A new species of the genus Panstrongylus from French Guiana (Heteroptera; Reduviidae; Triatominae)

    Get PDF
Panstrongylus mitarakaensis n. sp. is described from French Guiana. Morphological characters are provided. This small species, less robust than other Panstrongylus species, shows a pronotum shape similar to species of the "P. lignarius complex". However, others characters such as the postocular part of head, the obsolete tubercle on the anterior lobe of pronotum, and the lateral process on the antenniferous tubercle distinguish it from the species in that complex. The taxonomic key of the genus Panstrongylus is actualized

A SAW wireless sensor network platform for industrial predictive maintenance

Predictive Maintenance (PM) predicts the system health, based on the current condition, and defines the needed maintenance activities accordingly. This way, the system is only taken out of service if direct evidence exists that deterioration has actually taken place. This increases maintenance efficiency and productivity on one hand, and decreases maintenance support costs and logistics footprints on the other. We propose a system based on wireless sensor network to monitor industrial systems in order to prevent faults and damages. The sensors use the Surface Acoustic Wave (SAW) technology with an architecture composed of an electronic interrogation device and a passive sensor (without energy at the transducer) which is powered by the radio frequency transmitted by the interrogation unit. The radio frequency link transfers energy to the sensor to perform its measurement and to transmit the result to the interrogation unit - or in a description closer to the implemented, characterize the cooperative target cross-section characteristics to recover the physical quantity defining the transducer material properties. We use this sensing architecture to measure the temperature of industrial machine components and we evaluate the robustness of the method. This technology can be applied to other physical parameters to be monitored. Captured information is transmitted to the base station through multi-hop communications. We also treat interferences involved in both interrogator to interrogator and sensor to interrogator communications

The triatominae species of French Guiana (Heteroptera: Reduviidae)

An annotated list of the triatomine species present in French Guiana is given. It is based on field collections carried out between 1993-2008, museum collections and a literature review. Fourteen species, representing four tribes and six genera, are now known in this country and are illustrated (habitus). Three species are recorded from French Guiana for the first time: Cavernicola pilosa, Microtriatoma trinidadensis and Rhodnius paraensis. The two most common and widely distributed species are Panstrongylus geniculatus and Rhodnius pictipes. The presence of two species (Panstrongylus megistus and Triatoma maculata) could be fortuitous and requires confirmation. Also, the presence of Rhodnius prolixus is doubtful; while it was previously recorded in French Guiana, it was probably mistaken for R. robustus. A key for French Guiana's triatomine species is provided

Occurrence of the tropical bedbug Cimex hemipterus (Fabricius, 1803), in France (Hemiptera, Heteroptera, Cimicidae). Cimex hemipterus (Fabricius, 1803), the tropical and subtropical bedbug, is recorded for the first time from France in the city of Marseille (Bouches-du-RhĂŽne), already strongly infested with C. lectularius Linnaeus, 1758. Two small populations, apparently well established, have been discovered in 2015 and 2017 in two places of the city. Habitus is given for both species, as well as some diagnostic characters distinguishing C. hemipterus from C. lectularius. France is plagued after Russia and Sweden.
