NAPZA stands for Narcotics, Psychotropics, and other Addictive Substances. The use of drugs is very dangerous for both mental and physical health of users. Drug users are at risk for impaired brain development, suicide and depression, memory loss, high risk for sexual behavior, addiction, impaired decision making, poor academic performance, violence, and motor vehicle accidents. Adolescent development is very vulnerable to the influence of the environment in everyday life. The transition period of adolescent development from children to adults is not only about age but also involves biological, cognitive, and socio-emotional changes. Changes in children's behavior, some in a positive direction and some in a negative direction. One of the negative behaviors is teenagers with habitual behavior of consuming alcohol. The many impacts experienced by drug abusers so that a treatment program is needed for those who have experienced drug abuse and anticipation for those who have not been entangled in using drugs, especially from the age of teenagers/students. This service is carried out on 12th grade high school students who are students of transition age to adolescence because in the next 3 years they will move into the teenage level. Through this service activity, it is expected to be able to provide understanding to SMAN 13 Takalar students about the dangers suffered by drug abuse, types and types of narcotics and how to overcome them. The method used provides a presentation of the correct understanding of drugs, discussions, questions and answers, the dangers and effective steps so that students can suppress negative behavior and abuse of drugs and harmful additives. In the activities carried out for approximately 4 hours, the children were very enthusiastic and became aware of the definition, forms, uses and dangers of drugs and committed not to use them in the future. The use of cessation assistance among smokers from China: Findings from the ITC China Survey

    Get PDF

Abstract

Background

Stop smoking medications significantly increase the likelihood of smoking cessation. However, there are no population-based studies of stop-smoking medication use in China, the largest tobacco market in the world. This study examined stop-smoking medication use and its association with quitting behavior among a population-based sample of Chinese smokers.

Methods

Face-to-face interviews were conducted with 4,627 smokers from six cities in the ITC China cohort survey. Longitudinal analyses were conducted using Wave 1 (April to August, 2006) and Wave 2 (November 2007 to January 2008).

Results

Approximately 26% of smokers had attempted to quit between Waves 1 and 2, and 6% were abstinent at 18-month follow-up. Only 5.8% of those attempting to quit reported NRT use and NRT was associated with lower odds of abstinence at Wave 2 (OR = 0.11; 95%CI = 0.03-0.46). Visiting a doctor/health professional was associated with greater attempts to quit smoking (OR = 1.60 and 2.78; 95%CI = 1.22-2.10 and 2.21-3.49 respectively) and being abstinent (OR = 1.77 and 1.85; 95%CI = 1.18-2.66 and 1.13-3.04 respectively) at 18-month follow-up relative to the smokers who did not visit doctor/health professional.

Conclusions

The use of formal help for smoking cessation is low in China. There is an urgent need to explore the use and effectiveness of stop-smoking medications in China and in other non-Western markets.</p

Epigenetic Modification of TLRs in Leukocytes Is Associated with Increased Susceptibility to Salmonella enteritidis in Chickens

Toll-like receptors (TLRs) signaling pathways are the first lines in defense against Salmonella enteritidis (S. enteritidis) infection but the molecular mechanism underlying susceptibility to S. enteritidis infection in chicken remains unclear. SPF chickens injected with S. enteritidis were partitioned into two groups, one consisted of those from Salmonella-susceptible chickens (died within 5 d after injection, n = 6), the other consisted of six Salmonella-resistant chickens that survived for 15 d after injection. The present study shows that the bacterial load in susceptible chickens was significantly higher than that in resistant chickens and TLR4, TLR2-1 and TLR21 expression was strongly diminished in the leukocytes of susceptible chickens compared with those of resistant chickens. The induction of expression of pro-inflammatory cytokine genes, IL-6 and IFN-β, was greatly enhanced in the resistant but not in susceptible chickens. Contrasting with the reduced expression of TLR genes, those of the zinc finger protein 493 (ZNF493) gene and Toll-interacting protein (TOLLIP) gene were enhanced in the susceptible chickens. Finally, the expression of TLR4 in peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMCs) infected in vitro with S. enteritidis increased significantly as a result of treatment with 5-Aza-2-deoxycytidine (5-Aza-dc) while either 5-Aza-dc or trichostatin A was effective in up-regulating the expression of TLR21 and TLR2-1. DNA methylation, in the predicted promoter region of TLR4 and TLR21 genes, and an exonic CpG island of the TLR2-1 gene was significantly higher in the susceptible chickens than in resistant chickens. Taken together, the results demonstrate that ZNF493-related epigenetic modification in leukocytes probably accounts for increased susceptibility to S. enteritidis in chickens by diminishing the expression and response of TLR4, TLR21 and TLR2-1

