    Semiotics of Roland Barthes in Symbols Systems of Javanese Wedding Ceremony

    This study is aimed to explain the interpretation of symbols systems in Javanese wedding ceremony. The symbol patterns can be categorized into leaves symbols, vegetable symbols, flowers symbols, food and drinks symbols, Javanese traditional instrumental music (gending-gending), and thread of marriage processions. The data of this study were collected by in-depth interview techniques, participant observation, and documentation. The data were analyzed with the Miles and Huberman interactive models. Data analysis reveals that substantial meanings of the symbols in Javanese wedding ceremony are of advice, prayers, descriptions, parables, and responsibilities. The first, an advice for a bridge/a bridegroom is to have a well foundation, always to love each other, to become a reassuring spouse, to be considerate and think clearly, to have tender heart, and to respect their parents. The second, prayers are delivered in order that the bride and bridegroom have abundant lawful or halal fortune or wealth, have good offsprings, keep away from life barriers. The third, description means that the bridge looks like a beautiful queen and a bridegroom is associated to a handsome and dashing king. The fourth, a parable of marriage is alike to wade the ocean with big waves and storms. The fifth, a responsibility is due to a husband to make a hay or earn money and a wife to manage it then they work together to obtain the goal of marriage. The connotative meaning is flourished to become a myth that marriage ceremony is equipped with standard of symbols that will build the happy and everlasting marriage

    On Reasoning Nature of Editorial Essay in Indonesian Newspaper

    Reasoning ability is fundamental for college students as well as professionals since it reflects their intellectual quality. This paper is aimed at revealing the reasoning nature in the editorial essays in Indonesian prominent newspapers. The study is qualitatively approached, by employing Content Analysis, in which (i) the types of reason and (ii) the soundness of reasons the editorial essays are objectively, systematically, and generally inferred. The data collection was conducted by documentation technique, by which the researchers selected the online editorial essays in Indonesian prominent newspapers. The study revealed that types of reason found in the essay written by IW (Indonesian Writer) are (a) statement of a means to an end, (b) a statement of cause, (c) statement of judgment based upon knowledge, and (d) statement of condition while the most reasonings practiced by IW in their essays are logically sound

    AbstrakArtikel ini bertujuan untuk mendeskripsikan penggunaan sosiodrama dalam pembelajaran BIPA di Sanggar Kampung Indonesia, Tulungagung yang meliputi pelaksanaan sosiodrama, keterampilan berbahasa, dan nilai-nilai yang diajarkan. Data diperoleh dari kegiatan pembelajaran BIPA dengan menggunakan metode sosiodrama di Sanggar Kampung Indonesia, Tulungagung. Data tersebut dikumpulkan dengan teknik observasi, wawancara, dan dokumentasi. Observasi digunakan untuk mendapatkan data pelaksanaan bermain sosiodrama. Wawancara digunakan untuk mengetatahui keterampilan dan nilai-nilai yang diajarkan melalui permainan sosiodrama. Kedua teknik tersebut dilengkapi dengan dokumen naskah sosiodrama yang diperankan oleh mahasiswa. Data  dianalisis dengan model interaktif yang diadaptasi dari Miles dan Huberman yang meliputi pengumpulan data, reduksi data, penyajian data, verifikasi, dan simpulan akhir. Hasil analisis data menemukan bahwa dalam pelaksanaan sosiodrama, seluruh karakter diperankan oleh mahasiswa BIPA. Permainan sosiodrama tersebut bertujuan untuk meningkatkan keterampilan berbicara sesuai dengan konteks sosial budaya yang meliputi keterampilan mengungkapkan perasaan suka, tidaksuka, bahagia, sedih, dan kecewa. The data were collected through technique of observation, interview, and documentation.   The data were analyzed by interactive model adopted from Miles and Huberman, consisted of collecting data, reducing data, displaying data, verifying data, and drawing conclusion.     ANALISIS KESALAHAN BERBAHASA TULIS PEBELAJAR BAHASA INDONESIA UNTUK PENUTUR ASING (BIPA) DI SANGGAR KAMPUNG INDONESIA TULUNGAGUNG

    This research is intended to describe the errors in writing text in Bahasa Indonesia made by BIPA (Bahasa Indonesia for Foreign Speakers) learners in Kampung Indonesia Tulungagung which encompass (1) phonological, morphological, syntactical, and semantical errors and (2) the factors causing those errors made by the learners of BIPA.. The data are the learners’ writing in their diary and the final task after the teaching process. Those writing is then analyzed based the linguistic taxonomy which includes the errors in phonology, morphology, syntax, and semantics. The data analysis technique used is flow analysis model. The steps of analysis are (1) collecting data, (3) identifying the errors, (4) grading the errors, (5) analyzing the errors, (6) correcting the errors, and (7) discussing the errors. The findings of this research shows that (a) the language errors in phonology is 43.2%, (b) the language errors in morphology is 25.4%, (c) the language errors in syntax is 24.1%, (d) the language errors in semantic is 7.3%.Those language errors are caused by two factors: the internal and external factors. The internal factors include (a) low motivation, (b) different potential, (c) interference, and (d) the closeness of language group or family. The external factors include (a) incomplete teaching and learning process, and (b) the short period of teaching process

