La Déclaration des Droits de l'Homme de 1789 aux Pays-Bas

One intends to give a contribution to Jacques Godechot's enquiry on international welcome to the french Proclamation. Netherlands offer a specially interesting position, since they are just getting out of a revolutionary episode when this question was not ignored, under the light of the previous american one especially. On the other hand the importance of netherlandish press, which was international, explains that the french texts, more or less distorted, have known an early publicity, in spite of a contrary reactionary environment.On se propose d'apporter une contribution à l'enquête lancée par Jacques Godechot sur la réception internationale de la déclaration française des droits de l'Homme. Les Pays-Bas offrent un site particulièrement intéressant puisqu'ils sortent à peine d'un épisode révolutionnaire où cette problématique n'a pas été ignorée, à la lumière notamment du précédent américain. Par ailleurs l'importance de la presse néerlandaise, à vocation internationale, explique que les textes français, plus ou moins déformés, aient connu une publicité précoce aux Pays-Bas, malgré un climat de réaction défavorable.Popkin Jeremy D. Marat en Hollande. Un témoignage inconnu

Jeremy Popkin : Marat in Holland. Very little documentary evidence exists concerning the future revolutionary journalist Jean-Paul Marat's visit to the Netherlands in 1775. A previously unknown letter of the Amsterdam Jewish banker and man of letters Isaac de Pinto shows that Marat met him and the leading Dutch propagandist for the Prince of Orange, Michael Rijklof van Goens, during his Dutch trip. This probably explains why Marat, unlike most of the other French revolutionaries, sided with the Orangists against the Dutch Patriots in later years.Popkin Jeremy D. Marat en Hollande.
