TPA: Fast, Scalable, and Accurate Method for Approximate Random Walk with Restart on Billion Scale Graphs
Given a large graph, how can we determine similarity between nodes in a fast
and accurate way? Random walk with restart (RWR) is a popular measure for this
purpose and has been exploited in numerous data mining applications including
ranking, anomaly detection, link prediction, and community detection. However,
previous methods for computing exact RWR require prohibitive storage sizes and
computational costs, and alternative methods which avoid such costs by
computing approximate RWR have limited accuracy. In this paper, we propose TPA,
a fast, scalable, and highly accurate method for computing approximate RWR on
large graphs. TPA exploits two important properties in RWR: 1) nodes close to a
seed node are likely to be revisited in following steps due to block-wise
structure of many real-world graphs, and 2) RWR scores of nodes which reside
far from the seed node are proportional to their PageRank scores. Based on
these two properties, TPA divides approximate RWR problem into two subproblems
called neighbor approximation and stranger approximation. In the neighbor
approximation, TPA estimates RWR scores of nodes close to the seed based on
scores of few early steps from the seed. In the stranger approximation, TPA
estimates RWR scores for nodes far from the seed using their PageRank. The
stranger and neighbor approximations are conducted in the preprocessing phase
and the online phase, respectively. Through extensive experiments, we show that
TPA requires up to 3.5x less time with up to 40x less memory space than other
state-of-the-art methods for the preprocessing phase. In the online phase, TPA
computes approximate RWR up to 30x faster than existing methods while
maintaining high accuracy.Comment: 12pages, 10 figure
Innovation and Internationalization of Korean SMEs in the Textile and Footwear Industries
Innovation has been recognized as one of the factors that enhances firm internationalization, a vital route for the growth and survival of small and medium enterprises. Thus, it is important to identify antecedents of firm innovation and their impacts on SME internationalization for their long-term success. Accordingly, the present study examined a model of SME internationalization in which the causal relationships among entrepreneurial orientation, absorptive capacity, innovation (product, process, and marketing innovation), and internationalization were proposed. Analyses of 156 survey data collected from Korean SMEs exporting textiles, apparel, and footwear revealed that entrepreneurial orientation and absorptive capacity appeared to function as significant antecedents of product and process innovation. Among three dimensions of innovation, only process and marketing innovation positively affected internationalization. The study provides practical implications by asserting the importance of process and marketing innovation to increase firm internationalization
The role of prototypical brand image on shaping country image and product quality evaluation: A cross-cultural examination
This study paid attention to the role of a corporate brand that most represents the country, referred to as prototypical brand, in shaping country image. Since the role of the prototypical brand (e.g., Samsung) in creating positive image will be critical in newly industrialized countries (NIEs), this study examines the context of Korea. Built on prototype, schema, and cue theories, this study proposes a research model that examines the impact of prototypical brand image on shaping the overall country image (i.e., macro country image) and product-specific country image (i.e., micro country image), which influences consumers\u27 evaluation of product quality of Korean cosmetics and empirically tests the model with the U.S. and Chinese consumers. This study tests the model in two cultures to see if the proposed model is robust across two cultures: high collectivism and individualism cultures
EXOT: Exit-aware Object Tracker for Safe Robotic Manipulation of Moving Object
Current robotic hand manipulation narrowly operates with objects in
predictable positions in limited environments. Thus, when the location of the
target object deviates severely from the expected location, a robot sometimes
responds in an unexpected way, especially when it operates with a human. For
safe robot operation, we propose the EXit-aware Object Tracker (EXOT) on a
