    A novel semisupervised support vector machine classifier based on active learning and context information

    This paper proposes a novel semisupervised support vector machine classifier (Formula presented.) based on active learning (AL) and context information to solve the problem where the number of labeled samples is insufficient. Firstly, a new semisupervised learning method is designed using AL to select unlabeled samples as the semilabled samples, then the context information is exploited to further expand the selected samples and relabel them, along with the labeled samples train (Formula presented.) classifier. Next, a new query function is designed to enhance the reliability of the classification results by using the Euclidean distance between the samples. Finally, in order to enhance the robustness of the proposed algorithm, a fusion method is designed. Several experiments on change detection are performed by considering some real remote sensing images. The results show that the proposed algorithm in comparison with other algorithms can significantly improve the detection accuracy and achieve a fast convergence in addition to verify the effectiveness of the fusion method developed in this paper

    Over-expression of Arabidopsis DnaJ (Hsp40) contributes to NaCl-stress tolerance

    DnaJ (Hsp40), a heat shock protein, is a molecular chaperones responsive to various environmental stress. To analyze the protective role of DnaJ, we obtained sense transgenic Arabidopsis plants that constitutively expressed elevated levels of DnaJ. In this study, sense transgenic plants show large thinner, fade color and malformed leaves, as well as less floss of back leaves. Plants with enhanced levels of DnaJ in their transgenic sense lines exhibited tolerance to NaCl stress. Under 120 mM NaCl, root length was higher in transgenic sense plants than wild-type plants. In vitro expression system, DnaJ protein shows tolerance to high NaCl. These results suggest that over-expression of DnaJ can confer NaCl-stress tolerance

    We here describe the case of a patient diagnosed with primary lymphoma who underwent orthotopic heart transplantation.Postsurgically, the patient was treated with immunosuppressants and chemotherapy. Three months later, lesions were foundon the right side of the neck and the inferior vena cava; 12 months later, the lesion of the neck became smaller and the lesionof the inferior vena cava was not detected by positron emission tomography/computed tomography. The problems we encountered with this rare disease are discussed and compared to previous studies

    Label-free microfluidic paper-based electrochemical aptasensor for ultrasensitive and simultaneous multiplexed detection of cancer biomarkers

    Simultaneous detection of multiple tumor biomarkers in body fluids could facilitate early diagnosis of lung cancer, so as to provide scientific reference for clinical treatment. This paper depicted a multi-parameter paper-based electrochemical aptasensor for simultaneous detection of carcinoembryonic antigen (CEA) and neuron-specific enolase (NSE) in a clinical sample with high sensitivity and specificity. The paper-based device was fabricated through wax printing and screen-printing, which enabled functions of sample filtration and sample auto injection. Amino functional graphene (NG)-Thionin (THI)- gold nanoparticles (AuNPs) and Prussian blue (PB)- poly (3,4- ethylenedioxythiophene) (PEDOT)- AuNPs nanocomposites were synthesized respectively. They were used to modify the working electrodes not only for promoting the electron transfer rate, but also for immobilization of the CEA and NSE aptamers. A label-free electrochemical method was adopted, enabling a rapid simple point-of-care testing. Experimental results showed that the proposed multi-parameter aptasensor exhibited good linearity in ranges of 0.01-500 ng mL for CEA (R  = 0.989) and 0.05-500 ng mL for NSE (R  = 0.944), respectively. The limit of detection (LOD) was 2 pg mL for CEA and 10 pg mL for NSE. In addition, the device was evaluated using clinical serum samples and received a good correlation with large electrochemical luminescence (ECL) equipment, which would offer a new platform for early cancer diagnostics, especially in those resource-limit areas

    A Highly Efficient Dual Rotating Disks Photocatalytic Fuel Cell with Wedged Surface TiO2 Nanopore Anode and Hemoglobin Film Cathode

    In this study, a dual rotating-disk photocatalytic fuel cell using TiO2 on Ti plate with a wedged surface as the anode and hemoglobin (Hb) on graphite as the cathode was investigated and found to show excellent performance of simultaneous organic pollutant degradation and electricity generation. This study is based on a well-developed photocatalytic fuel cell equipped with dual rotating disks for wastewater treatment that we developed previously, and the innovation of this new device is using a hemoglobin on graphite cathode for in situ hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) generation. The result proved with confidence that H2O2 was generated in situ on a cathode surface with the exited electron transferred from organic oxidation in a photoanodic half cell, and the organic pollutants were removed by the reaction with H2O2 and OH in a cathodic half cell. This design uses the invalid excited electron from the photoanode and enhances the overall performance of Rhodamine B degradation compared with the cells using the cathode without Hb. Compared with traditional photocatalytic reactors, the photocatalytic fuel cell developed above shows much better utilization efficiency of incident light and a higher degradation performance of organic pollutants and a larger photocurrent
