    Fixed-time safe tracking control of uncertain high-order nonlinear pure-feedback systems via unified transformation functions

    summary:In this paper, a fixed-time safe control problem is investigated for an uncertain high-order nonlinear pure-feedback system with state constraints. A new nonlinear transformation function is firstly proposed to handle both the constrained and unconstrained cases in a unified way. Further, a radial basis function neural network is constructed to approximate the unknown dynamics in the system and a fixed-time dynamic surface control (FDSC) technique is developed to facilitate the fixed-time control design for the uncertain high-order pure-feedback system. Combined with the proposed unified transformation function and the FDSC technique, an adaptive fixed-time control strategy is proposed to guarantee the fixed-time tracking. The novel original results of the paper allow to design the independent unified flexible fixed-time control strategy taking into account the actual possible constraints, either present or missing. Numerical examples are presented to demonstrate the proposed fixed-time tracking control strategy

    Magnesium Alleviates Adverse Effects of Lead on Growth, Photosynthesis, and Ultrastructural Alterations of Torreya grandis Seedlings

    Magnesium (Mg2+) has been shown to reduce the physiological and biochemical stress in plants caused by heavy metals. To date our understanding of how Mg2+ ameliorates the adverse effects of heavy metals in plants is scarce. The potential effect of Mg2+ on lead (Pb2+) toxicity in plants has not yet been studied. This study was designed to clarify the mechanism of Mg2+-induced alleviation of lead (Pb2+) toxicity. Torreya grandis (T. grandis) seedlings were grown in substrate contaminated with 0, 700 and 1400 mg Pb2+ per kg-1 and with or without the addition of 1040 mg kg-1 Mg2+. Growth parameters, concentrations of Pb2+ and Mg2+ in the plants’ shoots and roots, photosynthetic pigment, gas exchange parameters, the maximum quantum efficiency (Fv/Fm), root oxidative activity, ultrastructure of chloroplasts and root growth were determined to analyze the effect of different Pb2+ concentrations in the seedlings as well as the potential ameliorating effect of Mg2+ on the Pb2+ induced toxicity. The growth of T. grandis seedlings cultivated in soils treated with 1400 mg kg-1 Pb2+ was significantly reduced compared with that of plants cultivated in soils treated with 0 or 700 mg kg-1 Pb2+. The addition of 1040 mg kg-1 Mg2+ improved the growth of the Pb2+-stressed seedlings, which was accompanied by increased chlorophyll content, the net photosynthetic rate and Fv/Fm, and enhanced chloroplasts development. In addition, the application of Mg2+ induced plants to accumulate five times higher concentrations of Pb2+ in the roots and to absorb and translocate four times higher concentrations of Mg2+ to the shoots than those without Mg2+ application. Furthermore, Mg2+ addition increased root growth and oxidative activity, and protected the root ultrastructure. To the best of our knowledge, our study is the first report on the mechanism of Mg2+-induced alleviation of Pb2+ toxicity. The gener¬ated results may have important implications for understanding the physiological interactions between heavy metals and plants, and for successful management of T. grandis plantations grown on soils contaminated with Pb2+

    Complex Locomotion Skill Learning via Differentiable Physics

    Differentiable physics enables efficient gradient-based optimizations of neural network (NN) controllers. However, existing work typically only delivers NN controllers with limited capability and generalizability. We present a practical learning framework that outputs unified NN controllers capable of tasks with significantly improved complexity and diversity. To systematically improve training robustness and efficiency, we investigated a suite of improvements over the baseline approach, including periodic activation functions, and tailored loss functions. In addition, we find our adoption of batching and an Adam optimizer effective in training complex locomotion tasks. We evaluate our framework on differentiable mass-spring and material point method (MPM) simulations, with challenging locomotion tasks and multiple robot designs. Experiments show that our learning framework, based on differentiable physics, delivers better results than reinforcement learning and converges much faster. We demonstrate that users can interactively control soft robot locomotion and switch among multiple goals with specified velocity, height, and direction instructions using a unified NN controller trained in our system.     Key technologies for on-orbit azimuth antenna pattern measurement of TH-2 dual satellites

