Low-density series expansions for directed percolation III. Some two-dimensional lattices
We use very efficient algorithms to calculate low-density series for bond and
site percolation on the directed triangular, honeycomb, kagom\'e, and
lattices. Analysis of the series yields accurate estimates of the critical
point and various critical exponents. The exponent estimates differ only
in the digit, thus providing strong numerical evidence for the
expected universality of the critical exponents for directed percolation
problems. In addition we also study the non-physical singularities of the

Priorities for sustainable turfgrass management: a research and industry perspective
This paper provides a brief review and assessment of the key environmental, regulatory and technical issues facing the turfgrass sector with specific reference to the European context. It considers the range of externalities or ‘drivers for change' facing the industry, and the challenges and opportunities available for promoting and achieving more sustainable turfgrass management within the sports, landscape and amenity sectors. The analysis confirms that there are a number of key areas where a concerted research and industrial effort is required. These include responding to the pressures from government demands for greater environmental regulation, the increasing pressure on natural resources (notably water, energy and land), the emerging role of turf management in supporting ecosystem services and enhancing biodiversity, the continued need to promote integrated pest management, and the looming challenges posed by a changing climate, and urgent need to adapt. Whilst many of these externalities appear to be risks to the sports turf industry, there will also be significant opportunities, for those where the labour, energy and agronomic costs are minimized and where the drive to adopt a multifunctional approach to sportsturf management is embraced

How Well Does "Core" CPI Capture Permanent Price Changes?
We decompose core CPI and the food and energy CPI measures into permanent and transitory components using a correlated unobserved components model, to examine the behavior of core CPI when subject to shocks and to examine the claim that core CPI captures the persistent part of headline CPI. We find that the permanent component of core CPI is more volatile than core CPI, or that the permanent and transitory components are highly correlated. We find that the excluded food and energy components have important permanent components, and that core CPI has an important transitory component. We examine impulse response functions and find that headline CPI inflation responds more sharply to shocks than core CPI inflation, and after the first year the impact of shocks on headline inflation is less than the impact on core inflation.unobserved components, CPI, price indices, inflation, core
Arrays of Josephson junctions in an environment with vanishing impedance
The Hamiltonian operator for an unbiased array of Josephson junctions with
gate voltages is constructed when only Cooper pair tunnelling and charging
effects are taken into account. The supercurrent through the system and the
pumped current induced by changing the gate voltages periodically are discussed
with an emphasis on the inaccuracies in the Cooper pair pumping.
Renormalisation of the Hamiltonian operator is used in order to reliably
parametrise the effects due to inhomogeneity in the array and non-ideal gating
sequences. The relatively simple model yields an explicit, testable prediction

A Simple Algorithm for Local Conversion of Pure States
We describe an algorithm for converting one bipartite quantum state into
another using only local operations and classical communication, which is much
simpler than the original algorithm given by Nielsen [Phys. Rev. Lett. 83, 436
(1999)]. Our algorithm uses only a single measurement by one of the parties,
followed by local unitary operations which are permutations in the local

The Infrared Surface Brightness Fluctuation Distances to the Hydra and Coma Clusters
We present IR surface brightness fluctuation (SBF) distance measurements to
NGC 4889 in the Coma cluster and to NGC 3309 and NGC 3311 in the Hydra cluster.
We explicitly corrected for the contributions to the fluctuations from globular
clusters, background galaxies, and residual background variance. We measured a
distance of 85 +/- 10 Mpc to NGC 4889 and a distance of 46 +/- 5 Mpc to the
Hydra cluster. Adopting recession velocities of 7186 +/- 428 km/s for Coma and
4054 +/- 296 km/s for Hydra gives a mean Hubble constant of H_0 = 87 +/- 11
km/s/Mpc. Corrections for residual variances were a significant fraction of the
SBF signal measured, and, if underestimated, would bias our measurement towards
smaller distances and larger values of H_0. Both NICMOS on the Hubble Space
Telescope and large-aperture ground-based telescopes with new IR detectors will
