Empowering Employees to Prevent Fraud in Nonprofit Organizations
This Article examines the significant problem of fraud within nonprofit organizations and demonstrates that current anti-fraud measures do not adequately reflect the important role employees play in perpetuating or stopping fraudulent activity. Psychological and organizational behavior studies have established the importance of (1) participation and (2) peers in shaping the behavior of individuals within the organizational context. This Article builds on that research and establishes that to successfully combat fraud, organizations must integrate employees into the design, implementation, and enforcement of anti-fraud strategy and procedures. Engaged, empowered employees will be less likely to commit fraud and more likely to dissuade their peers from fraudulent behavior. After examining the theory underlying the proposed approach, this Article sets forth directions and specific suggestions for designing an anti-fraud program that empowers employees

The impact of distance (external) and organizational factors (internal) on the knowledge chain of multinational corporations: South Africa as a host country
Purpose – The geographic dispersion of MNCs implies that whilst it gives them access to new and different knowledge from diverse localities it also adds to the costs and complexities of managing that knowledge and its effective dispersal across geographies. The purpose of this paper is to examine how knowledge is transferred within MNCs and provide a framework for this process particularly focusing on the role that distance (external) and organizational factors (internal) plays therein.
Methodology – A qualitative study is utilized focusing on two technology companies from different cultural home countries and the technology transfer process with their South African subsidiaries.
Findings –We find that the standardization of knowledge impacts the creation and diffusion of knowledge, expatriates impact on the creation, diffusion and adoption, and finally relevance and localization impact on the adoption and utilization of knowledge.
Contribution – We present a conceptual framework around trust and rationalization as regards transferring knowledge within MNCs and find some evidence of the impact of distance, particularly cultural, on the methods employed in this transfer. The paper illustrates the practical ways in which MNCs organize their internal resources and overcome various dimensions of distance in ensuring knowledge transfers. By choosing companies from such divergent home countries (one industrialized and one newly industrialized, with very different cultural settings) and examining their knowledge transfers with their South African subsidiaries we are able to unpack various dimensions of distance and how organizational mechanisms affect this process
A twin-mirrored galvanometer laser light sheet generator
A galvanometer mirror-based laser light sheet system has been developed for use in the Basic Aerodynamics Research Tunnel at NASA Langley. This system generates and positions single or multiple light sheets over aeronautical research models being tested in the low speed tunnel. This report describes a twin mirrored galvanometer laser light sheet generator and shows typical light sheet arrangements in use. With this system, illumination of smoke entrained in the flow over a delta wing model reveals the vortical flow produced by the separation of the flow at the leading edge of the model. The light sheet system has proven to be very adaptable and easy to use in sizing and positioning light sheets in wind tunnel applications
Spirituality of College Students: An Examination of Fraternity/Sorority Member and Non-Member Groups
This quantitative study utilized the Assessment of Spirituality and Religious Sentiments (ASPIRES) (Piedmont, 1999) to investigate levels of spirituality in fraternity/sorority member and non-affiliated students. Data analysis on 123 participants at a mid-sized public institution in the mid-Atlantic region revealed significant differences on connectedness aspects of spirituality

An inclusive design perspective on automotive HMI trends
This paper looks at recent trends in automotive human machine interfaces, with a lens of evaluation from an inclusive design perspective. The goal of Inclusive Design is to ensure that the population of potential users for a product or service is maximised. Until relatively recently, automotive human machine interfaces (HMI’s) have excluded and caused difficulties for users due to visibility, reach and force required to operate controls. Over the last 15 or so years however, there has been a significant increase in control and display location, interface types and integration of functions, as well as dramatically increased potential functionality due to in-vehicle emergent technologies. It is suggested that this increase in interface unfamiliarity for a driver will cause significant difficulty and potential exclusion, due to the demands of learning and conflicts in expectation. The effects on this trend in the context of an ageing population and automated driving technologies are discussed.This work was carried out at the University of Cambridge’s Engineering Design Centre, within the Inclusive Design Group. Cavallo's Multiplier for in situ Generation of High Voltage
A classic electrostatic induction machine, Cavallo's multiplier, is suggested
for in situ production of very high voltage in cryogenic environments. The
device is suitable for generating a large electrostatic field under conditions
of very small load current. Operation of the Cavallo multiplier is analyzed,
with quantitative description in terms of mutual capacitances between
electrodes in the system. A demonstration apparatus was constructed, and
measured voltages are compared to predictions based on measured capacitances in
the system. The simplicity of the Cavallo multiplier makes it amenable to
electrostatic analysis using finite element software, and electrode shapes can
be optimized to take advantage of a high dielectric strength medium such as
liquid helium. A design study is presented for a Cavallo multiplier in a
large-scale, cryogenic experiment to measure the neutron electric dipole

Nimbus-7 ERB Solar Analysis Tape (ESAT) user's guide
Seven years and five months of Nimbus-7 Earth Radiation Budget (ERB) solar data are available on a single ERB Solar Analysis Tape (ESAT). The period covered is November 16, 1978 through March 31, 1986. The Nimbus-7 satellite performs approximately 14 orbits per day and the ERB solar telescope observes the sun once per orbit as the satellite crosses the southern terminator. The solar data were carefully calibrated and screened. Orbital and daily mean values are given for the total solar irradiance plus other spectral intervals (10 solar channels in all). In addition, selected solar activity indicators are included on the ESAT. The ESAT User's Guide is an update of the previous ESAT User's Guide (NASA TM 86143) and includes more detailed information on the solar data calibration, screening procedures, updated solar data plots, and applications to solar variability.