Differentially expressed genes in a flock of Chinese local-breed chickens infected with a subgroup J avian leukosis virus using suppression subtractive hybridization

    Get PDF
Avian leukosis virus subgroup J (ALV-J) is a new type of virus that mainly induces myeloid leukosis (ML) in chickens. To further elucidate the pathogenesis of ALV-J infection and tumor development, expression profiles from the bone marrow tissue of 15 infected and 18 non-infected birds from a local-breed poultry-farm under naturally infected conditions, were analyzed by suppression-subtractive hybridization. The birds were diagnosed as ML+ (or ML-) by specific ALV-J detection methods, involving serological tests for antigens and antibodies, and RT-PCR to detect viral RNA. A total of 59 partial gene sequences were revealed by differential screening of 496 forward and 384 reverse subtracted cDNA clones. Of these, 22 identified genes, including 8 up-regulated and 14 down-regulated, were related to immune functions, these genes being, MHC B-G antigen, translationally-controlled tumor protein (TPT1/TPTC), transferrin and ferritin, hemoglobin and Carbonic anhydrase. Four of the down-regulated genes were selected for further analysis, in view of their predicted roles in infection and immunity by real-time qRT-PCR, using RNA collected from the same birds as those used for SSH. The four genes were expressed at significantly lower levels (p < 0.001) in ALV-J infected birds than in non-infected ones

SWOT analysis on the importance of Egypt and Sudan logistics transportation networks: a systematic literature review

    Get PDF
Purpose: The aim of this research is to illustrate systematic literature review, investigating the importance of Egypt & Sudan cooperation in terms of logistics and transport networks through conducting a SWOT analysis to determine the main opportunities and barriers behind this cooperation and how to overcome these barriers.Design/Methodology/Approach: In order to highlight Egypt and Sudan relations to offer and integrate various transportation networks and methods, a systematic literature review of 34 published research papers on Egypt and Sudan connectivity was conducted over 18 years. The main goal was to report on the most important research studies that matched the research keywords across multiple databases, report the research gap by displaying the research theoretical framework, and state what other researchers should consider. Consequential is the strategic analytical tool; SWOT analysis is based on the results of the systematic review analysis to evaluate internal strengths and weaknesses as well as external opportunities and threats and that Egypt should address in integrating with Sudan.Findings: It was determined that an insufficient number of research investigations has used the waterway connection to impede the flow of commerce to ascertain multimodal transportation. There has also been no additional investigation into the border terminals and route networks between Egypt and Sudan, which could potentially help in the enhancement of the countries’ import and export operations. Taking into consideration the main results and variables of the study, that should be tested in further studies, as it was found that enhancing activities, services, and hubs may be beneficial to the transportation networks, seaports, and logistics networks that surround the two nations.Research Implications/Limitations: This research presents a narrative and systematic representation of logistics transportation networks resulting in pointing up the research theoretical framework, then a SWOT analysis to highlight the main strength points and opportunities for Egypt and Sudan for their transport and logistics development; attaining greater benefits for the two nations, but achieving this goal will require additional research and fact-finding.Originality: Through identifying the effects of collaboration on the transport sector by enhancing inter-modality services and logistics services between the two nations, the research provides a significant addition to the literature, as there were a lack of studies investigating the cooperation between Egypt and Sudan and limited studies highlighting its importance. The theoretical models and findings from actual investigations developed by the researchers will aid in the infrastructure of transport networks connecting Egypt and Sudan, but this will necessitate extensive research and testing.</p

Incidence of two canals in extracted mandibular incisors teeth of Saudi Arabian samples

    No full text
Aim: The purpose of this in vitro study is to provide clinical data on the presence of the second canal in mandibular incisor teeth of Saudi Arabian Samples. Materials and Methods: Eighty extracted human mandibular incisors were collected from Saudi patients. The teeth were accessed by small round bur then placed in 5.25% sodium hypochlorite for 24 hours to dissolve the organic debris. Indian ink was injected inside the root canal systems under negative pressure. The teeth were decalcified in 5% nitric acid for three days then dehydrated in different concentrations of ethyl alcohol. Following the decalcification process, the teeth were cleared in methyl salicylate and evaluated according to Vertucci′s classification. Result: Fifty six of both mandibular central and lateral incisor teeth (70%) had type I canal configuration (one main canal and one main apical foramen), while the remaining 30% of the sample (24 teeth) had a type III canal configuration (two separate canals and merged into one canal before exiting the tooth through single apical foramen). Conclusion : The incidence of two canals in mandibular incisor teeth is about one third of the examined Saudi Arabian samples with no difference between the centrals and laterals. The clinician should deal with these teeth as if they have two canals unless it is proved otherwise
