A PLATFORM FOR A SMART LEARNING ENVIRONMENT

    Get PDF
In this paper, a modular platform which provides student services for smart educational environment is described. The platform represents a point of mutual integration of various services, such as hosting platform for students’ projects, platform for integrating SMS service with students’ web applications, Internet of Things platform which enables acquiring data from sensors distributed within the University building and controlling various actuators. Platform is deployed as a part of Smart Learning environment. It is integrated with single sign on service and it uses CAS and Oauth2. REST API is also provided. PHP Symfony framework, relational and non-relational databases are used for deploying the platform. The platform was evaluated and tested

Analysis of adhesion characteristics of liner dental materials

    No full text
Adhesive characteristics of materials used in dental practice are determined by indirect methods, by measuring mechanical properties of liner materials. In that procedure, the adhesion is defined by using measured mechanical properties of the bond material-test sample, which has several shortages. In the presented research the focus was based on the multi-component, composite, materials, which have, both organic and inorganic components in their structures. The direct measure of material-dentine bond was used in order to quantify the adhesion properties of investigated liner materials. Artificial saliva was the media for inducing the liner-dentine bond destruction. Destruction measurements were made by applying the quantification of visual information methodology. Obtained results were used to calculate the adhesion coefficient of the liner materials. The results were correlated with the mechanical test. There are no references on comparative testing of adhesion mechanical properties of dental material in the literature with presented methodology. The presented methodology proved to be useful for the functional quality ranking of dental materials

Web-based Environment for Learning Discrete Event Simulation

    No full text
This paper describes a web-based environment for learning discrete simulation. The main goal of the paper is to foster the process of e-learning simulation by providing students and teachers with effective and comprehensive tools for creating, storing and executing discrete system simulation models. For these purposes the FONWEBGPSS application was developed and integrated into the e-learning system Moodle. The integration is implemented on three levels: users, processes and learning resources. The integration of users and processes is performed by synchronizing data in both systems. The integration of learning resources is performed by adjusting and implementing the IEEE LOM profile for learning simulation. In order to evaluate the impact of the proposed solution on the learning simulation outcome, research has been performed within the undergraduate course Simulation and simulation languages at the University of Belgrade. Research results indicate that students achieve better results in learning simulation when using FONWEBGPSS application integrated into the e-learning system than learning in a traditional way

Mapping of hemoglobin in erythrocytes and erythrocyte ghosts using two photon excitation fluorescence microscopy

    Get PDF
The present study describes utilization of two photon excitation fluorescence (2PE) microscopy for visualization of the hemoglobin in human and porcine erythrocytes and their empty membranes (i.e., ghosts). High-quality, label-and fixation-free visualization of hemoglobin was achieved at excitation wavelength 730 nm by detecting visible autofluorescence. Localization in the suspension and spatial distribution (i.e., mapping) of residual hemoglobin in erythrocyte ghosts has been resolved by 2PE. Prior to the 2PE mapping, the presence of residual hemoglobin in the bulk suspension of erythrocyte ghosts was confirmed by cyanmethemoglobin assay. 2PE analysis revealed that the distribution of hemoglobin in intact erythrocytes follows the cells' shape. Two types of erythrocytes, human and porcine, characterized with discocyte and echinocyte morphology, respectively, showed significant differences in hemoglobin distribution. The 2PE images have revealed that despite an extensive washing out procedure after gradual hypotonic hemolysis, a certain amount of hemoglobin localized on the intracellular side always remains bound to the membrane and cannot be eliminated. The obtained results open the possibility to use 2PE microscopy to examine hemoglobin distribution in erythrocytes and estimate the purity level of erythrocyte ghosts in biotechnological processes
