Land cover change analysis in the state of California using NLCD data

    Get PDF
Land cover change is critical to be monitored as land cover change has significant impacts on flooding, ground water recharge, and urban air temperature. In this paper, key findings from a land cover change analysis study performed in the State of California are presented. National Land Cover Database (NLCD) data from the Multi-Resolution Land Characteristics Consortium (MRLC) was used for this study. Time series of NLCD data during the time period of 2001 through 2016 was used for the analysis. NLCD data processing was done in ArcMap 10.6.1. This paper includes the methodology in detail, and the results of the analysis. Results of the study indicate a significant increase in impervious surfaces, and a significant decrease in forest land cover

Fibrolipomatous hamartoma of nerve is a tumor-like lipomatous process principally involving affecting young persons. The median nerve is most commonly affectedinvolved. The lesion is characterized by a soft slowly growing mass, surrounding and infiltrating major nerves and their branches. It may cause symptoms of compression neuropathy and is associated with macrodactyly in one third of cases. Here, we present a case of Fibrolipomatous hamartoma of nerve in the wrist of a young man arising from median nerve. Debulking of the tumour was performed

Land Surface Temperature plays a critical role in the land surface-atmosphere exchange processes. In this study, the impacts of land cover changes on land Surface Temperature in bay area, California was analyzed. The key findings of the land cover change impacts study are presented. National Land Cover Database (NLCD) data and Landsat Land Surface Temperature data were used for this study. The time period of analysis is 2001 through 2020. The results of the study indicated that with the increase in built land cover, the land surface temperature in bay area, California exhibited a significant increase

Association of serum neutrophil gelatinase associated lipocalin (NGAL) levels with preeclampsia

Background: Preeclampsia is a systemic disorder that affects multiple organs and is characterized by the new onset of hypertension and proteinuria or end-organ dysfunction or both in the second half of pregnancy. NGAL is a 25-KDa protein of the lipocalin family and is considered to be a novel biomarker for ischemic injury. The objective of this study is to compare the levels of serum NGAL in preeclamptic patients and gestational age matched normotensive controls. Methods: The study design is case control study in which pregnant women with preeclampsia (n=40) are selected as cases. Cases were selected from pregnant women attending OG-OPD and IP satisfying the inclusion criteria and not coming under exclusion criteria. 0.5ml of blood was collected in vacutainers and was centrifuged at 3500rpm for 10 minutes. The serum thus separated was aliquoted into smaller plain containers and stored at -20 degree Celsius for analysis. The urine sample was also collected. Controls were also selected from the OP patients. Results: In present study, the serum NGAL ranged from 40-900ng/ml in cases and from 110-795ng/ml in controls. There is no difference in NGAL between cases and control. The correlation coefficients between the NGAL levels and other parameters like maternal age, gestational age, systolic Blood pressure, diastolic Blood pressure, uric acid levels, urine PCR are also not statistically significant. Conclusions: Serum NGAL levels are not significantly elevated in patients with preeclampsia when compared with the normotensive controls and also there is no significant correlation between serum NGAL levels and other assessed parameters

Visualizing Data in Traditional Text Layouts with Application to Classical Latin

Scholarship in linguistics, library science, journalism, and classics has long de- pended upon reading and analyzing text in traditional printed formats. Increasingly, manual and automatic text processing techniques are being used to transform text into structured data that can be queried and visualized. Such data often consists of spreadsheets or databases that contain information extracted from the text, such as document metadata, entities and relationships, sentiment, or grammatical structure. Many techniques have been developed to visualize text as structured data. A few display that data in a recognizably traditional format. Representing data within its own text provides a common visual context that allows for more efficient reading and effective interpretation. In this thesis, we describe a design framework and a reference implementation for visually representing information in traditional text layouts. The framework provides ways to visually represent information about text directly in the text itself, including text styling, highlighting, decoration, and embedding of entire data views. By integrating data graphics into text, readers can see and interact with both the text and its associated data in a unified visual context. The implementation builds upon the declarative language in Improvise to support interactive queries including visual encoding, filtering, and sorting of data for display in the text. We present several application examples and use them to assess the expressiveness, effectiveness, and performance of the framework for navigation and query features desirable to scholars of classical Latin

Five factors contributing to severe rhabdomyolysis in a 21 yr old IV drug abuser: a case report

    Get PDF
Rhabdomyolysis is a potentially life-threatening condition resulting from the release of large quantities of myocyte breakdown products into the circulation, following injury to striated muscles. There are several causes of rhabdomyolysis - traumatic and non-traumatic. We present a 21-year-old male intravenous drug abuser, who was referred to us with fever, altered sensorium and seizures. He developed severe rhabdomyolysis following a mixed meningeal infection by Streptococcus pneumoniae and Mycobacterium tuberculosis. This patient’s examination and investigation suggested a combination of factors leading to the severe rhabdomyolysis which proved fatal. The patient’s creatine phosphokinase was elevated to 167,000 U/L, following hyperpyrexia, seizures, meningitis (pneumococcal and tuberculous), pentazocine and alcohol abuse. The increase in mortality rate with the onset of rhabdomyolysis warrants immediate cessation of the insult and aggressive management

Non-Platinum metal oxide nano particles and nano clusters as oxygen reduction catalysts in fuel cells.

    Get PDF
An attempt has been made in this study to prepare the oxygen electrodes containing low-scale particles of copper, nickel, cobalt and iron oxides and evaluate their catalytic activity for the oxygen reduction. 1:1 stoichiometric oxides (Copper and Nickel) and higher stoichimetric oxides (Cobalt and Iron) have been synthesized and their catalytic properties have been analyzed by electrochemical methods. The conductivity of the fabricated electrodes showed steady values even with change in temperature from the ambient (30 ± 20 C) to 700 C

CLUSTERING OF NETWORK DEVICES TO FORM A VIRTUAL NETWORK SERVICE CONTROL PLANE

    Get PDF
Enterprise networks often consist of multiple sites that often operate in a hierarchical manner for routing traffic among the sites, as well as to/from external networks. With the deployment of enterprise or hybrid cloud services within enterprise networks, such as cloud productivity services, communication services, etc. many policies, security, and/or performance requirements have to be met that often depend on the knowledge of sources and destinations, including their user/group information, security information, credentials, etc. However, it is often difficult to aggregate such information to scale in an end-to-end manner, similar to routing prefixes, as it can be difficult to store such information within the hardware resources of a network. In order to address such issues, techniques are presented herein through which a clustering capability can be enabled for existing and/or newly deployed physical and/or virtual networking devices in order to form a virtual network service control plane that can facilitate scaling for the deployment of hybrid cloud services. As described in further detail herein, networking protocols can be utilized to provide intent and guidance regarding the replication capability of databases in distributed operating system infrastructure within a set of networking devices such that the cluster forms the virtual network service control plane
