Political legislation cycle in the Czech Republic

There is a wide range of theories that try to explain interactions between politics end economy that are referred as political cycles. Majority of these theories aims at analysis of changes in economic outcomes that are related to elections or other phenomena in the political reality. To induce at least some of these changes it is necessary to alter a country's legislation which leads to emergence of political legislation cycles - changes in legislation activity over time in an electoral term. The aim of this paper is to study political legislation cycle in the legislative system of the Czech Republic. Obtained results suggest that elections timing has an impact on legislation activity. As electoral term matures and upcoming elections are getting closer an increase is observed in the legislation activity

ESTIMATION OF BIOGENIC VOC EMISSIONS FROM ECOSYSTEMS IN THE CZECH REPUBLIC

Characteristics of biogenic VOC (Volatile Organic Compounds) as well as methodology of BVOC (Biogenic VOC) emission estimation are presented in this article. It has been shown in previous studies (e.g. Simpson et al, 1995) that contribution of volatile organic compounds (VOC) emitted from biogenic sources to total amount of VOC in the atmosphere can be significant. Especially while modeling photochemical processes over forested areas biogenic sources should not be neglected. Emissions of volatile organic compounds – isoprene and monoterpenes from forest ecosystems in the area of Czech Republic were estimated. Results were compared with antropogenic emission data in different regions of the Czech Republic. It has been shown that the amounts of biogenic VOC emissions are comparable with emissions from anthropogenic sources in most of the regions. Spatial and temporal distributions of emissions are presented as well

IMPLICIT LARGE EDDY SIMULATION OF INCOMPRESSIBLE FLOW

In a prepared urban scale model of airflow within a complex geometry area the method of Implicit Large Eddy Simulation (ILES) is used. A staggered grid is used for a discretization of the equations describing the incompressible flow. The use of ILES comes from an application of the high resolution method for convective (advection) terms of the momentum equation. To assess the applicability of the ILES method for this purpose, we are in the stage of testing it on simple and well described cases of turbulent flows. The first example of 3D turbulent flow is the Taylor-Green vortex – originally a simple free flow containing organized vortices with a subsequent transition to turbulence. In this contribution there will be shown several characteristics of the turbulent flow and given their comparison with results described in literature (energy spectra, kinetic energy dissipation rate etc.)

Estimating Correlated Jumps and Stochastic Volatilities

We formulate a bivariate stochastic volatility jump-diffusion model with correlated jumps and volatilities. An MCMC Metropolis-Hastings sampling algorithm is proposed to estimate the model's parameters and latent state variables (jumps and stochastic volatilities) given observed returns. The methodology is successfully tested on several artificially generated bivariate time series and then on the two most important Czech domestic financial market time series of the FX (CZK/EUR) and stock (PX index) returns. Four bivariate models with and without jumps and/or stochastic volatility are compared using the deviance information criterion (DIC) confirming importance of incorporation of jumps and stochastic volatility into the model

Inter-sector credit exposure: Contingent claims analysis in the Czech Republic

Linkages between economic agents in form of financial assets might contribute to transmission of shocks between different parts of the economy. Aim of this thesis is to enrich the ongoing discussion about the spread of contagion through the economy. We provide an analysis of financial interlinkages in the Czech economy and using the contingent claims analysis (CCA) model we attempt to quantify risks in the system that that are implied by the existence of these linkages. We use different techniques within the framework of the model to obtain various indicators that can be used to assess stability of the system. Using simulations we find that size of losses due to riskiness of debt depends strongly on the origin of a shock and it is higher for shocks originating in the household sector than for shocks originating in the sector of the non-financial corporations. We also find that size of a decrease in capital of the banking sector needed to cause a distress in the system as relatively high and stable in time. There is a wide range of theories that try to explain interactions between politics end economy that are referred as political cycles.
