In the title molecule, C17H18O5, which was prepared by the reaction of (R)-1,5-dioxaspiro[5.5]undecane-2,4-dione and 4-methoxybenzaldehyde with ethanol, the 1,3-dioxane ring is in a distorted envelope conformation with the spiro C atom forming the flap. The crystal structure is stabilized by weak intermolecular C—H⋯O hydrogen bonds

800nm fiber Bragg Grating sensing interrogation system using TFBG and CCD array

    Get PDF
An 800nm band fiber Bragg grating sensing interrogation system using TFBG as the core wavelength division component is presented. A charge coupled device (CCD) linear array is put on the focal plane of the lens to detect the light. TFBG is used to tap light out of the fiber core to fiber cladding. The sensing wavelength is 795 to 830nm, with accuracy of 20pm and scan speed 100Hz. Using FBG sensor, we achieve the temperature sensitivity as 1.8°C and strain sensitivity as 18με

Identify submitochondria and subchloroplast locations with pseudo amino acid composition: Approach from the strategy of discrete wavelet transform feature extraction

AbstractIt is very challenging and complicated to predict protein locations at the sub-subcellular level. The key to enhancing the prediction quality for protein sub-subcellular locations is to grasp the core features of a protein that can discriminate among proteins with different subcompartment locations. In this study, a different formulation of pseudoamino acid composition by the approach of discrete wavelet transform feature extraction was developed to predict submitochondria and subchloroplast locations. As a result of jackknife cross-validation, with our method, it can efficiently distinguish mitochondrial proteins from chloroplast proteins with total accuracy of 98.8% and obtained a promising total accuracy of 93.38% for predicting submitochondria locations. Especially the predictive accuracy for mitochondrial outer membrane and chloroplast thylakoid lumen were 82.93% and 82.22%, respectively, showing an improvement of 4.88% and 27.22% when other existing methods were compared. The results indicated that the proposed method might be employed as a useful assistant technique for identifying sub-subcellular locations. We have implemented our algorithm as an online service called SubIdent (http://bioinfo.ncu.edu.cn/services.aspx)

Suppression of hepatic natural killer activity by liver metastasis of cancer and restoration of killer activity by oral administration of a Basidomycetes-derived polysaccharide, PSK.

PSK (Krestin) is a protein-bound polysaccharide with antitumor and immunomodulatory activity. In this study, the effects of the oral administration of PSK were investigated on the natural killer (NK) activity of liver-associated lymphocytes and their subfractions separated by density gradient centrifugation, in WKAH rats with liver metastasis of KDA hepatoma. PSK was administered orally, at a dose of 500 mg/kg once a day for 3 weeks. The NK activity of nonparenchymal liver cells (NPLC) and their subfractions, including large granular lymphocytes (LGL), was markedly augmented by this treatment. The effects of oral PSK were also examined in CDF1 mice with liver metastases of Colon 26 adenocarcinoma; the survival of tumor-bearing mice was prolonged and both metastatic foci and liver weight were decreased. These results suggest that PSK may be effective for the suppression of liver metastasis through activation of liver-associated NK cells.</p