    On-orbit (inflight) measurement of the antenna pattern of space-borne synthetic aperture radar (SAR) is an indispensable and important procedure for SAR calibration, performance tuning and index test. Usually, in practical on-orbit (inflight) measurement of the SAR antenna pattern, it is separated into the vertical (elevation) and the horizontal (azimuth) directions respectively. The TH-2 satellite set is made up of two satellites to enable bistatic interferometry SAR (InSAR) observation. At the beginning of the on-orbit tests, the two satellites adopted a "following" flying formation in which one satellite flew about 40 km away after the other one. In this phase, the two satellites worked independently in SAR observation model to facilitate calibration, tuning and test of the satellites individually. When conducting the azimuth antenna pattern measurement, the collected signals from the two satellites in the ground receiver were overlapped (interleaved) and superposed, leading to the difficulty of measurement with the method designed for only one satellite. Aiming at solving this problem, an efficient and fully automated signal separation method for azimuth antenna pattern measurement is proposed. Based on the modeling and analysis of the sampled signal in the ground receiver, a novel signal separation method based on three main parts: key pulse rising edge extraction, pulse position estimation and pulse amplitude estimation is proposed to realize the separation of the signals from different satellites. After signal separation, the subsequent antenna pattern measurement tasks can be done using the traditional single-satellite method. Experimental results sufficiently show the effectiveness of the proposed method. This method escorted the on-orbit tests of the satellites smoothly, and the test efficiency can be doubled compared with the individual test of each single satellite.     Stromal protein CCN family contributes to the poor prognosis in lower-grade gioma by modulating immunity, matrix, stemness, and metabolism

    Background: The CCN family of stromal proteins is involved in the regulation of many important biological functions. However, the role of dysregulated CCN proteins in lower-grade glioma (LGG) remain less understand.Methods: The clinical significance of the CCN proteins was explored based on RNA-seq profiles from multiple cohorts. A CCNScore was constructed using LASSO regression analysis. The PanCanAtlas data and MEXPRESS database were employed to elucidate molecular underpinnings.Results: The expression of CCN4 was associated with poor prognosis in LGG. The CCNScore (CCN1 = 0.06, CCN4 = 0.86) showed implication in prognosis prediction, subtype assessment and therapy selection. The gene mutation pattern of the high-CCNScore group was similar with glioblastoma, including EGFR, PTEN, and NF1 mutation frequently. Besides, the high-CCNScore group was comprised of samples mainly classic-like and mesenchymal-like, had lower methylation levels, higher stemness, higher inflammation, higher levels of extracellular matrix remodel and dysfunction of metabolic pathways. On the other hand, the low-CCNScore group consisted mainly of IDH-mutation LGG, and was characterized by TP53, CIC, and ATRX gene mutations, hyper-methylation status, lower stemness, lower proliferation, immune quietness and low extracellular matrix stiffness.Conclusion: In summary, these results outlined the role of CCN family in LGG and provided a potential and promising therapeutic target

    Methylprednisolone as Adjunct to Endovascular Thrombectomy for Large-Vessel Occlusion Stroke

    Importance It is uncertain whether intravenous methylprednisolone improves outcomes for patients with acute ischemic stroke due to large-vessel occlusion (LVO) undergoing endovascular thrombectomy. Objective To assess the efficacy and adverse events of adjunctive intravenous low-dose methylprednisolone to endovascular thrombectomy for acute ischemic stroke secondary to LVO. Design, Setting, and Participants This investigator-initiated, randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled trial was implemented at 82 hospitals in China, enrolling 1680 patients with stroke and proximal intracranial LVO presenting within 24 hours of time last known to be well. Recruitment took place between February 9, 2022, and June 30, 2023, with a final follow-up on September 30, 2023.InterventionsEligible patients were randomly assigned to intravenous methylprednisolone (n = 839) at 2 mg/kg/d or placebo (n = 841) for 3 days adjunctive to endovascular thrombectomy. Main Outcomes and Measures The primary efficacy outcome was disability level at 90 days as measured by the overall distribution of the modified Rankin Scale scores (range, 0 [no symptoms] to 6 [death]). The primary safety outcomes included mortality at 90 days and the incidence of symptomatic intracranial hemorrhage within 48 hours. Results Among 1680 patients randomized (median age, 69 years; 727 female [43.3%]), 1673 (99.6%) completed the trial. The median 90-day modified Rankin Scale score was 3 (IQR, 1-5) in the methylprednisolone group vs 3 (IQR, 1-6) in the placebo group (adjusted generalized odds ratio for a lower level of disability, 1.10 [95% CI, 0.96-1.25]; P = .17). In the methylprednisolone group, there was a lower mortality rate (23.2% vs 28.5%; adjusted risk ratio, 0.84 [95% CI, 0.71-0.98]; P = .03) and a lower rate of symptomatic intracranial hemorrhage (8.6% vs 11.7%; adjusted risk ratio, 0.74 [95% CI, 0.55-0.99]; P = .04) compared with placebo. Conclusions and Relevance Among patients with acute ischemic stroke due to LVO undergoing endovascular thrombectomy, adjunctive methylprednisolone added to endovascular thrombectomy did not significantly improve the degree of overall disability.Trial RegistrationChiCTR.org.cn Identifier: ChiCTR210005172
