Being in-between Brasilian and European. Questions concerning intercultural education – case study research
Artykuł zawiera analizę i interpretację indywidualnych przeżyć, doświadczeń, poglądów, wartości
przedstawiciela innej kultury, będącego w trakcie kształtowania własnej tożsamości. Dobór
przypadku był celowy, zorientowany na uzyskanie informacji. Metodą badawczą było jakościowe
studium przypadku. Zastosowano techniki badawcze: wywiad narracyjny (przeprowadzono
Raport przedstawia znaczenie poznawcze i praktyczne badanego
przypadku. W tekście znajduje się odniesienie do kategorii tożsamości: Skarga, 1997; Borowik,

value system of a man (the representative of another culture) who is on his way to shape his
own identity. The research method that enabled reaching the aim was the qualitative research
study in which four research techniques were applied, i.e. a narrative interview (the analysis
oriented on the meaning of coding), a scale researching ethnical identity (Phinney, 1992),
a range of hardships experienced in an alien culture (Furnham, Bohner, 1986). The selection
of the case was determined by a wish to gain information. The results concern the dimensions
of multidimensional identity tested with 20 conceptual categories, as well as the codes and
interpretation of the meanings of broadcast dimensions of the identity of the narrator. The
report presents the cognitive and practical significance of the case. The text makes references

Intercultural competences in students of nursing in level II studies – a diagnosis
Wstęp. Artykuł zawiera próbę diagnozy komponentów kompetencji międzykulturowych studentów
kierunku pielęgniarstwo, studiów II stop.
Materiał i metody. Zastosowano metodę sondażu diagnostycznego, technikę ankiety. Dobór próby
był celowy: po 100% studentów I i II r. studiów II stopnia kierunku pielęgniarstwo, Collegium
Mazovia Innowacyjnej Szkoły Wyższej Siedlcach.
Wyniki.
U ponad 50% badanych
wiedza i doświadczenia kreują wyobrażenia o ludziach z innych kręgów kulturowych. Brak
wiedzy o innej kulturze utrudnia relacje z chorym. Nieliczni znają model opieki transkulturowej.
Kontakt z osobą z obcych kręgów kulturowych wzmógł otwartość, zrozumienie. Wyniki badań
porównano do badań: Ogórek-Tęczy, Kamińskiej, Matusiak, Skupnik, 2011; Zdziebło i wsp., 2014;
Majdy, Zalewskiej-Puchały, 2011.
Wnioski.
Introduction. The aim of the article is diagnosing components of intercultural competences in
students of nursing in graduate studies.
Material and methods. Method – a diagnostic survey. The sampling involved 100% of graduate
students of 1st and 2nd year, The Nursing Collegium Mazovia Innovative University, Siedlce
Results. Students define culture as values, beliefs, norms guiding human thinking and activity.
More than half indicate that the image of different culture is taken from ones’ learning process
and own experience. Lack of knowledge is a factor that hinders relationships between a nurse
and the sick person. Care has been defined as understanding and support, whereas empathy as
understanding through the prism of culture and values. Few people use the model of transcultural
nursing. Contact with a person from a different cultural background provides them with openness
and understanding. The results were compared with the findings of the research conducted by
Cucumber-Rainbow, Kaminska, Matusiak, Skupnik, 2011; Zdziebło et al., 2014a, 2014b; Majda,
Zalewska-Puchała, 2011.
Conclusions. The study confirmed the hypothesis about intercultural competencies in students
of nursing, but cultural knowledge, recognition of cultural differences, knowledge of language are
only some competences that can provide transcultural care
Czynniki skłaniające do wyboru produktu spożywczego o właściwościach
The characteristics of the selection factors for a healthy food product were determined
by a qualitative research. Among the factors of satisfaction with nutrition
is a balanced and varied diet. It affects the well-being and healthy appearance. Satisfaction with consumption of certain product groups was related to consumption
of vegetables and fruit and the context defined by the respondents as self-prepared
meals, eaten at home, with the family, friends or acquaintances. According to the
study, the health benefits of buying decisions made by clients are important for over
half of the surveyed population, who said that the health qualities of the product is
important to them or rather important.
Analysis of the content of bioactive compounds in selected flours and enriched extruded corn products
The aim of this study was to identify the phenolic compounds in the amaranth, pumpkin and Jerusalem artichoke and compare the content of phenolic compounds and carotenoids, as well as antioxidant capacity in flours and extruded corn snacks enriched with different additives. The addition of 10% flour from pumpkin tissue, Jerusalem artichoke and amaranth seeds was used during extrusion. Twenty phenolic compounds in amaranth, twenty-six in Jerusalem artichoke and sixteen in pumpkin were determined in the examined samples using the UPLC-PDA-Q/TOF-MS method. The addition of flours to snacks increased phenolics and carotenoids concentration. The highest lutein and β-carotene concentration (262.7 μg/100 g) was reported in snacks with the addition of pumpkin flour, while the highest polyphenolics content (1034.2 mg/100 g) in snacks obtained with Jerusalem artichoke flour. The use of 10% Jerusalem artichoke and amaranth flours in the corn snacks production may significantly increase the content of polyphenolic compounds in newly designed products, while the use of pumpkin flour may increase the content of polyphenols and carotenoids (mainly lutein) simultaneously affecting the antioxidant capacity of the final productVytauto Didžiojo universitetasŽemės ūkio akademij
Decreased CD127 Expression on CD4+ T-Cells and Elevated Frequencies of CD4+CD25+CD127− T-Cells in Children with Long-Lasting Type 1 Diabetes
Pathobiology of type 1 diabetes (T1D) is predominantly associated with T-cell-related actions. Homeostasis of majority of T-cells is critically dependent on signals mediated by CD127 (interleukin-7 receptor, IL-7R). In contrast, regulatory T-cells express very little CD127 and thereby may be delineated by CD4+CD25+CD127− phenotype. Here we aimed to analyze CD127 expression on CD4+ and CD8+ T-cells and enumerate CD4+CD25+CD127− T-cells in long-lasting T1D. T-cells were analyzed by flow cytometry and immunologic data were correlated with vascular, metabolic, and inflammatory parameters. We demonstrated significantly decreased CD127 levels on CD4+, but not CD8+, T cells in T1D pediatric patients. Interestingly, frequencies of CD4+CD25+CD127− T-cells were significantly enhanced in T1D children and correlated well with frequencies of CD34+CD144+ endothelial progenitor cells and CD4+CD25− T-cells. Levels of CD127 on both CD4+ and CD8+ T-cells in T1D patients were not correlated to each other or HbA1C. Interestingly, however, CD127 levels on CD4+ T-cells were significantly correlated to frequencies of CD4+CD25+CD127− T-cells, whereas CD127 levels on CD8+ T-cells were significantly correlated to concentrations of VEGF and triglycerides. Our data indicate that CD127 expression is differentially modulated on CD4+ and CD8+ T-cells in the course of T1D. Moreover, we demonstrated that, in contrast to recent-onset T1D, long-lasting T1D is associated with enhancement of T-cells with regulatory phenotype
