This paper shows correlations between vessel characteristics and differences in growth-ring width in heartwood and sapwood. Analyzed samples were from an iron-wood tree (Gymnocladus canadensis Lam.) that grew in the Muzljanski Rit area, of the Srpska Crnja municipality in Serbia. According to previous research, it was deduced that Gymnocladus canadensis Lam. belongs to ring-porous species with big vessel lumen in the earlywood zone and thicker cell walls in the latewood. Vessels were more numerous in the latewood zone, and the same was true for heartwood and sapwood. For both layers, sapwood possessed a few more vessels than heartwood, and a statistically significant difference was confirmed by t-test during the early phase. The greatest negative value of correlation coefficient was between the number of vessels and growth-ring width during the early phase for sapwood. The number of vessels decreased in the wider growth rings. The correlation between growth-ring width and the area of vessels had a statistically significant positive value of correlative coefficient, which means that wider growth rings had larger vessel areas in the early phase for sapwood.Ministry of Education, Science and Technological Development of the Republic of Serbia {[}31041

ISTRAŽIVANJE UTICAJA SIROVINSKOG SASTAVA I NAČINA OBRADE TKANINA NA NJIHOVA ANTIBAKTERIJSKA SVOJSTVA

U ovom radu je istraživan uticaj sirovinskog sastava i načina obrade tkanina vodenim ekstraktom biljaka Allium cepa L. i Juglans regia L. na stepen obojenja i antibakterijska svojstva. Za istraživanja su korištene dvije tkanine različitih sirovinskih sastava (100 % pamuk i 50% pamuk/50% poliester), istih konstrukcionih karakteristika i približno iste površinske mase. Bojenje tkanina ekstraktima biljaka rađeno je na dva načina koristeći metodu iscrpljenja kupatila, uz dodatak različitih močila (CH3COOH i KNaC4H4O6 · 4H2O). Antibakterijska svojstva tkanina obrađenih navedenim vodenim ekstrakatima su testirana na bakterije Escherichia coli i Staphylococcus aureus koristeći metodu paralelnih linija (AATCC TM 147). Primjenjeni ekstrakti biljaka mogli bi naći primjenu u proizvodnji malih serija unikatnih ekološki prihvatljivih proizvoda. U isto vrijeme ovako oplemenjene tkanine pokazuju određena antimikrobna svojstva. Sa ekološke tačke gledišta ekstrakti biljaka, kao prirodni proizvodi, predstavljaju pogodnu zamjenu za hemijske boje

Quality parameters including sensory and physical characteristics and proximate and mineral composition in M. psoas major, M. semimembranosus, M. longissimus thoracis et lumborum and M. triceps brachii of Swallow-Belly Mangulica pigs were determined. Type of muscles had no significant effect (P > 0.05) on water-holding capacity, protein, total fat and K, P and Ca content. The M. psoas major was the highest in pH(24h), water-holding capacity, CIEa* and CIEb* values, moisture, K, P and Cu content, and the lowest in visual marbling score and total fat content. The M. semimembranosus was the highest in Mg and Ca content, and the lowest in CIEL* value (darkest muscle) and K content. The lightest colour (CIEL* value), the highest content of protein, total fat and total ash, and the lowest visual colour score, pH(24h), CIEa* and CIEb* values, content of moisture, Na, Ca, Zn, Fe and Cu were found in M. longissimus thoracis et lumborum. The highest visual colour and marbling score, the highest content of Na, Zn and Fe, and the lowest water-holding capacity, content of protein, total ash, P and Mg were found in M. triceps brachii
