Combined docking and grasping device
A combined docking and grasping device for use with a manipulator arm on a docking vehicle and the like for mechanically connecting a docking vehicle with an orbital payload having a receptacle for receiving the device is described. The device includes a pair of opposing jaw members having opposing serrated surfaces for grasping an object and a triangular cam portion on an outer surface for insertion and interlocking with an orbital payload
Pneumatic inflatable end effector
The invention relates to an end effector device for robot or teleoperated type space vehicle which includes an inflatable balloon member carried on the end of tubular member which has a hollow center or conduit through which a suitable pressurized fluid is supplied. The device may be inserted into a variety of shaped openings or truss-type structures for handling in space
Comparison of flight data and analysis for hingeless rotor regressive inplane mode stability
Analytical and experimental data obtained during the development of the AH-56A covering stability of the regressive inplane mode, including coupling with other modes such as body and rotor plunge are reported. Data were obtained on two distinctly different control systems; both gyro controlled, but one with feathering moment feedback and the other with direct flapping feedback. A review was made of analytical procedures employed in investigating the stability of this mode and a comparison was made of the analytical and experimental data. The effect of certain parameters including blade droop, sweep, delta 3, alpha 1, vehicle roll inertia, inplane frequency, and rpm and forward speed on the mode were also reviewed. It was shown that the stability of this mode is treatable by analysis and that adequate stability is achievable without recourse to auxiliary inplane damping devices
Development and flight evaluation of active controls in the L-1011
Active controls in the Lockheed L-1011 for increased energy efficiency are discussed. Active wing load alleviation for extended span, increased aspect ratio, and active stability augmentation with a smaller tail for reduced drag and weight are among the topics considered. Flight tests of active wing load alleviation on the baseline aircraft and moving-base piloted simulation developing criteria for stability augmentation are described
Airtightness of buildings — towards higher performance: Final Report — Domestic Sector Airtightness
This report constitutes milestone D11 — Final Report — Domestic Sector Airtightness of the Communities and Local Government/ODPM Project reference CI 61/6/16 (BD2429) Airtightness of Buildings — Towards Higher Performance (Borland and Bell, 2003). This report presents the overall conclusions and key messages obtained from the project through design assessments, construction observations, discussions with developers and pressurisation test results. It also summarises discussion on the airtight performance of current UK housing, the implementation and impact of current and future legislation, and identifies potential areas for future work
Fixed boundary conditions analysis of the 3d Gonihedric Ising model with
The Gonihedric Ising model is a particular case of the class of models
defined by Savvidy and Wegner intended as discrete versions of string theories
on cubic lattices. In this paper we perform a high statistics analysis of the
phase transition exhibited by the 3d Gonihedric Ising model with in the
light of a set of recently stated scaling laws applicable to first order phase
transitions with fixed boundary conditions. Even though qualitative evidence
was presented in a previous paper to support the existence of a first order
phase transition at , only now are we capable of pinpointing the
transition inverse temperature at and of checking the
scaling of standard observables.Comment: 14 pages, 5 tables, 2 figures, uses elsart.cls packag