robot hand camera that recognizes an object's absence during manipulation. The
robot decides whether to proceed by examining the tracker's bounding box output
containing the target object. We adopt an out-of-distribution classifier for
more accurate object recognition since trackers can mistrack a background as a
target object. To the best of our knowledge, our method is the first approach
of applying an out-of-distribution classification technique to a tracker
output. We evaluate our method on the first-person video benchmark dataset,
TREK-150, and on the custom dataset, RMOT-223, that we collect from the UR5e
robot. Then we test our tracker on the UR5e robot in real-time with a
conveyor-belt sushi task, to examine the tracker's ability to track target
dishes and to determine the exit status. Our tracker shows 38% higher
exit-aware performance than a baseline method. The dataset and the code will be
released at https://github.com/hskAlena/EXOT.Comment: 2023 IEEE International Conference on Robotics and Automation (ICRA
Overexpression of the miR-141/200c cluster promotes the migratory and invasive ability of triple-negative breast cancer cells through the activation of the FAK and PI3K/AKT signaling pathways by secreting VEGF-A
Migration in miR-141/200c-transduced HCC-38 and Hs578T cells treated with an anti-VEGF-A-neutralizing antibody. (A, D) Migration in miR-141/200c-transduced HCC-38 and Hs578T cells. Images of the crystal violet-stained cells that migrated horizontally in the trans-well migration assay (upper). The absorbance values of extracted crystal violet in migrated cells (lower). The migratory abilities of the miR-200c cells (~1.6-fold and ~1.7-fold, HCC-38 and Hs578T, respectively) were significantly increased compared with those of the control cells. (B, E) Measurement of the secreted levels of cytokines and growth factors (IL-2, IL-4, IL-5, IL-10, IL-12, IL-13, GM-CSF, IFN-γ, TNF-α, and VEGF-A). Transduction of miR-141/200c into HCC-38 and Hs578T cells promoted significantly higher VEGF-A secretion than that of control cells. (C, F) Trans-well migration of anti-VEGF-A-neutralizing antibody-treated cells. The enhanced migration of the miR-141/200c-transduced HCC-38 cells were significantly suppressed by treatment with anti-VEGF-A-neutralizing antibodies, but miR-141/200c-transduced Hs578T cells still showed increased migratory ability compared with control cells. *p < 0.05, **p < 0.001. Fifteen Years After the Gozan-Dong Glass Fiber Outbreak, Incheon in 1995
Objectives: In 1995, an outbreak survey in Gozan-dong concluded that an association between fiberglass exposure in drinking water and cancer outbreak cannot be established. This study follows the subjects from a study in 1995 using a data linkage method to examine whether an association existed. The authors will address the potential benefits and methodological issues following outbreak surveys using data linkage, particularly when informed consent is absent. Methods: This is a follow-up study of 697 (30 exposed) individuals out of the original 888 (31 exposed) participants (78.5%) from 1995 to 2007 assessing the cancer outcomes and deaths of these individuals. The National Cancer Registry (KNCR) and death certificate data were linked using the ID numbers of the participants. The standardized incidence ratio (SIR) and standardized mortality ratio (SMR) from cancers were calculated by the KNCR. Results: The SIR values for all cancer or gastrointestinal cancer (GI) occurrences were the lowest in the exposed group (SIR, 0.73; 95% CI, 0.10 to 5.21; 0.00 for GI), while the two control groups (control 1: external, control 2: internal) showed slight increases in their SIR values (SIR, 1.18 and 1.27 for all cancers; 1.62 and 1.46 for GI). All lacked statistical significance. All-cause mortality levels for the three groups showed the same pattern (SMR 0.37, 1.29, and 1.11). Conclusions: This study did not refute a finding of non-association with a 13-year follow-up. Considering that many outbreak surveys are associated with a small sample size and a cross-sectional design, follow-up studies that utilize data linkage should become standard procedure.OAIID:oai:osos.snu.ac.kr:snu2011-01/102/0000040632/15SEQ:15PERF_CD:SNU2011-01EVAL_ITEM_CD:102USER_ID:0000040632ADJUST_YN:YEMP_ID:A077602DEPT_CD:902CITE_RATE:0FILENAME:fifteen years after the gozan-dong glass fiber outbreak, incheon in 1995..pdfDEPT_NM:보건학과CONFIRM:
Effectiveness of a Training Program for Parents of Toddlers with or at Risk of Autism Spectrum Disorder
