Measuring Poverty and Inequality in a Computable General Equilibrium Model
This paper aims to evaluate the relevance of different types of macroeconomic general equilibrium modelling for measuring the impact of economic policy shocks on the incidence of poverty and on the distribution of income. In the literature three approaches are identified. The first is based on a traditional form of the CGEM which specifies a large number of households. In this case, we can only observe inter group income inequalities. The next uses survey data to estimate the distribution function and average variations by group, which allows one to estimate the evolution of poverty. The third approach, which we present in detail, includes individual data directly in the general equilibrium model according to the principles of micro simulations. This treatment provides a more reliable picture of income distribution but is also more complex. Given this, we develop, within a co-ordinated statistical framework representing an archetypal economy, the three types of model described above. More precisely, this exercise allows us to break down the contribution of average income variations, of the poverty line, and of income distribution in the evolution of the main poverty indicators. The results obtained show the importance of intra group information and therefore the relevance of micro simulation exercises.General Equilibrium Models, Micro Simulation, Poverty, Inequality
Effects of Immigration on Labour Markets and Government Budgets - An Overview
The paper provides an overview on recent trends of immigration in OECD countries and on the possible effects of immigration on labour markets and government budgets. It also discusses migration policies from an economic point of view. By bringing together a bulk of international literature on labour market and fiscal effects of migration in a systematic way it provides a framework for assessing the economic effects of migration and improving the knowledge base for migration policies.migration, labour markets, fiscal effects of migration
L'enquête SET97, réalisée à Antananarivo en 1997, est, comme l'enquête 1-2-3 sur le secteur informel, une enquête en plusieurs phases associée à l'enquête sur l'emploi. Elle a été élaborée dans le but d'analyser la santé et l'éducation, et d'étudier les transferts, monétaires et non monétaires, entre les ménages. Cet article présente les principes de l'articulation entre les différentes phases d'enquête et le tirage de l'échantillon. Il analyse le questionnaire utilisé en référence aux objectifs de l'enquête et à la méthodologie retenue. Enfin, un bref examen des principaux résultats tirés de l'exploitation des données fournit un aperçu des vastes possibilités d'analyse.Enquêtes; Éducation; Santé; Pauvreté; Coût et niveau de la vie; Ménages; Madagascar;
Tyrosine-based rivastigmine-loaded organogels in the treatmant of Alzheimer's disease
Faculté de PharmacieOrganogels can be prepared by immobilizing an organic phase into a threedimensional
network coming from the self-assembly of a low molecular weight gelator molecule. In this work, an injectable subcutaneous organogel system based on safflower oil and a modified-tyrosine organogelator was evaluated in vivo for the delivery of rivastigmine, an acetylcholinesterase (AChE) inhibitor used in the treatment of Alzheimer’s disease. Different implant formulations were injected and the plasmatic drug concentration was assayed for up to 35 days. In parallel, the inhibition of AChE in different brain sections and the biocompatibility of the implants were monitored. The pharmacokinetic profiles were found to be influenced by the gel composition, injected dose and volume of the implant. The sustained delivery of rivastigmine was accompanied by a significant prolonged inhibition of AChE in the hippocampus, a brain structure involved in memory. The implant induced only a minimal to mild chronic inflammation and fibrosis, which was comparable to poly(D,L-lactide-co-glycolide) in situ-forming implants. These findings suggest that tyrosine-based organogels could represent an alternative approach to current
formulations for the sustained delivery of cholinesterase inhibitors.IRS
Localized state and charge transfer in nitrogen-doped graphene
Nitrogen-doped epitaxial graphene grown on SiC(000?1) was prepared by
exposing the surface to an atomic nitrogen flux. Using Scanning Tunneling
Microscopy (STM) and Spectroscopy (STS), supported by Density Functional Theory
(DFT) calculations, the simple substitution of carbon by nitrogen atoms has
been identified as the most common doping configuration. High-resolution images
reveal a reduction of local charge density on top of the nitrogen atoms,
indicating a charge transfer to the neighboring carbon atoms. For the first
time, local STS spectra clearly evidenced the energy levels associated with the
chemical doping by nitrogen, localized in the conduction band. Various other
nitrogen-related defects have been observed. The bias dependence of their
topographic signatures demonstrates the presence of structural configurations
more complex than substitution as well as hole-doping.Comment: 5 pages, accepted in PR
