    Cryptanalyzing an image encryption algorithm based on autoblocking and electrocardiography

    This paper performs a thorough security analysis of a chaotic image encryption algorithm based on autoblocking and electrocardiography from the view point of modern cryptography. The algorithm uses electrocardiography (ECG) signals to generate the initial key for a chaotic system and applies an autoblocking method to divide a plain image into blocks of certain sizes suitable for subsequent encryption. The designers claimed that the proposed algorithm is “strong and flexible enough for practical applications”. We find it is vulnerable to the known plaintext attack: based on one pair of a known plain-image and its corresponding cipher-image, an adversary is able to derive a mask image, which can be used as an equivalent secret key to successfully decrypt other cipher images encrypted under the same key with a non-negligible probability of 1/256. Using this as a typical counterexample, we summarize some security defects existing in many image encryption algorithms

    Coordinate-free formation control of multi-agent systems using rooted graphs

    This paper studies how to control large formations of autonomous agents in the plane, assuming that each agent is able to sense relative positions of its neighboring agents with respect to its own local coordinate system. We tackle the problem by adopting two types of controllers. First, we use the classical gradient-based controllers on three leader agents to meet their distance constraints. Second, we develop other type of controllers for follower agents: utilizing the properties of rooted graphs, one is able to design linear controllers incorporating relative positions between the follower agents and their neighbors, to stabilize the overall large formations. The advantages of the proposed method are fourfold: (i) fewer constraints on neighboring relationship graphs; (ii) simplicity of linear controllers for follower agents; (iii) global convergence of the overall formations; (iv) implementation in local coordinate systems, in no need of a global coordinate system.     Cryptanalysis of a Chaotic Image Encryption Algorithm Based on Information Entropy

    Recently, a chaotic image encryption algorithm based on information entropy (IEAIE) was proposed. This paper scrutinizes the security properties of the algorithm and evaluates the validity of the used quantifiable security metrics. When the round number is only one, the equivalent secret key of every basic operation of IEAIE can be recovered with a differential attack separately. Some common insecurity problems in the field of chaotic image encryption are found in IEAIE, e.g. the short orbits of the digital chaotic system and the invalid sensitivity mechanism built on information entropy of the plain image. Even worse, each security metric is questionable, which undermines the security credibility of IEAIE.     How Biomimetic Morphing Dorsal Fin Affects the Swimming Performance of a Free-swimming Tuna Robot

    It is well known that tuna fish in the ocean can dynamically morph their median fins to achieve optimal hydrodynamic performance, e.g. linear acceleration and maneuverability. In this study, based on the previous studies about the median fin's hydrodynamic effects focusing on tethered conditions, we continue to explore the hydrodynamic function of tuna morphing dorsal fin in free swimming conditions for better approaching real-life situations.Here, we developed a tuna-inspired robotic fish platform that can swim independently in three dimensions, equipped with a biomimetic morphing dorsal fin magnetically attached to the robotic fish. Based on the free-swimming robotic fish platform, we investigated how the erected dorsal fin affects the speed, cost of transport (COT), and robotic fish's yaw angle at different frequencies and amplitudes. The erected dorsal fin plays a positive role in improving the yaw stability of robotic fish. However, it shows little influence on the speed and COT in our test.     Mortality from gastrointestinal congenital anomalies at 264 hospitals in 74 low-income, middle-income, and high-income countries: a multicentre, international, prospective cohort study