    Some studies show that Javanese language is now rarely used by Javanese people in their daily communication. Some Javanese prefer to communicate with national language and foreign language to Javanese language. As a result, only a few Javanese people who able to speak Javanese well. Therefore, to maintain Javanese Language IAIN Tulungagung conducts a Javanese Langauage course named Kepewaraan. This stusdy investigates Javanese Language maintenance through teaching Kepewaraan at IAIN Tulungagung. This study aims at describing the purpose, materials, methods, and evaluations of teaching Kepewaraan at IAIN Tulungagung. This study is a qualitative with sociolinguistics approach. The data were collected through interview, observasion, and documentation.  Data analysis reveals (1) the purpose of teaching Kepewaraan is to maintain Javanese language by digging, learning, and improving Javanese Language, (2) materials of Kepewaraan cover Javanese language and literature, speech levels, and rapping speech, (3) teaching methods implemented were immersion and drill, and (4) teaching evaluasions used were written and oral tests

    Analysis of The Use of Slang Variation by Teenagers in Selokajang Village: A Sociolinguistics Study

    Slang is one of the typical languages ​​formed from Indonesian, but has been modified into a new language and is used when communicating. This study uses a research method that is descriptive qualitative method in the form of data which is then processed into a neat and easy to understand written form. This study aims to describe, validate the phenomenon under study, and to find out the reality of the phenomenon related to the use of slang by the youth of Selokajang Village. Data collection techniques used by researchers are interview techniques and also observation techniques or direct observation. Researchers used verbal data analysis techniques in the form of speeches descriptions. Data in the form of speech is based on the context of the situation, social, and cultural. Based on the results of the analysis through the interview method with the youth of Selokajang Village, it was found that there were 20 variations of slang used by the youth of Selokajang Village in daily communication. Language variation is one approach or study of sociolinguistics, language variation is often also called language variety. One form of language variation that occurs in people's speech acts is slang or also called millennial slang.Bahasa slang merupakan salah satu bahasa khas yang terbentuk dari bahasa Indonesia, namun telah dimodifikasi menjadi bahasa baru dan dipakai ketika berkomunikasi. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode penelitian yaitu metode deskriptif kualitatif berupa data yang kemudian diolah menjadi bentuk tulisan yang rapi dan mudah dipahami. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mendeskripsikan,  memvalidasi fenomena yang diteliti, dan untuk mengetahui realitas fenomena terkait penggunaan bahasa slang oleh pemuda Desa Selokajang. Teknik pengumpulan data yang digunakan peneliti adalah teknik wawancara dan juga teknik observasi atau observasi langsung. Peneliti menggunakan teknik analisis data verbal berupa pidato atau deskripsi. Data berupa tuturan didasarkan pada konteks situasi, sosial, dan budaya. Berdasarkan hasil analisis melalui metode wawancara dengan pemuda Desa Selokajang ditemukan bahwa terdapat 20 variasi bahasa slang yang digunakan oleh pemuda Desa Selokajang dalam komunikasi sehari-hari. Variasi bahasa merupakan salah satu pendekatan atau kajian sosiolinguistik, variasi bahasa sering juga disebut ragam bahasa. Salah satu bentuk variasi bahasa yang terjadi pada tindak tutur masyarakat adalah bahasa slang atau disebut juga bahasa slang milenial

    Pragmatics Approach in Teaching “Maharah Kalam” at Pondok Modern Darul Hikmah Tulungagung

    Speaking proficiency, maharah kalam, is one of the Arabic teaching goals at Pondok Modern Darul Hikmah Tulungagung. Speaking skill will be better mastered by the understanding of language usage in the daily communication context. Therefore, Pragmatics approach is fruitfully employed in teaching speaking skill. This study aims at describing the Pragmatics approach in teaching speaking skill at Pondok Modern Darul Hikmah Tulungagung. This study belonged to queasy experiment. Data were collected through doing participation-observation, interview, and test. The result of data analysis revealed that Pragmatics approach in teaching Arabic speaking skill in Pondok Modern Darul Hikmah was reflected in the instructional design. This approach was implemented through three programs, namely dialogue (al-hiwar), pattern practice (tathbiq al-namudzaj), and oral practice (tarkib al-syafawi). In addition, there was a significant difference result of pre-test and post-test. It was assumed as an effect of applying pragmatics approach in teaching maharah kalam at Pondok Modern Darul Hikmah Tulungagung

    Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mendeskripsikan penanaman dinamika literasi pada era 4.0 di Tulungagung, yang meliputi pelaksaan penanaman dinamika literasi, program yang dilakukan, perubahan, serta tantangan literasi pada era 4.0. Data penelitian ini berupa kegiatan literasi dan wawancara dengan pegiat literasi di Kecamatan Kedungwaru Tulungagung. Data dikumpulkan dengan teknik observasi, wawancara, dan dokumentasi. Observasi digunakan untuk mendapatkan data tentang pelaksaan penanaman dinamika literasi di era 4.0. Wawancara digunakan untuk mengetahui proses awal digagasnya dinamika literasi. Sedangkan dokumentasi digunakan untuk mengetahui kegiatan yang dilakukan untuk menanamkan dinamika literasi. Berdasarkan hasil analisis data ditemukan pelaksanaan penanaman dinamika literasi pada era 4.0 di Kecamatan Kedungwaru Tulungagung berawal dari niat mengangkat potensi individu untuk mau berliterasi dan memberdayakan potensi desa untuk kegiatan literasi. Peran dukungan dari masyarakat dan pemerintah terbukti sangat menunjang. Sebagai tantangan literasi 4.0, individu harus mampu berliterasi dengan teknologi secara cerdas.
