A Tensor-based eLSTM Model to Predict Stock Price Using Financial News

    Get PDF
Stock market prediction has attracted much attention from both academia and business. Both traditional finance and behavioral finance believe that market information affects stock movements. Typically, market information consists of fundamentals and news information. To study how information shapes stock markets, common strategies are to concatenate various information into one compound vector. However, such concatenating ignores the interlinks between fundamentals and news information. In addition, the fundamental data are continuous values sampled at fixed time intervals, while news information occurred randomly. Such heterogeneity leads to miss valuable information partially or twist the feature spaces. In this article, we propose a tensor-based event-LSTM (eLSTM) to solve these two challenges. In particular, we model the market information space with tensors instead of concatenated vectors and balance the heterogeneity of different data types with event-driven mechanism in LSTM. Experiments performed on an entire year data of China Securities markets demonstrate the supreme of the proposed approach over the state-of-the-art algorithms including AZfinText, eMAQT, and TeSIA

Rumor Clarification, Digital Platform, and Stock Movement

Stock return is influenced by information release, dissemination, and acceptance. Rumor clarification is supposed to reduce asymmetric information and abnormal stock return. In this research, we extracted 4134 rumor-clarification pairs from 687,429 postings in social media, and quantified the language used in these messages, along with online firm behaviors, to study the effect of clarifications on stock returns. Our findings include (1) the digitalized rumor clarification messages affect the abnormal returns of the relevant stocks; (2) Such influence can be quantified and measured by the emotion polarity of rumor clarification; (3) Firm’s online clarification behaviors may have no influence on abnormal returns except for the total response number of rumor clarification for a listed company. In particular, investors prefer to trust the clarifications from the companies with frequent online interactive engagements

Active backstepping control of combined projective synchronization among different nonlinear systems

    Get PDF
In this article, the authors have studied combination projective synchronization using active backstepping method. The main contribution of this effort is realization of the projective synchronization between two drive systems and one response system. We relax some limitations of previous work, where only combination complete synchronization has been investigated. According to Lyapunov stability theory and active backstepping design method, the corresponding controllers are designed to observe combination projective synchronization among three different classical chaotic systems, i.e. the Lorenz system, Rossler system and € Chen system. The numerical simulation examples verify the effectiveness of the theoretical analysis. Combination projective synchronization has stronger anti-attack ability and antitranslated ability than the normal projective synchronization scheme realized by one drive and one response system in secure communication

Protein Kinase B (Akt) Promotes Pathological Angiogenesis in Murine Model of Oxygen-Induced Retinopathy

Akt, or protein kinase B, is an important signaling molecule that modulates many cellular processes such as cell growth, survival, and metabolism. However, the vivo roles and effectors of Akt in retinal angiogenesis are not explicitly clear. We therefore detected the expression of Akt using Western blotting or RT-PCR technologies in an animal model of oxygen-induced retinopathy, and investigated the effects of recombinant Akt on inhibiting vessels loss and Akt inhibitor on suppressing experimental retinal neovascularization in this model. We showed that in the hyperoxic phase of oxygen-induced retinopathy, the expression of Akt was greatly suppressed. In the hypoxic phase, the expression of Akt was increased dramatically. No significant differences were found in normoxic groups. Compared with control groups, administration of the recombinant Akt in the first phase of retinopathy markedly reduced capillary-free areas, while the administration of the Akt inhibitor in the second phase of retinopathy significantly decreased retinal neovascularization but capillary-free areas. These results indicate that Akt play a critical role in the pathological process (vessels loss and neovascularization) of mouse model of oxygen-induced retinopathy, which may provide a valubale therapeutic tool for ischemic-induced retinal diseases

    Sarcandra glabra

Sarcandra glabra, as a type of “antipyretic-detoxicate drugs”, has always been widely used in traditional Chinese medicine (TCM). The Sarcandra glabra extract (SGE) is applied frequently as anti-inflammatory and anti-infectious drug in folk medicine. However, relative experiment data supporting this effective clinical consequence was limited. In order to mimic the physiological conditions of the susceptible population, we employed restraint stress mouse model to investigate the effect of SGE against influenza. Mice were infected with influenza virus three days after restraint, while SGE was orally administrated for 10 consecutive days. Body weight, morbidity, and mortality were recorded daily. Histopathologic changes, susceptibility genes expressions and inflammatory markers in lungs were determined. Our results showed that restraint stress significantly increased susceptibility and severity of influenza virus. However, oral administration of SGE could reduce morbidity, mortality and significantly prolonged survival time. The results further showed that SGE had a crucial effect on improving susceptibility markers levels to recover the balance of host defense system and inhibiting inflammatory cytokines levels through down-regulation of NF-κB protein expression to ameliorate the lung injury. These data showed that SGE reduced the susceptibility and severity of influenza

Prevalence of sexual dysfunction and its association with psychological symptoms in drug-naive major depressive disorder patients in West China

BackgroundSexual dysfunction is commonly observed in individuals with Major Depressive Disorder (MDD), along with various psychological symptoms such as anxiety, somatic complaints, interpersonal sensitivity, and obsessive-compulsive tendencies. However, there is a research gap in understanding the impact of these psychological symptoms on sexual functioning in MDD. Furthermore, there is limited data on the incidence of sexual dysfunction among drug-naive MDD patients in West China. This study aims to determine the prevalence of sexual dysfunction in this patient population and explore its association with other psychological indicators.MethodsWe conducted a retrospective analysis of patient data from October 2020 to September 2022 using propensity score matching. A focused group of 165 males and 490 females was selected from a total of 1941 MDD patients. This allowed for a comparative analysis of demographic data, as well as scores from the Self-Rating Depression Scale (SDS), Self-Rating Anxiety Scale (SAS), and Symptom Checklist-90 (SCL-90), the Arizona Sexual Experience Scale (ASEX).ResultsOur findings reveal that 46.2% of drug-naive MDD patients experienced sexual dysfunction. Notably, there was a higher prevalence of sexual dysfunction among female patients (50.3%) compared to males (37.5%). MDD patients without sexual dysfunction consistently exhibited higher SDS scores than those with sexual dysfunction (p < 0.01), There were no statistically significant differences between male and female MDD patients with or without concomitant sexual dysfunction in terms of Somatic complaints, Obsessive-compulsive, Interpersonal sensitivity, Anxiety, Phobic anxiety, Paranoid ideation, Psychoticism and Diet/sleep difficulties (p > 0.05). In addition, male MDD patients with sexual dysfunction showed a emerging trend towards elevated Hostility scores on the SCL-90 (p = 0.058), male MDD patients with sexual dysfunction showed an increasing trend in hostility scores on the SCL-90, whereas female MDD patients with sexual dysfunction did not show such a trend.ConclusionThe study highlights a significant gender difference in the prevalence of sexual dysfunction among MDD patients, with females being more susceptible than males. There is a positive correlation between the severity of depression and sexual dysfunction in both genders. Interestingly, male MDD patients demonstrated a potential protective effect of hostility against sexual dysfunction, which was not observed in female patients
