    Joint Pricing and Purchasing Decisions for the Dual-Channel Newsvendor Model with Partial Information

    We investigate a joint pricing and purchasing problem for the dual-channel newsvendor model with the assumption that only the mean and variance of the demand are known. The newsvendor in our model simultaneously distributes a single product through traditional retail and Internet. A robust optimization approach that maximizes the worst-case profit is adapted under the aforementioned conditions to model demand uncertainty and linear clearing functions that characterize the relationship between demand and prices. We obtain a close-form expression for the robust optimal policy. Illustrative simulations and numerical experiments show the effects of several parameters on the optimal policy and on newsvendor performance. Finally, we determine that the gap between newsvendor performance under demand certainty and uncertainty is minimal, which shows that the robust approach can significantly improve performance

    Physiological Adaptive Strategies of Oil Seed Crop Ricinus communis Early Seedlings (Cotyledon vs. True Leaf) Under Salt and Alkali Stresses: From the Growth, Photosynthesis and Chlorophyll Fluorescence

    Ricinus communis is an important energy crop and is considered as one of the most potential plants for salt-alkali soil improvement in Northeast China. Early seedling stage (such as the cotyledon expansion stage) is always a vulnerable stage but plays a vital role in plant establishment, especially under stress conditions. However, little information exists concerning the function of cotyledon and the relationship between cotyledon and true leaf in the adaptation to salt stress and alkali stress of this species. Here, Ricinus communis seedlings were treated with varying (40, 80 and 120 mM) salinity (NaCl) and alkalinity (NaHCO3), growth, photosynthesis, and chlorophyll fluorescence of cotyledons and true leaves were measured. The results showed that the biomass, photosynthetic parameters, and the qp value of both cotyledons and true leaves decreased with increasing salt-alkali stress, and the decrease in biomass, gs and Tr, of true leaves were much greater than that of cotyledons. Salt-alkali stress only reduced photosynthetic pigments and ΦPSII in cotyledons, but did not affect those in true leaves. Additionally, the Fv/Fm and NPQ between cotyledons and true leaves showed different trends in salinity and alkalinity. The results suggested that alkali stress could cause much more damage to the castor bean seedlings, and different physiological responses and adaptive strategies are found in cotyledons and true leaves under salt-alkali stress. This study will help us develop a better understanding of the adaptation mechanisms of cotyledon and true leaf during early seedling stage of castor bean plant, and also provide new insights into the function of cotyledon in Ricinus communis under salt-alkali stress conditions

    A seismic prediction method of reservoir brittleness based on mineral composition and pore structure

    The Lucaogou Formation, a typical fine-grained mixed formation in the Jimusaer Sag of the Junggar Basin, exhibits considerable potential for hydrocarbon exploration. Accurate brittle prediction is a crucial factor in determining hydraulic fracturing effectiveness. However, the area features complex lithological characteristics, including carbonate rocks, clastic rocks, volcanic rocks, and gypsum interbeds, along with thin layering and sporadic sweet spots. Traditional prediction methods offer limited resolution and there is an urgent need for a seismic brittle prediction method tailored to this complex geological environment. This paper presents a multi-mineral composition equivalent model for complex lithologies that enables the accurate calculation of Vp and Vs These ratios serve as the foundation for pre-stack elastic parameter predictions, which include Poisson’s ratio and Young’s modulus. By comparing the predicted parameters with well-logging measurements, the prediction accuracy is improved to 82%, with particularly high conformity in intervals characterized by high organic matter and clay content. Additionally, a three-dimensional brittle modeling approach reveals that the brittleness of the reservoir exceeds that of the surrounding rock, showing a gradual improvement in brittleness with increasing burial depth from southeast to northwest. The central area exhibits relatively good brittleness, with a stable, blocky distribution pattern

    The feasibility of using soil seed bank for natural regeneration of degraded sandy grasslands

    Desertification in degraded grasslands is manifested through the development of bare sandy patches, which eventually lead to habitat fragmentation. The ability of these bare sandy patches to regenerate naturally through in-situ soil seed banks is not well understood. To fill this knowledge gap, we randomly selected 24 bare sandy patches with areas ranging from 19 to 898 m2 in a desertified grassland of the Horqin sandy land, Northern China to determine whether soil seed bank can be used for natural regeneration of bare sandy patches. Species composition and density of soil seed bank as well as aboveground vegetation composition, abundance and coverage were investigated. We then determined their relationships with in-situ habitat characteristics. Our observations showed that the studied area had low soil seed bank density and species richness, as well as depauperate soil seed bank communities. Consequently, local soil seed bank was not able to provide sufficient seed source for natural regeneration. This was indicated by the relationships between aboveground vegetation, soil seed bank and the in-situ habitat characteristics. For bare patches with an area between 300 m2 and 900 m2, increase the soil seed bank density and species richness should be the main restoration measures. For bare patches with a small area of less than 50 m2, restoration of vegetation density should be the main measure. Our data highlighted that different extents of desertification, indicated by different bare patches, are requiring distinct restoration measures

    Fast Neighbor Search By Using Revised K-D Tree

    We present two new neighbor query algorithms, including range query (RNN) and nearest neighbor (NN) query, based on revised k-d tree by using two techniques. The first technique is proposed for decreasing unnecessary distance computations by checking whether the cell of a node is inside or outside the specified neighborhood of query point, and the other is used to reduce redundant visiting nodes by saving the indices of descendant points. We also implement the proposed algorithms in Matlab and C. The Matlab version is to improve original RNN and NN which are based on k-d tree, C version is to improve k-Nearest neighbor query (kNN) which is based on buffer k-d tree. Theoretical and experimental analysis have shown that the proposed algorithms significantly improve the original RNN, NN and kNN in low dimension, respectively. The tradeoff is that the additional space cost of the revised k-d tree is approximately O(αnlog (n))