    Summary Background Congenital anomalies are the fifth leading cause of mortality in children younger than 5 years globally. Many gastrointestinal congenital anomalies are fatal without timely access to neonatal surgical care, but few studies have been done on these conditions in low-income and middle-income countries (LMICs). We compared outcomes of the seven most common gastrointestinal congenital anomalies in low-income, middle-income, and high-income countries globally, and identified factors associated with mortality. Methods We did a multicentre, international prospective cohort study of patients younger than 16 years, presenting to hospital for the first time with oesophageal atresia, congenital diaphragmatic hernia, intestinal atresia, gastroschisis, exomphalos, anorectal malformation, and Hirschsprung’s disease. Recruitment was of consecutive patients for a minimum of 1 month between October, 2018, and April, 2019. We collected data on patient demographics, clinical status, interventions, and outcomes using the REDCap platform. Patients were followed up for 30 days after primary intervention, or 30 days after admission if they did not receive an intervention. The primary outcome was all-cause, in-hospital mortality for all conditions combined and each condition individually, stratified by country income status. We did a complete case analysis. Findings We included 3849 patients with 3975 study conditions (560 with oesophageal atresia, 448 with congenital diaphragmatic hernia, 681 with intestinal atresia, 453 with gastroschisis, 325 with exomphalos, 991 with anorectal malformation, and 517 with Hirschsprung’s disease) from 264 hospitals (89 in high-income countries, 166 in middleincome countries, and nine in low-income countries) in 74 countries. Of the 3849 patients, 2231 (58·0%) were male. Median gestational age at birth was 38 weeks (IQR 36–39) and median bodyweight at presentation was 2·8 kg (2·3–3·3). Mortality among all patients was 37 (39·8%) of 93 in low-income countries, 583 (20·4%) of 2860 in middle-income countries, and 50 (5·6%) of 896 in high-income countries (p<0·0001 between all country income groups). Gastroschisis had the greatest difference in mortality between country income strata (nine [90·0%] of ten in lowincome countries, 97 [31·9%] of 304 in middle-income countries, and two [1·4%] of 139 in high-income countries; p≀0·0001 between all country income groups). Factors significantly associated with higher mortality for all patients combined included country income status (low-income vs high-income countries, risk ratio 2·78 [95% CI 1·88–4·11], p<0·0001; middle-income vs high-income countries, 2·11 [1·59–2·79], p<0·0001), sepsis at presentation (1·20 [1·04–1·40], p=0·016), higher American Society of Anesthesiologists (ASA) score at primary intervention (ASA 4–5 vs ASA 1–2, 1·82 [1·40–2·35], p<0·0001; ASA 3 vs ASA 1–2, 1·58, [1·30–1·92], p<0·0001]), surgical safety checklist not used (1·39 [1·02–1·90], p=0·035), and ventilation or parenteral nutrition unavailable when needed (ventilation 1·96, [1·41–2·71], p=0·0001; parenteral nutrition 1·35, [1·05–1·74], p=0·018). Administration of parenteral nutrition (0·61, [0·47–0·79], p=0·0002) and use of a peripherally inserted central catheter (0·65 [0·50–0·86], p=0·0024) or percutaneous central line (0·69 [0·48–1·00], p=0·049) were associated with lower mortality. Interpretation Unacceptable differences in mortality exist for gastrointestinal congenital anomalies between lowincome, middle-income, and high-income countries. Improving access to quality neonatal surgical care in LMICs will be vital to achieve Sustainable Development Goal 3.2 of ending preventable deaths in neonates and children younger than 5 years by 2030

    Abstract-In a multi-agent system (MAS), the agents are often considered to be autonomous entities, such as robots or software programs, each under the influence of a local rule, representing its interaction with other agents. Over the past few years, most research in the study of discrete-time MAS&apos;s concentrates on linear local rules. However, local interactions between agents are more likely to be governed by nonlinear rules with time-varying delays. This paper investigates the consensus of discrete-time MAS&apos;s with nonlinear local rules and time-varying delays. Based on a representative model, we obtain some basic criteria for the consensus of such MAS&apos;s. These results cover several existing results as special cases. Moreover, the above criteria are applied to the consensus of the classical Vicsek model with time-varying delays. Simulation results are presented to validate the obtained criteria

    In the top submerged lance (TSL) smelting process, flow boiling may occur in the lance’s inner pipe due to the heat coming from the furnace when liquid fuel is adopted. In the current study, a numerical simulation was carried out by coupling the Eulerian two-fluid model with the improved RPI wall boiling model to investigate the subcooled n-heptane flow boiling in the inner pipe. The effects of inlet velocity and pipe wall emissivity on two-phase flow and heat transfer are elucidated. The results show that, for pipes with inlet velocity ranging from 0.3 m·s−1 to 1.0 m·s−1, an increase in inlet velocity leads to a lower void fraction near the outlet, as well as a lower average velocity and a lower average temperature of each phase. Meanwhile, the Onset of Nucleate Boiling (ONB) position approaches to the outlet, and the total pressure drop of the entire pipe reduces when the inlet velocity increases. However, the opposite trends appear when increasing the pipe wall emissivity. The maximum wall temperature corresponding to the critical heat flux (CHF) point is slightly affected by inlet velocity but significantly affected by pipe wall emissivity. The non-equilibrium effect and the specific components of pressure drop are also further investigated
