Possible approach to improve sensitivity of a Michelson interferometer

We propose a possible approach to achieve an 1/N sensitivity of Michelson interferometer by using a properly designed random phase modulation. Different from other approaches, the sensitivity improvement does not depend on increasing optical powers or utilizing the quantum properties of light. Moreover the requirements for optical losses and the quantum efficiencies of photodetection systems might be lower than the quantum approaches and the sensitivity improvement is frequency independent in all detection band.Comment: 8 pages, 3 figures, new versio

Effective-mass Klein-Gordon Equation for non-PT/non-Hermitian Generalized Morse Potential

The one-dimensional effective-mass Klein-Gordon equation for the real, and non-\textrm{PT}-symmetric/non-Hermitian generalized Morse potential is solved by taking a series expansion for the wave function. The energy eigenvalues, and the corresponding eigenfunctions are obtained. They are also calculated for the constant mass case.Comment: 14 page

On the origin of the redshift in the emission wavelength of InGaN/GaN blue light emitting diodes grown with a higher temperature interlayer

Cataloged from PDF version of article.A redshift of the peak emission wavelength was observed in the blue light emitting diodes of InGaN/GaN grown with a higher temperature interlayer that was sandwiched between the low-temperature buffer layer and high-temperature unintentionally doped GaN layer. The effect of interlayer growth temperature on the emission wavelength was probed and studied by optical, structural, and electrical properties. Numerical studies on the effect of indium composition and quantum confinement Stark effect were also carried out to verify the experimental data. The results suggest that the redshift of the peak emission wavelength is originated from the enhanced indium incorporation, which results from the reduced strain during the growth of quantum wells. Influence of n-type versus p-type AlGaN electron-blocking layer on InGaN/GaN multiple quantum wells light-emitting diodes

Cataloged from PDF version of article. The effect of n-AlGaN versus p-AlGaN electron-blocking layers (EBLs) on the performance of InGaN/GaN light-emitting diodes is studied in this work. Experimental results suggest that the n-type EBL leads to higher optical output power and external quantum efficiency, compared to the devices with p-AlGaN EBL, which is commonly used today. Numerical simulations on the carrier distribution and energy band diagram reveal that the n-AlGaN EBL is more efficient in preventing electron overflow, while not blocking the hole injection into the active region, hence leading to higher radiative recombination rate within the multiple quantum wells active region. © 2013 AIP Publishing LLC

Structural study on hole-doped superconductors Pr1-xSrxFeAsO

The structural details in Pr1-xSrxFeAsO (1111) superconducting system are analyzed using data obtained from synchrotron X-ray diffraction and the structural parameters are carefully studied as the system is moving from non-superconducting to hole-doped superconducting with the Sr concentration. Superconductivity emerges when the Sr doping amount reaches 0.221. The linear increase of the lattice constants proves that Sr is successfully introduced into the system and its concentration can accurately be determined by the electron density analyses. The evolution of structural parameters with Sr concentration in Pr1-xSrxFeAsO and their comparison to other similar structural parameters of the related Fe-based superconductors suggest that the interlayer space between the conducting As-Fe-As layer and the insulating Pr-O-Pr layer is important for improving Tc in the hole-doped (1111) superconductors, which seems to be different from electron-doped systems.Comment: 17 pages, 7 figures, 1 tabl

HYDROLYTIC STABILITY OF IMIDES OF DIFFERENT STRUCTURES

The conversion kinetics of N(o-carboxyphenyl)naphthalimide has been studied in buffer solutions over a pH range 5-12.6 and temperature range 25-70 °C. The naphthalimide hydrolysis is shown to be a reversible reaction. The mechanism of the alkaline hydrolysis of N(o- carboxyphenyl) phthalimide is proposed. The structure dependence of the imide hydrolytic stability is explained on the basis of the suggested mechanism

Three-mode opto-acoustic parametric interactions with coupled cavity

We theoretically analyze three-mode opto-acoustic parametric interactions in a coupled Fabry-Perot cavity, where one acoustic mode interacts with two optical modes. We show explicitly that extra degrees of freedom in a coupled cavity allow explorations of both parametric instability and cooling regimes with high parametric gain in a single table top experiment. This work can motivate experimental realizations of the three-mode parametric instability which might be an issue in next-generation gravitational-wave detectors with high optical-power cavities, helping in the development of better models, and in developing techniques for controls. In addition, we show that the same scheme can be implemented in the resolved-sideband acoustic-mode cooling.Comment: 15 pages, 7 figure
