High-Frequency Measurements Of The Spectrum Of Sagittarius A*
We report near-simultaneous interferometric measurements of the spectrum of Sagittarius A* over the 5-354 GHz range and single-dish observations that have yielded the first detection of Sgr A* at 850 GHz. We confirm that Sgr A*'s spectrum rises more steeply at short millimeter wavelengths than at centimeter wavelengths, leading to a near-millimeter/submillimeter excess that dominates its luminosity. Below 900 GHz, Sgr A*'s observed luminosity is 70 +/- 30 L.. A new upper limit to Sgr A*'s 24.3 mu m flux, together with a compilation of other extant IR data, imply a far-infrared spectral turnover, which can result from either an intrinsic synchrotron cutoff or excess extinction near Sgr A*. If the former applies, Sgr A*'s total synchrotron luminosity is <10(3) L., while in the latter case it is <3 x 10(4) L. if spherical symmetry also applies.NSF AST96-15025, AST96-13717Astronom

Dangerous, Desperate, and Homosexual: Cinematic Representations of the Male Prostitute as Fallen Angels
The purpose of this study is to frame the cinematic male prostitute as a "fallen angel" to demonstrate that the evolution of the cinematic hustler has paralleled historicized ideological definitions of male homosexuality. Because cultural understandings of male homosexuality frequently reflect Judeo-Christian ideological significations of sin and corruption, the term "fallen angel" is utilized to describe the hustler as a figure who has also succumbed to sin due to his sexual involvement with other men. This study constructs an epochal analysis of eight films that explores the confluence of the social understanding of homosexuality with the cinematic image of the hustler from the mid 1960s through the present. In doing so, this study shows that the image of the cinematic hustler is intricately tied to the image of the male homosexual in material cultures and eras that produce them. Pelatihan E-Assessment Berbasis Gamifacation Menggunakan aplikasi Quizizz Di SMAS YPK Merauke

Membrane interactions and the effect of metal ions of the amyloidogenic fragment Aβ(25–35) in comparison to Aβ(1–42)
AbstractAβ(1−42) peptide, found as aggregated species in Alzheimer's disease brain, is linked to the onset of Alzheimer's disease. Many reports have linked metals to inducing Aβ aggregation and amyloid plaque formation. Aβ(25–35), a fragment from the C-terminal end of Aβ(1−42), lacks the metal coordinating sites found in the full-length peptide and is neurotoxic to cortical cortex cell cultures. We report solid-state NMR studies of Aβ(25–35) in model lipid membrane systems of anionic phospholipids and cholesterol, and compare structural changes to those of Aβ(1–42). When added after vesicle formation, Aβ(25–35) was found to interact with the lipid headgroups and slightly perturb the lipid acyl-chain region; when Aβ(25–35) was included during vesicle formation, it inserted deeper into the bilayer. While Aβ(25–35) retained the same β-sheet structure irrespective of the mode of addition, the longer Aβ(1–42) appeared to have an increase in β-sheet structure at the C-terminus when added to phospholipid liposomes after vesicle formation. Since the Aβ(25–35) fragment is also neurotoxic, the full-length peptide may have more than one pathway for toxicity

Integrative genomic analysis of CREB defines a critical role for transcription factor networks in mediating the fed/fasted switch in liver
BACKGROUND: Metabolic homeostasis in mammals critically depends on the regulation of fasting-induced genes by CREB in the liver. Previous genome-wide analysis has shown that only a small percentage of CREB target genes are induced in response to fasting-associated signaling pathways. The precise molecular mechanisms by which CREB specifically targets these genes in response to alternating hormonal cues remain to be elucidated. RESULTS: We performed chromatin immunoprecipitation coupled to high-throughput sequencing of CREB in livers from both fasted and re-fed mice. In order to quantitatively compare the extent of CREB-DNA interactions genome-wide between these two physiological conditions we developed a novel, robust analysis method, termed the ‘single sample independence’ (SSI) test that greatly reduced the number of false-positive peaks. We found that CREB remains constitutively bound to its target genes in the liver regardless of the metabolic state. Integration of the CREB cistrome with expression microarrays of fasted and re-fed mouse livers and ChIP-seq data for additional transcription factors revealed that the gene expression switches between the two metabolic states are associated with co-localization of additional transcription factors at CREB sites. CONCLUSIONS: Our results support a model in which CREB is constitutively bound to thousands of target genes, and combinatorial interactions between DNA-binding factors are necessary to achieve the specific transcriptional response of the liver to fasting. Furthermore, our genome-wide analysis identifies thousands of novel CREB target genes in liver, and suggests a previously unknown role for CREB in regulating ER stress genes in response to nutrient influx
