Present Constraints on the H-dibaryon at the Physical Point from Lattice QCD
The current constraints from lattice QCD on the existence of the H-dibaryon
are discussed. With only two significant lattice QCD calculations of the
H-dibaryon binding energy at approximately the same lattice spacing, the forms
of the chiral and continuum extrapolations to the physical point are not
determined. In this brief report, we consider the constraints on the H-dibaryon
imposed by two simple chiral extrapolations. In both instances, the
extrapolation to the physical pion mass allows for a bound H-dibaryon or a
near-threshold scattering state. Further lattice QCD calculations are required

Placental vascular endothelial growth factor A (VEGF-A) gene and endoglin gene are both overexpressed in placental samples obtained from pregnancies with intrauterine growth restriction compared to normal pregnancies. In the background of these changes a mechanism can be supposed, in which the increased endoglin activity in intrauterine growth restriction (IUGR) leads to impaired placental circulation through an antioangiogenetic effect. This results in the development of placental vascular dysfunction and chronic fetal hypoxia. It is chronic hypoxia that turns on VEGF-A as a compensatory mechanism to improve fetal vascular blood supply by promoting placental blood vessel formation. Although the maternal serum placental growth factor (PlGF) level is a potential predictor for both IUGR and praeeclampsia, placental PlGF gene activity may be less of an active in the regulation of placental circulation in IUGR pregnancies during the later stages of gestation. The Kentucky Noisy Monte Carlo Algorithm for Wilson Dynamical Fermions
We develop an implementation for a recently proposed Noisy Monte Carlo
approach to the simulation of lattice QCD with dynamical fermions by
incorporating the full fermion determinant directly. Our algorithm uses a
quenched gauge field update with a shifted gauge coupling to minimize
fluctuations in the trace log of the Wilson Dirac matrix. The details of tuning
the gauge coupling shift as well as results for the distribution of noisy
estimators in our implementation are given. We present data for some basic
observables from the noisy method, as well as acceptance rate information and
discuss potential autocorrelation and sign violation effects. Both the results
and the efficiency of the algorithm are compared against those of Hybrid Monte
Carlo.

On Linear Programming Duality and Necessary and Sufficient Conditions in Minimax Theory
In this paper we discuss necessary and sufficient conditions for different minimax results to hold using only linear programming duality and the finite intersection property for compact sets. It turns out that these necessary and sufficient conditions have a clear interpretation within zero-sum game theory. We apply these results to derive necessary and sufficient conditions for strong duality for a general class of optimization problems

Hungary and the European Union: the political implications of societal security promotion
Hungary's constitutional commitment to support kin-nationals beyond its borders (nation policy) has been a central feature of its post-1989 foreign policy and highlights a particularly important national security concern—the societal security of national identity, culture, language and tradition. This article examines Hungary's societal security concerns and the policy methods it utilises, including its EU membership and the promotion of minority rights at the European level, to help combat these concerns. It is suggested that Hungary has found it somewhat difficult to balance its societal security policy objective with internal economic demands on its welfare system and its external foreign policy objective to maintain good neighbourly relations. This article also notes that Hungary's attempts to Europeanise, or rather 'EU-ise', minority and ethnic rights issues as a means to enhance societal security for the Hungarian nation has certain political consequences for the EU. This suggests that societal security provision is an issue that cannot be overlooked when trying to understand the longer-term implications of EU eastern enlargement
