    Square-Wave Voltammetry of 1-Benzyl-tetrazole-5-thiol

    Get PDF
Basic electrochemical characteristics of 1-benzyl-tetrazole-5-thiol in acid medium were investigated applying classical (DC) polarography, cyclic (CV) and square-wave voltammetry (SWV). During the HMDE life-time, a compound was spontaneously formed between the mercury and thiol and deposited on the HMDE surface. The surface precipitation process results in formation of a multilayer film on the electrode surface. The SW response of the investigated component mainly depends on the structure of the film

Carcass Categorization and Chemical Composition of Ostrich Meat

This paper presents yield and carcass categorization of ostriches. The categories are the first, second, third, fourth, fifth and parts of rump, back and drumstick with muscles of these parts. In this paper the results of chemical composition of ostrich meat are also presented. Ostrich slaughter age was 14 months. The primary processing of ostriches examinations were made according to all sanitary - veterinary requests. After the primary processing examinations of chemical composition of ostrich meat (water, fat, proteins and ash) were made. According to the examinations it was realized that ostrich meat contains 76.22% water, <0.5% fats, 1.17% ash, 22.41% proteins

Determination of Probucol by Square-Wave Voltammetry

    Get PDF
A square-wave voltammetric method is developed for the determination of probucol on mercury electrode. Probucol is an important drug and it is a surface-active compound having tendency to adsorb on the surface of lipophilic mercury electrode. In neutral media, probucol shows electrochemical activity with SWV peak appearing at potential about -1.0 V. In this work we present a SWV method in which optimization of instrumental and experimental parameters is made for direct detection of probucol. By using adsorptive stripping voltammetry, we could detect probucol in sub-micromolar range with help of square-wave voltammetry

Is Lake Prespa Jeopardizing the Ecosystem of Ancient Lake Ohrid?

Lake Prespa and Lake Ohrid, located in south-eastern Europe, are two lakes of extraordinary ecological value. Although the upstream Lake Prespa has no surface outflow, its waters reach the 160m lower Lake Ohrid through underground hydraulic connections. Substantial conservation efforts concentrate on oligotrophic downstream Lake Ohrid, which is famous for its large number of endemic and relict species. In this paper, we present a system analytical approach to assess the role of the mesotrophic upstream Lake Prespa in the ongoing eutrophication of Lake Ohrid. Almost the entire outflow from Lake Prespa is found to flow into Lake Ohrid through karst channels. However, 65% of the transported phosphorus is retained within the aquifer. Thanks to this natural filter, Lake Prespa does not pose an immediate threat to Lake Ohrid. However, a potential future four-fold increase of the current phosphorus load from Lake Prespa would lead to a 20% increase (+0.9mg P m−3) in the current phosphorus content of Lake Ohrid, which could jeopardize its fragile ecosystem. While being a potential future danger to Lake Ohrid, Lake Prespa itself is substantially endangered by water losses to irrigation, which have been shown to amplify its eutrophicatio

    Square-wave voltammetric determination of salophen

    Get PDF
A square-wave voltammetric method for direct quantification of salophen at mercury working electrode is reported. Salophen is a polyphenol-like compound able to create stable complexes with various metal cations that are commonly used in medicine and pharmacy. Salophen gives a quasireversible redox signal in region of potentials between -1.2 V and -1.5 V, whose electrode reaction is a pH dependent process. By optimizing experimental conditions, it was possible to develop a sensitive square-wave voltammetric method for direct detection of salophen in sub-micromolar concentration range. It is one of the very few electrochemical studies about salophen presented in the literature