Purpose This study aimed to evaluate a hospital-provided hybrid parental support program designed to help parents implement routine interventions for their toddlers under 34 months, with or at risk of autism spectrum disorder (ASD). Methods An experimental group including 15 pairs of toddlers and their parents received eight weekly sessions, while a control group including nine pairs received no sessions. Toddlers’ joint attention, autism-related behaviors, and adaptive behaviors, as well as parenting stress and parenting efficacy, were compared between baseline and 8 weeks later. Results The toddlers in the experimental group showed significant improvement in their joint attention scores on the Early Social Communication Scales (P<0.01) and the Korean-Childhood Autism Rating Scale scores (P<0.01). However, statistically significant differences were not found in the adaptive behavior composite scores of the Korean Vineland Adaptive Behavior Scales-II and total behavior problem scores of the Korean version of the Child Behavior Checklist. Parenting efficacy in the experimental group showed significant improvement (P<0.05). Parenting stress increased in the experimental group, but the difference was not significant. Additionally, parents showed a statistically significant between-group difference in parenting efficacy (P<0.05). Conclusion A hospital-provided hybrid program affected the development of toddlers with ASD and parents’ implementation of interventions. It is significant that an online platform was used to provide individualized support for families to continue practicing the interventions and that the effectiveness of this program was demonstrated. This intervention can be considered as an efficient and sustainable alternative system to support toddlers with ASD and their families
Dietary Glucose Consumption Promotes RALDH Activity in Small Intestinal CD103(+)CD11b(+) Dendritic Cells
Retinal dehydrogenase (RALDH) enzymatic activities catalyze the conversion of
vitamin A to its metabolite Retinoic acid (RA) in intestinal dendritic cells (DCs)
and promote immunological tolerance. However, precise understanding of the exogenous
factors that act as initial trigger of RALDH activity in these cells is still
evolving. By using germ-free (GF) mice raised on an antigen free (AF) elemental
diet, we find that certain components in diet are critically required to establish
optimal RALDH expression and activity, most prominently in small intestinal
CD103(+)CD11b(+) DCs (siLP-DCs) right from the beginning of their lives.
Surprisingly, systematic screens using modified diets devoid of individual dietary
components indicate that proteins, starch and minerals are dispensable for this
activity. On the other hand, in depth comparison between subtle differences in
dietary composition among different dietary regimes reveal that adequate glucose
concentration in diet is a critical determinant for establishing RALDH activity
specifically in siLP-DCs. Consequently, pre-treatment of siLP-DCs, and not
mesenteric lymph node derived MLNDCs with glucose, results in significant
enhancement in the in vitro generation of induced Regulatory T (iTreg) cells. Our
findings reveal previously underappreciated role of dietary glucose concentration in
establishing regulatory properties in intestinal DCs, thereby extending a potential
therapeutic module against intestinal inflammation11Ysciescopu
Unilateral Psoriasis in a Woman with Ipsilateral Post-Mastectomy Lymphedema
Psoriasis is a multi-factorial disease with various clinical manifestations. We present a case of unilateral psoriasis associated with ipsilateral lymphedema that developed after mastectomy for breast cancer. A 42-year-old Korean woman was referred to our clinic with a 1-month history of multiple erythematous scaly patches on the right arm, back, and breast and was diagnosed with psoriasis by a skin biopsy. Three years previously, she had been diagnosed with breast cancer (T1N2), underwent a right quadrantectomy and axillary lymph node dissection, and completed adjuvant chemotherapy followed by high-dose adjuvant radiotherapy. She had started rehabilitation therapy on the right arm for secondary lymphedema 30 months previously. Because of the long interval between radiation and psoriasis, we speculated that changes in the local milieu caused by the lymphedema might be a causative factor. We hereby report a rare case of unilateral psoriasis following post-mastectomy lymphedema
