A Novel Stator Doubly Fed Doubly Salient Permanent Magnet Brushless Machine

    Get PDF
A novel stator doubly fed doubly salient permanent magnet (PM) brushless machine is proposed. The novelty of this machine is to purposely add an extra flux path in shunt with each PM pole, hence amplifying the effect of flux weakening for constant power operation. Magnetic circuit analysis is adopted to illustrate the novelty. Machine flux paths and performance curves determined by a finite-element analysis are presented for various excitations. The corresponding results show that the proposed machine is promising for application to electric vehicles.published_or_final_versio

    Get PDF
In this paper, a new outer-rotor permanent magnet (PM) brushless dc drive is designed and analyzed. To enable this drive applicable to electric vehicles, its transient performances at both normal and flux-weakening operations are particularly focused. The distinct feature in design is due to the new motor configuration including the outer-rotor topology, the multipole magnetic circuit and the full slot-pitch coil span arrangement. The distinct feature in analysis is due to the development of the circuit-field-torque coupled time-stepping finite-element method. The proposed PM brushless dc drive is prototyped. The analysis results are verified by experimental measurement.published_or_final_versio

Design of a novel phase-decoupling permanent magnet brushless ac motor

    Get PDF
This paper presents a phase-decoupling permanent magnet brushless ac motor which can offer better controllability, faster response, and smoother torque than its counterparts. The key is due to its different motor configuration and simple scalar control. The motor configuration is so unique that it inherently offers the features of phase decoupling, flux focusing, and flux shaping, hence achieving independent phase control, fast response, and smooth torque. The scalar control is fundamentally different from the complicated vector control. It can achieve direct torque control through independent control of the phase currents. The proposed motor is prototyped and experimentally verified. © 2005 American Institute of Physics.published_or_final_versio

    Get PDF
In this paper, a new multiphase polygonal-winding permanent-magnet brushless dc (PMBDC) machine is proposed anal analyzed. The originality of the proposed machine lies on the multiphase polygonal-winding stator anal the surface-inset permanent-magnet rotor. Because of its unique structure and operating principle, a circuit-field-torque coupled time stepping finite-element method is also employed for analysis. The designed machine is prototyped and the analysis is verified by experimentation.published_or_final_versio

Scalar control of a new phase-decoupling permanent magnet synchronous motor for servo application

    Get PDF
This paper presents a new scalar-controlled phase-decoupling permanent magnet synchronous motor (PD-PMSM) which takes the advantages of smooth torque, fast response and good controllability for servo applications. Because of the PD nature, the proposed scalar control strategy can simply adjust the phase current amplitude and its angle with respect to the back EMF to achieve direct torque control. Experimental results are given to verify the advantages of the proposed scalar-controlled PD-PMSM. © 2005 IEEE.published_or_final_versio

Design of a magnetic-geared outer-rotor permanent-magnet brushless motor for electric vehicles

    Get PDF
This paper proposes a novel in-wheel motor, which artfully integrates a magnetic gear into a permanent-magnet brushless (PMBL) DC motor so that they can share a common PM rotor, hence offering both high efficiency and high power density. Moreover, the low-speed requirement for direct driving and the high-speed requirement for compact motor design can be achieved simultaneously. A 2-kW 600/4400-rpm magnetic-geared outer-rotor PMBL DC motor is designed and analyzed, which is particularly suitable for battery-powered electric motorcycles. © 2007 IEEE.published_or_final_versio

Analysis of doubly salient memory motors using preisach theory

    Get PDF
With the introduction of doubly salient memory (DSM) motors, the flux controllability and hence the speed range of permanent magnet (PM) motors have reached a new height. This paper presents a new method to accurately analyze the DSM motor. The key is to incorporate the general expressions of the Preisach hysteresis model (PHM) of the AlNiCo-PM into the time-stepping finite element method (TS-FEM). Based on the proposed PHM-TS-FEM, both static and transient performances of the DSM motor are successfully simulated. Finally, the validity and accuracy of the proposed method are verified by experimental results. © 2009 IEEE.published_or_final_versio

Comparison of coaxial magnetic gears with different topologies

    Get PDF
This paper quantitatively compares two coaxial magnetic gears (CMGs) with different topologies, namely, the CMG installed with radially magnetized permanent magnets (CMGRM) and the CMG installed with Halbach magnetized permanent magnets (CMGHM). By using the 3D finite element method, the end-effect and the performances of both CMGs are investigated. Analysis results show that the CMGHM can offer higher pull-out torque, lower torque ripple and lower iron losses than the CMGRM. Experimental results are also given for verification. © 2009 IEEE.published_or_final_versio

    Resonances in J/ψ→ϕπ+π−J/\psi \to \phi \pi ^+\pi ^- and ϕK+K−\phi K^+K^-

    A partial wave analysis is presented of J/ψ→ϕπ+π−J/\psi \to \phi \pi ^+\pi ^- and ϕK+K−\phi K^+K^- from a sample of 58M J/ψJ/\psi events in the BES II detector. The f0(980)f_0(980) is observed clearly in both sets of data, and parameters of the Flatt\' e formula are determined accurately: M=965±8M = 965 \pm 8 (stat) ±6\pm 6 (syst) MeV/c2^2, g1=165±10±15g_1 = 165 \pm 10 \pm 15 MeV/c2^2, g2/g1=4.21±0.25±0.21g_2/g_1 = 4.21 \pm 0.25 \pm 0.21. The ϕππ\phi \pi \pi data also exhibit a strong ππ\pi \pi peak centred at M=1335M = 1335 MeV/c2^2. It may be fitted with f2(1270)f_2(1270) and a dominant 0+0^+ signal made from f0(1370)f_0(1370) interfering with a smaller f0(1500)f_0(1500) component. There is evidence that the f0(1370)f_0(1370) signal is resonant, from interference with f2(1270)f_2(1270). There is also a state in ππ\pi \pi with M=1790−30+40M = 1790 ^{+40}_{-30} MeV/c2^2 and Γ=270−30+60\Gamma = 270 ^{+60}_{-30} MeV/c2^2; spin 0 is preferred over spin 2. This state, f0(1790)f_0(1790), is distinct from f0(1710)f_0(1710). The ϕKKˉ\phi K\bar K data contain a strong peak due to f2′(1525)f_2'(1525). A shoulder on its upper side may be fitted by interference between f0(1500)f_0(1500) and f0(1710)f_0(1710).Comment: 17 pages, 6 figures, 1 table. Submitted to Phys. Lett.
