Antiplasmodial Activities of Homogentisic Acid Derivative Protein Kinase Inhibitors Isolated from a Vanuatu Marine Sponge Pseudoceratina sp.
As part of our search for new antimalarial drugs in South Pacific marine sponges, we have looked for inhibitors of Pfnek-1, a specific protein kinase of Plasmodium falciparum. On the basis of promising activity in a preliminary screening, the ethanolic crude extract of a new species of Pseudoceratina collected in Vanuatu was selected for further investigation. A bioassay-guided fractionation led to the isolation of a derivative of homogentisic acid [methyl (2,4-dibromo-3,6-dihydroxyphenyl)acetate, 4a] which inhibited Pfnek-1 with an IC50 around 1.8 μM. This product was moderately active in vitro against a FcB1 P. falciparum strain (IC50 = 12 μM). From the same sponge, we isolated three known compounds [11,19-dideoxyfistularin-3 (1), 11-deoxyfistularin-3 (2) and dibromo-verongiaquinol (3)] which were inactive against Pfnek-1. Synthesis and biological evaluation of some derivatives of 4a are reported
La Voz de Michoacán y los que no pueden oír: cambios discursivos en torno a las personas sordas morelianas en un diario local (1948 - 2014)
This paper examines how the newspaper La Voz de Michoacán has changed the way it refers to a sector that has been little analyzed by Mexican historiography: the deaf. The role of the press, in dissemination and modification of people’s opinion and perspective about this community, is highlighted
through analyzing documents related to deaf people, and contextualizing these manuscripts into processes as rehabilitative medical model implementation, subsequently emphasizing human rights and non-discrimination to hearing-impaired people in MoreliaCet article examine comment le journal La Voz de Michoacán a changé la manière de faire référence à un secteur peu analysé par l’historiographie
Abstract: This paper describes and analyzes the origin and development of Morelia’s deaf community, emphasizing the features that typified it and some of the most outstanding events from its past. Also, some similarities and contrasts are drawn between this community and groups at the National School for Deaf-Mute People in Mexico City through a brief review of the latter’s histor

NMR and molecular fluorescence spectroscopic study of the structure and thermodynamic parameters of EGCG/ B-cyclodextrin inclusion complexes with potential antioxidant activity
Artículo de publicación ISIThe present study is focused on the characterization
of the interaction between (-)-epigallocatechingallate
(EGCG) and cyclodextrins like b-cyclodextrin (bCD),
heptakis(2,6 di-O-methyl)-b-cyclodextrin (DMbCD), and
hydroxypropyl-b-cyclodextrin (HPbCD) in aqueous solution.
These inclusion complexes previously demonstrated
improvements in the antioxidant activity respect to free
EGCG. The structural evidence obtained by 2D-ROESY and
selective 1D-ROESY experiments was rationalized by
autodock studies and indicates that all the complexes have
similar inclusion geometries, but the difference resides on
the exposition degree of the antioxidant rings of EGCG, such
as pyrogallol and galloyl groups. The thermodynamic study
allowed estimating that the inclusion process is entalpically
driven for the derivatized cyclodextrins complexes and
entropically driven for bCD complexes due to the predominance
of hydrophobic interactions with EGCG.This work was supported by CONICYT Project
