On the genericity of spacetime singularities
We consider here the genericity aspects of spacetime singularities that occur
in cosmology and in gravitational collapse. The singularity theorems (that
predict the occurrence of singularities in general relativity) allow the
singularities of gravitational collapse to be either visible to external
observers or covered by an event horizon of gravity. It is shown that the
visible singularities that develop as final states of spherical collapse are

Finite element structural model of a large, thin, completely free, flat plate
A finite element structural model of a 30.48 m x 30.48 m x 2.54 mm completely free aluminum plate is described and modal frequencies and mode shape data for the first 44 modes are presented. An explanation of the procedure for using the data is also presented. The model should prove useful for the investigation of controller design approaches for large flexible space structures
Application of the LQG/LTR technique to robust controller synthesis for a large flexible space antenna
The problem of synthesizing a robust controller is considered for a large, flexible space-based antenna by using the linear-quadratic-Gaussian (LQG)/loop transfer recovery (LTR) method. The study is based on a finite-element model of the 122-m hoop/column antenna, which consists of three rigid-body rotational modes and the first 10 elastic modes. A robust compensator design for achieving the required performance bandwidth in the presence of modeling uncertainties is obtained using the LQG/LTR method for loop-shaping in the frequency domain. Different sensor actuator locations are analyzed in terms of the pole/zero locations of the multivariable systems and possible best locations are indicated. The computations are performed by using the LQG design package ORACLS augmented with frequency domain singular value analysis software
Gravitational Collapse in Constant Potential Bath
We analyse here the gravitational collapse of directed null radiation in a
background with a constant potential such as one produced by a star system like
galaxy in which the collapsing object is immersed. Both naked singularities and
black holes are shown to be developing as the final outcome of the collapse. An
interesting feature that emerges is that a part of the naked singularity
spectrum in collapsing Vaidya region gets covered in the corresponding
dual-Vaidya region, which corresponds to the Vaidya directed null radiation
sitting in constant potential bath. The implications of such a result towards

Modified SPLICE and its Extension to Non-Stereo Data for Noise Robust Speech Recognition
In this paper, a modification to the training process of the popular SPLICE
algorithm has been proposed for noise robust speech recognition. The
modification is based on feature correlations, and enables this stereo-based
algorithm to improve the performance in all noise conditions, especially in
unseen cases. Further, the modified framework is extended to work for
non-stereo datasets where clean and noisy training utterances, but not stereo
counterparts, are required. Finally, an MLLR-based computationally efficient
run-time noise adaptation method in SPLICE framework has been proposed. The
modified SPLICE shows 8.6% absolute improvement over SPLICE in Test C of
Aurora-2 database, and 2.93% overall. Non-stereo method shows 10.37% and 6.93%
absolute improvements over Aurora-2 and Aurora-4 baseline models respectively.
Run-time adaptation shows 9.89% absolute improvement in modified framework as
compared to SPLICE for Test C, and 4.96% overall w.r.t. standard MLLR

Retroperitoneal Ancient Schwannoma
Schwannomas are rare tumors which arise from nerve sheath and are mostly benign in nature. They are usually located in the head, neck and flexor surfaces of extremities. Schwannomas are very rare in the retroperitoneal region. Amongst all schwannomas 0.7% of benign ones and 1.7% of malignant ones are located in the retroperitoneum. Preoperative diagnosis is difficult because of vague symptoms. We report a case of retroperitonal schwannoma in a 70 years female patient because of its rarity and unusual location
Analysis and simulation of a magnetic bearing suspension system for a laboratory model annular momentum control device
A linear analysis and the results of a nonlinear simulation of a magnetic bearing suspension system which uses permanent magnet flux biasing are presented. The magnetic bearing suspension is part of a 4068 N-m-s (3000 lb-ft-sec) laboratory model annular momentum control device (AMCD). The simulation includes rigid body rim dynamics, linear and nonlinear axial actuators, linear radial actuators, axial and radial rim warp, and power supply and power driver current limits
Non-singular black-holes on the brane
We investigate the possibility of obtaining non-singular black-hole solutions
in the brane world model by solving the effective field equations for the
induced metric on the brane. The Reissner-Nordstrom solution on the brane was
obtained by Dadhich etal by imposing the null energy condition on the 3-brane
for a bulk having non zero Weyl curvature. In this work, we relax the condition
of vanishing scalar curvature , however, retaining the null condition. We
have shown that it is possible to obtain class of static non-singular
spherically symmetric brane space-times admitting horizon. We obtain one such
class of solution which is a regular version of the Reissner-Nordstrom solution
