this project is to develop computer-assisted language learning (CALL) lesson plans using the Internet and to offer an example for academic senior high school teachers in South Korea of exemplary treatment of cultural topics that promote critical thinking and incorporate crosscultural understanding based on cooperative learning
Why I Am Worried about My Post PhD-degree Life – A Commentary
Public health is an area where we will always need professionally-prepared people, but despite desperate needs in higher education, some soon-to-graduate PhD students are concerned that there might not be a place for them. Furthermore, some are concerned about balancing school, work, and family life. Perhaps now more than ever public health professional programs and schools need to devote resources toward career counseling and job placement
Preparation and characterization of organofunctional sol-gel materials and their application in toxic metal separation
Inorganic-organic hybrid SiOz sol-gels anchored with amino (NHz-CHzCHz-NH-, TMSen, and -NH-CH2CH2-NH-, Bis-TMSen) and mercapto (HS-) ligands have been studied as new sorbents for heavy metal (e. g., Cu2+, Hg”, Cd2+, Zn2+, and Ni2+) separation. The TMSen—anchored gels were found to be selective for Cu” removal in the presence of Cd2+ and Zn”. In comparison, mercapto-anchored gels remove both Cu2+ and Cd2+ from a mixture of Cu”, Cd2+ and Zn”. These ligand-anchored materials, which were easily prepared fi\u27om off-the-shelf chemicals in ca. 1 hr, were hydrophilic and thus showed fast kinetics of metal uptake and removal (from the gels) in aqueous solutions. The ligand-anchored sol gels loaded with metal ions were regenerated with acid, and the materials could then be used in subsequent metal removal cycles. The effect of the reaction conditions [catalysts, ligand/Si(OMe)4 ratios, curing temperatures, and surfactant existence] on sol-gel properties and performance were investigated. In addition, the kinetics of Cu2+ uptake and removal by these ligand-anchored sol-gel materials were studied

Dependence of drop speed on nozzle diameter, viscosity and drive amplitude in drop-on-demand ink-jet printing
Results of recent experiments and numerical simulations are presented, which have been used to establish empirical rules for
the dependence of drop speed on nozzle diameter and drive amplitude for Newtonian and non-Newtonian fluids printed with a
range of different ink-jet print-head technologies. Experiments were carried out with Xaar, MicroFab and Spectra Dimatix print heads and with solutions of polystyrene in diethyl phthalate as model fluids. These results are compared with
predictions from recent numerical codes developed by collaborators in the University of Leeds, and from simple models for drop-on-demand fluid jetting resulting from physical law
The Investigation of Product Involvement in Shopping Behaviors among Male College Students
We investigated the clothing shopping behaviors of male college students. This study is significant because there is limited published research on the shopping behavior of male college students in the area of two correlative product involvement and store type and yet, there is a large increase in market share of male apparel products. Male college students (n=285) were surveyed via questionnaire. MANOVA and ANOVA were used to analyze the data. This research revealed that male college students are highly concerned about their physical appearance and clothing. The findings of this study demonstrate that male college students have unique shopping behaviors determined by the levels of the product involvement. The high level of the product involvement strongly influences their interests in brand commitment, shopping orientations, information sources, product attributes, and retail formats such as department stores, specialty stores, discount stores, catalog or mailing order, and internet.
Relevance to Marketing Educators, Researchers and/or Practitioners – This research paper discusses apparel shopping behaviors of the male college students. The information is useful for marketing educators, retailers, researchers, and practitioners because it will assist them in developing accurate future market strategies and to improve current ones to meet the needs of the male college students segment
Supersymmetric Clockwork Axion Model and Axino Dark Matter
Implications of supersymmetrizing the clockwork axions are studied.
Supersymmetry ensures that the saxions and axinos have the same pattern of the
coupling hierarchy as the clockwork axions. If we assume supersymmetry breaking
is universal over the clockwork sites, the coupling structure is preserved,
while the mass orderings of the saxions and axinos can differ depending on the
supersymmetry breaking scale. While the massive saxions and axions quickly
decay, the lightest axino can be stable and thus a dark matter candidate. The
relic abundance of the axino dark matter from thermal production is mostly
determined by decays of the heavier axinos in the normal mass ordering. This
exponentially enhances the thermal yield compared to the conventional axino
scenarios. Some cosmological issues are discussed.Comment: 9 pages; v2: added comments about conditions to get the clockwork
